Fingers crossed we'll see Nevada before the end of the year. I think that was the roadmap in one of the updates... or was that last year? :banned:

I wish they will enlarge the existing one, don't need many but small and separated theaters.

But first of all we need good mesh not to fly over polygonal mountains ;)

I agree. Having not flown the KA50 for a long time, due to the arrival of A10c, I was pretty disappointed by how bad looking the terrain is when flying about in the UH1.

The contrast between the High detail cockpit model/textures and the dated terrain makes it even worse.

Specs: GA-Z87X-UD3H, i7-4770k, 16GB, RTX2060, SB AE-5, 750watt Corsair PSU, X52, Track IR4, Win10x64.

When all your concentration and brain power goes on to fly the aircrafts and kill targets the last thing I'll pay attention to is the terrain right now. But, the actual Nevada map for me is not so important, the most important part of the package is the EDGE terrain engine which will unlock new features (currently very hard or impossible to make) and solve a large number of performance and terrain issues (e.g. tree collisions) in the current engine. Plus it's going to be 64bit exclusive and (fingers crossed) true multicore and improvement of ATC. This last one is very important for me because it brings the immersion to a whole new level.

theres no immersion if mountains are cubes if you ask me...

Western Europe with the UK included would be fantastic!

Cross-Channel missions and low level fun on the Mach loop when the Hawk is out :D

And it would allow the good old scramble to intercept that one bloody Russian aircraft that strayed into British airspace :music_whistling:

Or the Baltic region (with Nordic countries)? Quite some room for both air, sea and ground operations of all kinds, and Kaliningrad squeezing up the Baltic states makes it all even more interesting :)

Hell yea! No more deserts no more afghanistan or iraq, game devs are puking this crap out on daily bases, give us europe and uk!

Weirdly enough I was thinking the same thing while taking the Huey for a spin earlier today. I am REALLY tired of the Black Sea-region... I think this is also one of the things that prevent a lot of people from getting into DCS.

It's niot the region, its the low poly terrain and the facts that trees and forrest are onlly cosmetic and won't do nothing...you can't collide with them and they will only block your sight but neither A.I. sight nor any kind of Fire.

that's the main point why the map fails for low flying and that's nothign new.

The problem is indeed the terrain mesh, texture resolution, trees, models for structures and static vehicles, etc. Seems unlikely anything is going to happen until EDGE is ready for release and that may take a while. Personally I couldn't think of a more interesting region than the Caucasus and Georgia. I really hope the current map gets upgraded and not scrapped when we get there.

Matt has stated previously that the current terrain would have to be redone from scratch to make it compatible with EDGE and, for that reason, it would not be happening.

That is not to say that plans may change but...

When that changes, I will buy one of the heli modules. The new map is badly needed indeed.

I'm sure there's at least 1 guru on this forum that might find it peanuts to convert our beloved Caucasus to the EDGE engine.

I'm also sure that ED themselves are interested in flying over different terrains. Who doesn't. It will come and I can't wait too. :D

It would help if we could add more structures and trees as well. Birdy created a great mod for FC2 that allowed you to do that and it really helped add to the immersion values low down if you wanted to create something different, but I have not been able to make that Mod work in DCS World, all I managed to do was change some of the add on buildings and add a few tree lines. Unfortunately every time it updates the changes are lost, so that's a non starter really.

Still working on it though, I might find the way one day !!!!

Yeah, uhm, no. You can't convert it. You can rebuild it from scratch, but that is no small feat.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

A new map / area must be in development by the Duke Nukem remake devs ;)

It's not that bad, trust me. :)

How many developers, 3D designers, programmers etc are actually working at ED (on DCS World products)? Or is that a state secret :)

Look at the credits in the manual. Of course that is only representative of the time when the manual was made.

Allright, I count over 50 people (without testers) for P51D. A10C had over 65 people working on it.

I'll assume not all of those worked full time on those simulations, but spread out to other projects (including DCS World, Flaming Cliffs 3, Combined Arms etc), possibly also outside the 'gaming' portion of the ED production?

That's not too many is it. :) But they're smart so I am sure if time is given we will see products just as good as the ones we already have.
