I suspect he means turn rate.

The F-16 will want to keep the fight fast, the Hornet will chew him up in a low speed engagement.

When you talk about dogfights, you are analyzing two things, turn rate and turn radius. If the hornet can drag the viper into a super tight, low speed engagement, he can still turn while the viper is stalling out. However, the viper can actually rate faster than the hornet, at least in a sustained setting, so while the hornet holds the ability to regulate the engagement, the viper still has some wiggle room because he can bring his nose around faster. This is actually very similar in some respects to what an eagle pilot has to deal with against a flanker.

Likewise, a hornet has no control zone when it comes to fighting a viper, so the viper is going to be limited to medium aspect snapshots, HAGS, etc.

From what I understand though, the viper should be coming out on top. At least the viper pilots I know seem to be pretty confident about their training against the F-15's, while the hornet pilots, well, let's just say they aren't very happy when the eagles come around.

:megalol: Thats a good one, nobodys happy when the Eagle comes around unless they're in an Eagle. IMO I hope ED models the Hornet and then later the F-16, both aircraft are awesome and I'll be getting both.

What's out there for reading material regarding the experiences of F/A-18 Pilots? I've seen a couple of novels written by Viper drivers, but nothing from the Hornet guys.

O wouldn't that just be the be all and end all!!

From what i'v read this can be very subjective, the Eagle drivers are dedicated air superiority. So they will always be looking to come out on top. In BVR the F-15 mops up. But dissimilar BFM the little viper is hard to see and fight against in a big fighter.

The navy shouldn't feel too disheartened, It is F/A after all.

The F-14 and F-15 were very closely matched and both groups had great respect for the other.

I'm not sure the F-15C wins too many mud moving competitions!

And when all is said and done, it's not very likely that F-15's, F-16's and F(/A)-18's will be fighting each other anyway.

A more interesting discussion would be MiG-21 vs F/A-18C which seems to be the first "real" fighter vs. fighter battle we can have in DCS.

Of course the F/A-18C has many advantages, but I think that the old MiG could be pretty capable in the right hands.

I'm thinking a pair of MiG's could possibly take down a pair of F/A-18's with the right tactics.

One MiG plays bait and lures the F/A-18's in, the second "hides" with the radar off outside the radar cones of the F/A-18's, with good communications to keep up the SA the hiding MiG could get close and surprise the Hornets. Maybe :D

For homework get FSX and acceleration, Dinos T45C, AI CARRIERS2, Javiers Carriers and vLSO.

And you've got the option of getting the Sludge Hornet mod or the VBA Hornet mod.:joystick: And payware VRS Superhornet and Tacpac.

I have all of those, but I don't really enjoy FSX as much as I do DCS. Also I only get 30 Fps on a good day in FSX which really bothers me.

So does everybody else. But hey- what's the good in creating an API and getting the rest of the world to work off it, when you're not interested in optimizing it on your own products, eh?

Yeah, ALL things considered it is, especially the current aircraft.

The avionics in the Hornet are "nicer" than the Viper, the FCS is also a bit more advanced than the Viper, although still quite "old hat" compared to more modern jets.

The Viper does do a few things a bit better, but on the whole the Hornet just clinches it I'd say. My thoughts on the two are simple really, the Hornet might be the best overall option in combat, but I still love the Viper more. It's just cooler.

In fact, I'll let Dos Gringo's speak for me, they do a much better job. :D

LOL I loved the line "we can fly up our own ass holes"

Hopefully a DCS intro in 5 years time! All we need now, is a viper announcement...

What are the chances of seeing an exterior model for the D? I know a dual cockpit (modeled or functional) is out of the question, but it'd be nice to see the dual seater external model mated with the 'C' model pit.

+1

The D model is the sexiest looking strike fighter alive IMO.

We don't need a viper announcement, because then we won't have any other AFM aircraft to fight against unless you count the Mig-21 or NATO vs NATO.

ED never actually announced an F/A-18, right?

Just want to be sure...

With the Huey, dual/multi seater and multiple vehicle position are now allowed !

So no excuse to ED for now create the F/A-18C AND the F/A-18D, same for the F-15C/D

With C version of any of them, a lot of work are already done, the flight model don't need to change a lot, the avionic are the same, just some more function for the copilot and a modified 3D model (with copy and past for majors party)

But i think if we want the dual seat variant of any of them, we will need to fight, sadly...

A lot of people want to be a RIO, it can be fun and immersible, mainly for anyone in a squadron or even teach someone.

Anyways, High Alpha yeah, nothing are better !!!

To be honest, it seems like they have been at it for quite a while. Some people are speculating it might (possibly, this is just speculation) be released in this summer. I think someone in this thread even speculated it might be released in August, which is actually quite early and quick, when comparing it to the amount of time we usually have to wait for PMDG and VRS products to be released. It is quick for most game developers. Thank god they do parallel development. I can't wait either, but it's definitly worth the wait
