hmm. Lets take the most highly visible, highly detailed over-the -top, brightest and garish place in the USA, or maybe in the world for that matter, Las Vegas and model it.

Bad idea from the start. Seems like an awful lot of work just to have a place to learn the traffic pattern and gunnery work.

I doubt highly that we will ever see Nevada with Edge. Now, take that effort and develop Edge with Afghanistan, and we would be dancin'.

Bad idea from the start. Seems like an awful lot of work just to have a place to learn the traffic pattern and gunnery work.

The map includes one of the main areas where gunnery training and exercises take place in real life.

Las Vegas never was the "intended area", said gunnery ranges and training facilities were. Las Vegas just happened to be in the neighborhood.

I doubt highly that we will ever see Nevada with Edge. Now, take that effort and develop Edge with Afghanistan, and we would be dancin'.

Why?

As has been stated previously by Matt, the holdup is not Nevada. The holdup is Edge, which is still being developed.

Also, you seem to not quite understand how this process works - what does "develop Edge with Afghanistan" mean? Edge isn't developed "with" a given map - the map runs on Edge. (Or to be more precise, Edge renders the map.) Having Afghanistan instead of Nevada would leave us at exactly the same point; with Edge still being in development.

If it is so that Nevada is more or less complete and there are separate people working on the map and engine it could mean that some capacities at ED have become available and somebody is already cooking up another map - possibly Afghanistan. Purely speculative of course... and there is already somebody from the community working on that specifically / waiting for ED to release tools.

There are so many places I'd want more than Afghanistan. A-stan is nice for realistic depiction of a current conflict, but in the end it is largely just a bit of mud-moving, 6-hour stations and boredom for fighter pilots. :P

So you are saying that Nevada is done, all of the, buildings, massive city blocks, casinos, lights, etc in Las Vegas proper, and the Nellis Ranges as well?

And when EDGE is done ED can just plug in all of that stuff and be ready to roll?

If so then, fair enough. If all of this stuff has to be created still, wouldn't it make more sense to spend those man hours of design and coding be better spent creating and populating a real word conflict or potential conflict area?

And I can think of so many places other than Nellis..

One's in.. Pickle... One's off.. Switches safe. Good hit One. Your BDU was right on the money.. Now what.. Ida know, lets put on some 38s and go bomb the Luxor. :)

Nevada map 2012

Hi guys

Its been a while since I checked in last. Has there been any news (since May) re. the Nevada map that we bought as part of the A-10 beta? The FAQ still says it will be released in 2012. Just curious :-)

Last update as quoted below post #1296 of this thread:

As has been stated several times before, the map itself is almost done. The long delay is due to development of a new rendering engine that is capable of rending the this map and its very high level of detail at acceptable frame rates. Developing a new rendering engine is a very long and complex matter. There have also been some delays due to some changes in staffing and the team having to work on some other projects in parallel. When there is new news, there will be an announcement. At this time, given the work on the engine, it is not even possible to run the map to take screen shots.
