rosco350 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) getting a video not found error on the vimeo Yeah it's still uploading I guess. Give it a few minutes and it should be there. Update: Video is now up and working. Ignore the audio. :) Edited July 30, 2014 by rosco350
Buznee Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 From looking at the video, it looks like the tracking is relatively smooth. I definitely see a few stutters though. Is that the Rift just getting out of the field of view of the tracking camera? I can see that would be annoying and may cause some slight disorientation.
Cowboy10uk Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 How on earth have you managed to get the gauges so clear comparatively. Even when I lean in, I can't really read any writing on the dash or cockpit. May I ask what settings you are using? Hooves Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Ok Cowboy I followed your post and ALOMOST have it working. When DCS loads up it puts on half of the screen (the right eye) on my main monitor and the other half (left eye) in the rift. and I also dont have a functional mouse. its rendered but unable to click on anything. :( EDIT: Ok solved the split image problem, I put the Oculus display as Portrait flipped. I still have no mouse however. and the tracking has a REALLY bad stuttering effect as I move my head around the cockpit. Edited July 30, 2014 by Hooves

Yes, that stuttering is when I get out of the field of view of the camera. It then jumps back once it finds the rift again. The FOV of the camera is an issue Oculus mentioned they were improving and it needs it. It's not hard to go outside the view of the camera. I wonder if some kind of wide angle lens would help? Once you figure out the bounds of the camera you get used to it though. I am also too close to the camera so it would probably be better if I moved further back.

Same config I used for the DK1. It's actually clearer for me in the Rift too. The pictures are much blurrier than what I see when flying.

Would be over the moon if I could get the gauges clearer. As to Using Zoom, I've not tried that mate, I was staying clear of that for now as wasn't too sure how that would affect the motion sickness. I also have zoom mapped to my throttle, so guess I need to bite the bullet and test it tomorrow. Once I've recovered after being told at 18:00hrs that I was needed in work at 02:00. For a 12hr shift. :( Hey who needs sleep. Mandrake5 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Just read elsewhere that the DK2 does not work with AMD cards with DCS World. Before I entirely lose my shit about this, can someone kindly confirm if this is still the case?
blksolo Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 All I can say is that I have yet to find a person that could get DCS working with a DK1 or DK2 with an AMD card. ED has not acknowledged that there is a problem to begin with.Their lack of acknowledgement leads me to believe there might be an NDA keeping them from saying there is a problem Intel i7 6700k OC 4.7ghz Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard Zotac GTX980ti 6GB Amp Extreme 32 GB DDR4 3200 RAM Oculus Rift CV1 Thrustmaster Warthog
Random Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Well next payday should coincide roughly with arrival of my rift. But annoying all the same.
G00dnight Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Interesting development regards AMD card and rift, today because of all the talk about DK2 I retried my DK1. Unchecked rift box in DCS, started Nthusim software and it works again. I don't use rifts tracking I have Tir in 1to1 mode, Nthusim is set to enable desktop correction this is the only box ticked, DON'T tick mouse emulation it glues the cursor to center of screen. now I will try and find out why DCS native support not working I have an Idea about rendering.. jib Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 The pictures and video look worse than it does when you are actually looking through the rift. [/url] Why are lots of other people saying they cannot read the instruments at all with the DK2 when you seem to say you read most of them ok? Are you using an extreme amount of zoom or leaning? Have you tried the big hud font mod? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=95797&highlight=hud+big+font Will it allow you to read the HUD? Even though I am a software developer I think I am going to wait for the consumer version before buying one and doing any real gaming. A lot of people say one of the most amazed things about the Oculus Rift is that they can lean over at look out of the side or front of the aircraft, I can do that well enough with my TrackIR 5 while sat 2 feet from a 36 inch Screen. Kuky Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Problem is... yes you can lean forwards and get close look into instrument you want to read... but who wants to fly or have (or can do) combat like this? What are you going to do... keep track of the bogey or keep leaning forward to read instrument(s), check speed, altitude etc? Also it's one thing to have game pause, not flying and lean like this... you shouldn't be doing this while actually flying (or having combat) So while some say they can read.... it is actually not practical to do so (which is why most others say they cannot read the instruments/hud/etc) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
