I'm not sure if this has been answered elsewhere, or if it classified information, but I have to ask. How will 3rd Party aircraft (among other things) be implemented into multiplayer? I'm not going to pretend to know how MP works, because I've never played MP on a flight sim. If a 3rd party aircraft is released, will everyone have to download a hotfix/model so they can play with people using this mod? Will addons be integrated into MP at all? And if so, I'm really curious as to how Mig-21 Bisons and F-104G's are going to be a match for the F-22's. Again, I've never played MP, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Clarification would be nice, thanks in advance! :thumbup:

 

I was hoping to "get good" with the Mig-21bis and join a VFW when it comes out, but I'm not even sure if it will be implemented. It seems to have official ED support however, so my fingers are crossed!

Well, I guess that it will be the same as with other games,you have to purchase the plane

if you want to fly it,but if not you can still fly against other people using it,the plane will be

in DCS:World just as anyother ai plane(su30,f16,f15e,etc),but you just have to pay for it to fly it yourself.

I think that's the plan. Flyable when you have purchased the aircraft, and if you haven't you still can see, fly with and fight other humans who have, or AI aircrafts. Just like it is with A-10C, Ka-50 and P-51D now.

 

Of course, this means that the free DCS World core would have to be updated to include new aircrafts (external model, AI behaviour, weapons, etc...)

I think some utility that automatically installs new aircraft and updates, as well as giving us an option to install flyable versions of new aircraft, would be a welcome feature.

Best guess is that if a module adds new content like sounds, models, and other shared art assets we will probably see a DCS World patch adding the relevant content to remain online compatible while the 3rd party will have a separate install for the module specific stuff.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

i think that this is a very nice question, with an easy response :

 

All DCS:XXX mod will be integrated in the DCS:Core (DCS:World) application, so if you set a multiplayer game with Mig21, A10 and KA50 (ie: official mod), you have only to own at least one plane of the mission to get in.

But, with the 3rd party, if you haven't the plane, you CAN't (even if you have at least one plane of the mission), join the server => you've got to own all the 3rd party module used in the mission ! (this is the key)

 

I'm not sure if it was clear, but i think (not sure but ED could complete if needed) that if you user 3rd party module on multiplayer mission, then you don't give a chance for other people who don't have the 3rd party module to join the mission.

 

=> the only way ED could give a workaround to this (IMHO) is to set a "default" plane for all 3rd party module (like a replacement plane for those who haven't it, even if it will not be flyable), and to refresh the sim's information (cooridnate, speed, etc.) with the 3rd Party module played by the other player.

 

=> Imagine, that i'm setting a multiplayer mission with my home made module (why not ? :) YES YOU CAN ! :p ) like the F22 Raptor, wich have his Basic Flight Model. how can you "draw" on your screen a plane that you don't have ? will it be a nice option to use the MIG21 "drawing" instead of my F22 Raptor, and to see the MIG21 doing some "bizare" tricks in sky (have you notice the F22 / MIG21 difference in real life ?)

 

In brief, as long as you create mission with official DCS:Plane (included in the DCS:World) there won't be any problem. But when you create a mission with a 3rd Party Module Plane, so you only allow people who have this module to join the party.

 

And yes, like i said, this what i'm thinking ;)

Making a host have to buy every aircraft just to host a multiplayer with different 3rd party aircraft would be a low blow for the multiplayer community.

 

I have faith with ED this will not be the case, and the multiplayer community will continue to stay strong.

I'm hoping at the very least that ED updates clients with the external aircraft models for all third party aircraft. That way everyone can see and fly with other people even if they can't fly those particular aircraft themselves.

That is unlikely to be the case. As it is currently with DCS:-World all you need is 1 paid for module to host any and all DCS aircraft. I don't see this changing to be honest.

that would be how Arma works. In Arma I believe if you dont own it you cant play in a mission that is using it. Mission makers will need to be specific on how they label what aircraft are in a mission.

Its going to be interesting to see how they address this, currently if you add a plane or vehicle you cant connect via multiplayer at all. If they continue down this path they will have to update the game with each and every mod as they come out, which is probably fine if they plan on just allowing approved mods.

 

From the little contact I have had with a dev ( I am working on a new vehicle ) it sounds like they want to try and change how that works, but couldnt really offer up much on how they would, of course I doubt I am anywhere near the need to know list anyways :)

 

I personally think the mod system needs to be tweaked enough that if I had a new vehicle, it doesnt affect the core game and I can still connect to servers that dont have that new vehicle. Of course that has the other problem of mods not added to the core by ED not being able to be hosted by people that dont own that mod.

 

Be interested to see how they address going forward...

yep, this is how it should work => only the best 3rd Party mod or the community "gold" ranking ones, could be integrated in the DCS:Core. and why not, the ones which pay a royalty fee ;)

Well I'm hoping that we can download the modules, but we just can't use them unless we put in a purchaseable product key. Or just the model and sounds so we can see other players using 3rd party products in multiplayer.

I'll put it like this:

 

Download DCS: World.

Activate your A-10C or BS2 module (whichever is applicable).

 

Notice the guy flying P-51D (if you've joined a server where those are available to fly)? Even though you didn't install it nor purchase it?

 

Draw your own conclusions. ;)

Because ED isn't making the third party modules and may not update the core engine to include all third party modules. I don't really know, but I hope some kind of solution is found for this issue.

 

I hold the opinion that it should be left to the 3rd Party Devs to decide whether their model/texture/sounds etc. get released for free as a compatibility patch. If a developer doesn't want to do so, then only those who have bought the module will be able to fly with those who haven't.

I would have thought that this issue would have been dealt with before someone decided to accept a license agreement with ED.

I can't speak to what would be agreed upon as I don't have a license agreement and wouldn't say if I did. I am just putting out my opinion.

What I mean is that if compatibility is left up to the 3rd party Devs and they don't release a compatibility, then you wouldn't be able to fly on a server that was using it. Unless ED has a solution like a default model to place over an unknown aircraft.

So what defines a third party dev. Less clear than ever now if you are one but have no agreement with ED.
