wess24m Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 wess24m, as GGTharos said, ED are well aware of the issues and some of the ED team fly on last *weekend's* massive multiplayer Fly-In to see first hand the problems we were experiencing. While we had some flying with us already it was clear that within a very short time of us logging the first problems there were some ED guys coming in to see - that is, dropping other stuff and working on their *weekend* to help. Yeah, while we all get frustrated with the CTDs (eg. we all complain sometime, including me, and hope for reduced defects in the future) I have to say I was impressed by the team's commitment to sort it out. I've said this elsewhere but I'll say repeat it again here. The first massive multiplayer Fly-In had numerous server crashes. We gave the logs to ED and they did such a great fix-job that we only had very few server crashes during the second Fly-In event (two servers, 48 hours, with 50-60 players between the servers). It would nice for it to be a perfect record but it was a vast and welcome improvement. From the second Fly-In we obtained a lot of information about client-side issues - which appear at first blush to be mostly related to the large amount of new features (the old features/code seemed mostly ok). Again we've tried to supply useful information, and some of the ED team were present to get their own logs as well. So they are not only aware of the issues, they were very active in trying to monitor and diagnose them early. I fully expect additional patches to address these issues and will make the third Fly-In even better (as well as fixing routine single- and multi-player play). Hope that sheds some light on recent CTD work (as seen from 'outside the tent' on the community side). ED are making progress (although sometimes it appears Sisyphean). Thank you for your response, I was on the server as well and was shadowing "wags" for awhile :)
EtherealN Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I wouldn't mind flying them but I would guess they would do something someone hasn't done in a long time. wess24m Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 LOL, I love it, so how would the mission system work? I mean would bugs killed be counted as units or as a whole? I live in a area where these things are like fireflys doing the crop dusting season, great power to weight ratio.
104th_Crunch Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Most people think DCS is stuck in a particular era. This isn't the case. It's all about any vehicle, any time. Cool! Then sign me up for MiG-15 vs F-86 and MiG-21 vs F5! :)
MadTommy Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Most people think DCS is stuck in a particular era. This isn't the case. It's all about any vehicle, any time. DCS has only produced the Ka-50 & A-10c so of course people think DCS is set in a certain time frame. The world/environment DCS is set in is from the same period. (not to mention the plethora of aircraft from Lockon/FC/FC2 all from the same period) If DCS want to make a sim from a different period, great, would love it. Maybe a scifi would fit in with the current DCS model.. maybe an x-wing. :music_whistling: i5-3570K @ 4.5 Ghz, Asus P8Z77-V, 8 GB DDR3, 1.5GB GTX 480 (EVGA, superclocked), SSD, 2 x 1680x1050, x-fi extreme music. Rider1 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Would it be unreasonable to think that the P51 or whatever the Flying Legends may be will have its own standalone game play? It could use the DCS engine and may be able to fly in the modern DCS world, but why limit it it to that? Couldn't a Tiger tank or a Sherman simply be a T80 or BRDM re-skinned with adjusted hit values and mechanics? How hard is it skin new static buildings from the period and create WW2 scenarios and game play on the DCS maps? DCS is pretty good with simulating flying things, and branching into the WW2 warbird game world wouldn't be a bad thing at all, for the consumer or the company...

I'd say at very least you could retain the current modern battlefield and if the p-51 was a option it would be a good FAC and anti-infintry weapon. I still think it would be great at lots of tasks in modern warfair.
Witchking Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 Spectacular news. I only hope they can finally improve the crappy explosion and damage effects from the first Lock On release. Please look at Battlefield 3 for inspiration. I know its wishful thinking...but imagine FC3 with Battlefield 3 engine.....OMG...that would be spectacular. Also..... for FM respects...can ED stop the wheels from sticking to the runway during landing in legacy (Flaming cliffs aircraft...i..e., Su 27, F 15 etc....) aircraft? It totally ruins the satisfaction of landing. Avilator Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 It's called "Flying legends", not "Flying aircraft that is completely unknown to all but aviation afficionados". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piper_PA-48_Enforcer:music_whistling: I know, but this is a much better version of Farmville. ;) :megalol: I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Eihort Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 You know Frogisis mentioned a few pages back "Philidelphia Experiement" type engagements... I wonder what it would take to kill something *that* slow. Also, wouldn't IR missiles be virtually useless? Course you just grab an A-10, throw the pod into A-A mode and kill it with a mav. >_>
GGTharos Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 No, those 1600hp engines run pretty hot. Hotter than a UAV anyway. It would be like using an IR missile vs. a heli - a little hotter than a head-on jet out of AB. MemphisBelle Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Nevada map for free for A-10C beta purchaser(s)?...yeah...wags , I love you. I always was thinking to py additional money on this map. So I can spend that on FC3. Those are great news. If things wont happen cause things are unforseen, so it doesnt matter pretty much. It would be like using an IR missile vs. a heli - a little hotter than a head-on jet out of AB. Hotter than an UAV but definitively not as hot as an heli - turbine engines are like halogen lamps for IR sensors (the best example: M1A2 vs Leopard 2, turbine vs. diesel engine). My car's engine works usually around 90ºC. That's why, thermodinamically wise, 4-stroke engines are more efficient than gas turbines - 2º law of thermodinamic, you know... Regards!
