The A-6 would have had my vote, had it not been omitted.

Mine too. With a well modeled DIANE system it would be a hoot to fly high loft and over the shoulder deliveries. And I'd enjoy challenging the Air Force Warthog pukes to a bomb CEP contest. Anyone have a barrel? Carrier ops, too, of course.

Saw two F4s doing that out of Fallon on an Alpha strike...except the wingie broke into Lead. Lotta smoke, no noise. Not one word after about who or why. Didn't even check the paper to see if they carried anything on it. Another of the surreal, inexplicable, imagines from back then.

For me the F-4 Phantom is the very best option. It would be the perfect counterpart for the upcoming DCS Mig-21.

But it is not only that that it is making it perfect for DCS. It is an air superiority fighter and it is a tactical attack fighter. It has a naval version that would allow us to fly carrier operations.

It is a plane that can carry an incredibly large inventary of diferent weapons.

it is an airplane that has been used by many air forces all around the world so many people can get happy flying its own air force coulours (non fictional).

But most important, there is a HUGE ammount of non classified data about this aircrafts its weapons and systems as well as its performance avalaible.

It is a beautiful aircraft with an impressive service record but that has been unlucly enough to not being properly reproduced by any simulator yet.

Here is a nice link with a lots of info for the F-4 Phantom. Cockpit layouts, and many extras

I think this is the airplane we do really need next

I'd love to see the F-111 or the A-6. There's plenty of information on both available and they're amazing aircraft (in fact, I'd take either of them over their modern counterparts). The problem would probably be that they are very high workload two-seat aircraft.

yes F6 lightning & hawker siddley buccaneer.

another of my fav cold war era aircraft i frequently witnessed as a kid was the buccaneer, most impressive airbrake design ! my father worked as a naval architect upon a few aspects of hms arkroyal, i had the pleasure of watching 2 buccs pass below the level of the deck one time long ago when they still flew. and not to forget the many occasions parked near military fields looking for the frightenings on the ramps.

Intresting, I lived close to a diversion airfield so we got a lot of aircraft doing touch and goes, and on the last day of the Buccaneer we got treated to an inpromptu aerobatic display from a Bucc out over the bay. Nimrod was the most common aircraft that visited over the years, but back in the 70s they used to fly Phantoms up and at the time I worked for a recording studio at the "Wick Airport Industrial Estate" we were recording a band from Aberdeen when an F4 went verticlal and full afterburner and rattled our recording session right out the door, not to say the engineer was mad! :)

My late uncle was a marine achitect too, and, not all of his work stayed on the surface ;)

"It was a very nice airplane, very fast. Had the lift coefficient of a piano."

LMAO! Thats a great quote! While it's not a formal class, most aviators quickly master Paraprosdokian's.

F-4 without even thinking about it.. a classic fighter, bomber, tactical plane, carrier ops, strong and powerful ..and also we are already getting DCS Mig-21 so this is what we need to complete the circle for a skeleton crew for Vietnam theatre ))) F-4,Mig-21,Huey, .. what else do we need? SA-2,3 ..and we are off to go.. oh and a map.. you see, we are almost there already))lol..

but i would be happy if we get when time is right of course a real detailed DCS:Vietnam experience..

Considering we are going to get a MiG-21Bis, I vote for an F-4 to tangle with it in the skies.

Which F-4 would we be talking about, though? I'm thinking F-4D, F-4E or F-4J, all Vietnam-era aircraft.

(particularly since unlike the F-15E, the F-4's controls are not replicated in both seats).

USAF Phantoms did, at least the F-4C and F-4D.

Didn't F4s and Migs tangle during the Arab/Israeli wars as well?

The 'Buc' (Buccaneer) .. now that's a flying legend, or even a Mirage III ...

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!
