The name of the dummy or connectors has no influence on how 3ds max exports them. You can name a connector dummy and it'll still be a connector, and vise versa.

Dummys (boxes) are exported, but not seen by MV.

Connectors (point) are exported, but seen as small purple boxes.

I suggest creating your LOD dummies (boxes) in 3ds max and name them appropriately. Then link them to the model(s) needed.

Create your one connector in 3ds max too and name it properly so the helicopter can pick it up.

Connectors (point) are used for attaching other models or game graphics. Link it to the main model.

Hi Rudel,

if I name a Dummy anything else than "Dummy", then it will be also a connector and is seen in the MV.

I need connectors with the name Dummyxxx. I will try it with points and name them Dummyxxx.

Thanks for your help.

Wanted: an EDM Plugin that integrates with 3DS Max 2015 (2016 might be a good upgrade as well since that has also been released).

If anybody knows the author of this product please give him/her a gentle nudge.

Thanks in advance!!!

Oops... I guess I should have read the first post. It seems that there is no intention to add more recent versions at this point in time.

tried, didn't work.

do you know what causes this issue?

or should I switch to dedicated viewer?

find the reason: when quit, the modelviewer.cfg was written with new but small resolution, delete the cfg or change the resolution to a larger one can solve it

If happened again you can go to saved game to check the cfg of viewer, you can see that the resolution becomes 640x480 and that's why no window pop up

A2: To correct glass: Glass is no longer created by a checkbox selection field. It is created by a combination of a texture with an alpha channel, (TGA/ PNG) and 3ds max settings. The transparency level is controlled in the alpha channel of your texture, the color of the glass is done in the main channels. Once that is finished, follow the above steps but instead, select "Glass" as the material. Under "Blinn Basic Paramaters", pick your TGA/ PNG texture for the Diffuse and the Opacity channels.

hi

can someone elaborate this proceedure, please ?

I have followed to the tutorial made by this guy:

[ame]

[/ame]

I have assigned all settings in the material editor as instructed but i'm still unable to produce the same final glass result as shown in his video. The problem is that i can't figure out HOW should be made the original .TGA file he is using to make the transparency and reflection done through the alpha channel to simulate glass/canopy in DCS as the .tga creation step is not explained in that tutorial.

So, I would like to know how should be properly created that .tga transparent texture file with the alpha channel in it.

At this moment i was able to reproduce a window glass effect using the provided .png file and as explained in this post there:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2314497&postcount=798

that method may be used for buildings or structures but it is not the same glass effect as it is present on all DCS aircraft canopies neither as the one produced in that tutorial video.

here a pic of what i have obtained with the default SU-27 parked nearby so you can see the difference of how does look the canopy: (the wooden box nearby is just a bump mapping texture test that worked kinda well)

bYFmXp5.jpg

thanks in advance

ps: another question, does anyone have an idea why that box doesn't cast shadows?

I normally make a Shapes folder in the bazar folder and put all my models in there for ease of use..

in the extra tab when you make the material cool, scroll down a bit and there's some tick boxes and another dropbox/pulldown menu.

Hi Teschmacher, Im the person who actually made the video. I'm just getting back into modding/skiining after a long time away so refreshing my memory. Your box probably doesn't cast a shadow because it looks like you have the time set to midday so the sun is directly overhead? Im going to try to do a few more videos over the next couple of weeks but like my comment on the youtube video I cant promise anything.

With making a the glass texture files is a matter of making a png etc. with rgb AND an alpha channels and then experimenting with values. Open up some of the glass textures from in game models (like the su27) in photoshop and have a look at their channels and use the color picker to get an idea of what works.

Unless your a part of the approved 3rd party developer ED doesnt give you anything in the way of info so we have all figured this out with trial and error

Last time I downloaded ModelViewer, it crashed my system and took me two weeks to do a complete system reinstall!

Keen for this not to happen again, I would like to know which version to use.
