meishibinder Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Today's update has eliminated my cockpit stuttering. My next hope is that the cockpit shadow problem gets resolved. My left eye and right eye are seeing shadows casted from different angles.

CV1 @ 4k anyone? hehehe They would also struggle with cabling. That HDMI lead on the rift is precision engineered to be able to do the required resolution with the lowest possible latency (one reason you cannot add an extension cable). I can't remember where I read it, but right now they do not have the ability to send 4k down a cable without inducing unworkable latency. Possibly just an engineering problem however, solvable with MIRRIONS OF DORRAR [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I LIKE TO PLAY PRODIGAL WOMBAT STIMULATOR

Chivas Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Cormack was recently asked whether the OR could be used for general desktop work. He replied that won't be comfortable until the OR has a 4K display. That implied to me that the first OR consumer version will not have a 4k display. I'm sure future OR displays will be 4k, and above when the displays ,and the tech required to drive them are more common place. :)

metalnwood Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Stutter gone? I better get the update then. I see that there was an update for the prepar3d oculus plugin. I write it here because they implemented time warp and boy has it made it a lot smoother without having any more frames. So obviously there is something that can at least help compensate for lower frame rates and give you a better experience.
metalnwood Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Did the update and the annoying jittering cockpit is gone, nice first step. Hopefully the new engine will get us in to the require frame rates for low latency and we are going to have it made. I still find the instant action of the default su25t 'dusk landing at mozdok' to be one of the best, the horizon is nice, there is a good sensation of speed and the ground textures look very realistic for the dusk lighting. Really nice having those fields start to whiz by as you come in for landing.

But I like having to overclock my CPU to twenty billion gigahertz and modifying 20,000 ini files :) J/K, am just peeved as I have been having fights with 'other' sims lately to get them to run smoothly and not look like they are being played on an Amiga 500. Why did this ever become the norm for flight sims anyway? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I LIKE TO PLAY PRODIGAL WOMBAT STIMULATOR
DerekSpeare Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Hi folks - I'm new to DCS and using the Rift. Does the sim automatically download and install updates or do I need to do that manually? If a manual update is needed, where do I d/l the latest ones? I have installed DCS ver x.32275 - any help is appreciated! Thank you! Also you can force an update with opening "Update DCS World" in the directory. Good to see you in the flight sim space :) I am here :) I am a flight sim fan going all the way back to when Spectrum Holobyte published their first Falcon title for the IBM 8088...with CGA graphics! One day I will post a photo of all my old boxes of flight sims...I still have them! I'm hoping to develop a new button controller specifically for the flight sim community ;) If anyone has a solution to get rid of the judder, please tell me. I'm running an i7-3820 with a GTX780 and all graphics are lowest. There's nothing I can do, and it seems as if the refresh rate is locked to the rate of the main screens, which is 60hz. I tried tech support, but received no guidance other than "we can't duplicate it here..." Other titles with DK2 support such as LFS, Race Room and the demos for the DK2 are butter smooth. DCS has no option to set the Rift specifically to 75hz. I was hoping for a newer version to try, but it seems I have the latest. BTW, I do like the controller support for DCS...many controller...much button! Hi Derek We have a thread over on the Oculus forums with a lot of discussion on DCS and DK2: https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=11328 From what I have read, the solution for you may be to set your Rift as primary, as if you don't it seems to inherit the primary's Hz. Also make sure you are running in fullscreen mode, as apparently running windowed forces the inheriting too. One of the Oculus users tested it out, not sure how though. This means you end up doing the one eyed willy dance with the rift to work the menus :( Some have been using Open Broadcaster to mirror the screen, but apparently the update has introduced an incompatibility with it. The end of that thread above picks up on it I think. Its not the best solution, but if you can navigate the menus one-eyed then you will be able to see if it fixes the judder at least. A last ditch attempt would be to disable your main and use the rift as the only monitor, but that probably sounds about as appealing as a beer fart in a broom cupboard. CookPassBabtridge Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 I'm beginning to believe I need to strip down the screens to 1 main and the rift :( :( Or maybe build a second box :) :) Hi Derek, I have heard that somewhere before. I wish I could remember where I read it, but yes I am certain there was someone who had a multi-monitor display and found it would not play nice with the rift. I have future plans for a triple header AND rift setup, as there are just going to be certain flight sims that won't like the rift and it will be nice to have the option to switch. Also, I dont know if 6 hour sessions are viable with the headset on, it does tend to get rather warm :) Hopefully they will have fixed it by then or I can buy some kind of swicher box that lets me deactivate the triple header with a button. digitaljjd Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Wow! Huge difference! I'm not sure if it was the update or me changing my primary to a lower res at the same 75 Hz refresh rate as the rift, but it's a major improvement. It's finally playable for me now. I flew around for a few minutes and didn't get sick. Very cool.
CookPassBabtridge Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Hi chaps I don't know if any of you are having the same issue as me, but my Rift is starting to smell like a Sumo wrestler's jockstrap. Sticking that foam on permanently wasn't the best solution given the sweatiness of the target demographic (speak for myself lol). I am now a bit embarrassed to let anyone try it. Mmmmm. Dishcloths. So for anyone interested, there is a kickstarter just .. started, called About Face. You can get comfy, non smelly, washable replacement face masks for your DK1 or DK2 :) A few of us over at the Oculus forums have taken the plunge, looks like delivery is December. Just long enough for the existing foam to get REALLY rancid ... Pic: If this constitutes advertising then mods please modify / delete :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I LIKE TO PLAY PRODIGAL WOMBAT STIMULATOR
DerekSpeare Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 That pad is a good idea. I know folks who want to demo their device likely don't want face funk on it... I'm going to post these things here b/c I don't want to post in other areas where they may be misplaced: - I found a big white box around my bird in a training mission: It wasn't there in other missions...known issue? The box looked like a larger version of the rounded square in the HUD on the SU25 at the start of the basic nav training mission. - Apparently the Mig29G (?) has a flat cockpit with a flat pilot. Which ones have the 3d cockpit? - I like DCS's controller support! As a manufacturer of computer gaming controllers, this is a big deal...we tested DCS and confirm that it offers native support for our 64button controller as well as deep support for multiple controllers. Bravo to the developers for that! - I ran some fraps benchmarks and am getting 90+ fps on the rift, so frame rates are likely not the culprit of my judders. Hopefully they will continue to polish the support of this device. It looks a bit like a kubrickian monolith :) Off top of my head, the Ka-50 Black Shark has a 3d cockpit and pilot. All of the paid modules are 3D too but may not have a pilot. Talking of controllers, do you by any chance have any plans to make a heli cyclic and collective? At the moment there is very little affordable choice out there, with a good setup being easily upwards up $1000 :( I think there's quite a few folks that would rather fancy a nice looking controller for their Huey or Black Shark :D Is force feedback tough to do? That would be awesome for the trim systems. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I LIKE TO PLAY PRODIGAL WOMBAT STIMULATOR
Mohamengina Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Does anyone know how to make the zoom function with the Oculus? Even without the rift this function is essential to be able to see targets and having it disabled with the rift is limiting. Also is there any way to move the mouse around to click things in the cockpit? Otherwise very immersive - can't wait for EDGE and consumer RIFT.
