like Roiegat said, Im waiting to swat down those bothersome flies with the Shark...

Those "bothersome flies" have teeth too..

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

RedRain obviously didn't read the thread and has no idea what he is talking about. The information is readily available on these forums and everyone knows it's problems at ED that hold up the Huey. Add to that the recent sad loss of life and nobody can 'demand' or 'expect' anything soon (be glad if ED manages to fix the issues soon that hold 1.2.4 up).

One could argue this is a very weak trolling attempt.

Even the attitude suggests a small spoiled child, which even has the gall to accuse others of behaviour he is guilty of himself. (Living in mum's basement lol)

Made me rage a little. I am a fixed wing guy, probably won't buy a Heli anytime soon. BUT even if I can't support them with money right now, Belsimtek has my full moral support. These guys are great and have done a great deal of work in a very short time. Don't **** with them or we (the 'cult') will rip your head off!

How long has it been that the Huey section is officially accessible on the DCS-homepage...? Just noticed.

Does anyone else smell a release close by? hehe

(Just a detail: From the screenshots you can tell that the cockpit avatars now can move their heads not just horizontally, but also vertically)

Its been a week already that the Huey page was 'officially linked' on the DCS page in the products section.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/huey/

Some time ago it was hidden and some sneeky Russians found it and posted it on the forums, hehe but it was incomplete and work in progress then, months ago.

Recently updated and linked now, the pre release manual was released for comment by the community as well, so things are moving ahead nicely.

Now as ED and EB say its testing and getting rid of as many bugs as possible.

Patience, not easy but hey, its coming!

Are we thinking the UH-1 door gunners will have AI (bots) when human is piloting?

or, are the door gunner positions only available when you manually switch to them, putting chopper into AP mode automatically?

Also... will auto-AP modes work in multiplayer missions (assuming yes)?

I'm thinking the poor UH-1 will be a pretty outmatched by the Shark... unless undetected :) Some rox, minigun, or door gunner fire would change a Shark pilot's opinion pretty quick methinks.

Man... cannot wait for multi-human playable positions so we can fill up a UH-1 and door gunner away.

Anyhow... first things first of course.

Cheers everyone.

Initially I don't think the door gunner will have AI while you pilot - but it would be cool.

Given that you could in the future have 4 people (two pilots, two gunners) on the Huey and only one person in a Shark....I would think more eyes to find the target would be best.

^^ Yeah... I would agree with that assessment. However... if Shark pilot detects you first... poof!

Will be fun to see how it works out. Chopper v chopper fights in dissimilar aircraft will be fun to try out!

And... I'm assuming a full AI UH-1 will have active door gunners... ? Wondering if they will fire on other aircraft while airborne?

You could create a multiplayer mission where you are flight lead and you assign a group of AI UH-1 to "follow" or "escort"... then you would have some of what you are talking about until we get multi-human-seating capability.

This could probably warrant it's own thread. But given all things equal I think the Shark is more manuevable, but the Huey has more guns on the sides.

why would you put the two against each other anyway, UH-1H is a utility helicopter with a bite, KA-50 is an attack helicopter.

Apples and Oranges come to mind :)

anyway reading back it seems some are a little hot under the collar at the moment, join me while I sit back and chillax with a beer :)

its coming don't worry guys

Yeah agree on both counts there.

Wont try fight a Mig29 in a A-10, Huey vs Apache or Shark is rather insane.

Been thinking about how we can integrate the Huey into A-10 missions for MP for a while.

If the A-10's take out the hardcore air to air threats the Huey can do some pretty nifty mop up ops.

A-10 leave from a base further away from the IP with Huey gunships deploying from a Farp. timing is everything.

We will see.

As for the beer, sipping on some Ilse of Jura for good measure

Think the shark has got very good stand off ranges something like 5-8K? where door gunners are line of sight there gonna need 50 cal weapons just to hit something they might see as a dot?

Yeah, that's a pretty huge advantage... again... only real shot as UH-1 is a.) numbers, b.) first detection.

This could probably warrant it's own thread.

True. My bad... couldn't resist daydreaming.

With you on the beer front!

As far as "why?", because it's interesting and the sim allows it. Like most, I enjoy purity and accuracy, but hey... it's a sim and a sandbox that lets us try things that have not yet been conceived of. It's just fun at the end of the day.

Beer me!

With the missions I do for 9th shrek squadron I have integrated the huey in a convoy protection role (waiting for 1.2.4 patiently), supporting front line and clearing up afterwards, with a sneaky random ambush or I.E.D to make things exciting :)

But I am sure as soon as we get our hands on it we will be able to take it to the next level :)

Ok hypothetically a group of Huey's are on the way to LZ to recover some troops. AWACS isn't able to detect the Sharks since they are masking well with the mountain terrain. So while the Huey's get closer they are jumped by a group of Sharks.

Or, UH-1s are returning to base after dropping troops at LZ and stumble across one or more attack choppers.

I mean... we're not all on the US side of the house in all missions right? And UH-1s were made and sold en-mass. So... maybe you're the poor SOB in the Mi-24 who runs into an A-10 (for example).

Point is s*#t happens, plans fail, AWACS GCI coverage is imperfect, etc. It's not impossible or even that unrealistic really... especially in a special forces type scenario where you're inserting troops behind enemy lines... or Pakistan (cough)... but this time the country is suspicious and has assets in the air.
