Exigo Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I am very interested in all that you have shown here. To be honest I am most interested in a new base to swap out the sticky stock base on my Thrustmaster atm as I cba to take it apart and fix something Thrustmaster should have done themselves. I hope you will be ready soon, your LOD and product plans are more interesting then the VKB Gladiator. Woogey Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Plan is to make it out of resin? i really liked that idea over the aluminium one because of the price difference and because it can be in some/most cases more realistic. :joystick: The real F/A-18 grip is made of resin, not metal.

spaceraver Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I would recommend using plain cardboard boxes. It might look nice and clean in a custom made box with inscription and all that. But I for one really like the fact of minimal waste of resources. I'm by no means a eco hippie freak. But you can save on the cardboard packaging and use the money for either cheaper products or better components for the same price. Some of the best quality items that I own have been in plain cardboard boxes. Including MFG pedals, most of my tools. Anything with a Rotary Wing is fun and challenging. Use SRS radio. HeadHunter52 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 and, a better quality box can be made if the flashy graphics and labels costs are instead put into more rigid cardboard. It's not nice to see your package arrive, and discover that the OOPS guys damaged the box. You should see the box my PC case came in. It's now in use as a play box for a 14lb cat with the spirit of a tiger. Hasn't crushed it yet! Psyph3r Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Sorry for the silence folks, but as usual, silence means work. Turned out an industrial size non-metal laser cutter is a big priority. There will be engravings on the grips and a panel on the throttles, along with actual cockpit panels I plan on making. Also my custom 3d printer is 80% laser cut plexiglass and many other tools and jigs also. I had plans to outsource the cutting, but quantities became too large, or their lasers too small and too expensive. So, for the last month or two I've been designing my own 2x3m laser cutter, which will in turn be used to make several 3d printers and panels and engravings needed on all the products. There's also a custom packaging foam cutting machine, cnc painting machine and many other tools I need to design and fabricate myself in order to make this project industrially and financially viable. That is, on the scale I have in mind at least. Parts are arriving, things are in motion. But, in that 1% chance the large scale plan doesn't work out, I'll just switch to plan B and start producing these on a smaller scale, with some outsourcing and with a little less profit. So don't worry. They're coming one way or the other. I have some backups, so in case my laser cutter runs into problems or delays, I have already outsourced parts for a few 3d printers so I can proceed with the grips themselves. They should be operational next month, so I hope to have functioning warthog grips out there by the end of this year. Been following this for quite a while and I must tell you that I'm looking quite forward to buying your Hotas Systems AND Cockpit Equipment:pilotfly: --=_Flying Since LOMAC_=--

MFG62 Joker Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) I don't know where this cardboard discussion is coming from. :music_whistling: Is greenpeace around here somewhere? It's his project and if he decides to have a nice stylish box for his product, I'm fine. The guy seems to be willing to set it up near perfection. Then you also want to show nice marketing. Essential for that is a nicely designed box. It's like the icing on the cake! From my point of view this applies to all kinds of sales channels, may it be e-commerce or stationary. Besides that I personally like nice boxing and guess what boxes TM or Saitek uses? DieHard Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Nice! How easily is it to make molds for pouring aluminum? I know the original is made out of resin, but it'd be awesome to feel metal in your hands... One concern I have is the hat switches - they look like they have small throw... One of the things that makes Cougar/Warthog stand apart from the earlier TM sticks (F22 pro and etc) is the larger throw hat switches, making them feel more industrial. (re: Message #2 above) I know a guy in a R&D military contract workshop uses a laser incorporated into a 3D-printer using custom made metal matrix to build up in metal application. Don't know if a Google search will find info about this subject as it is need-to-know. This subject is about 2 years ago. But might trickle down eventually to the hobby guy, though expensive. Sorry, commenting on this old post, I just read it today. Google does have info about this subject, also see Google Images: ========================================== https://www.google.com/search?q=3D+printer+laser+metal+matrix+us+navy&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 My CH Products: Fighterstick USB, Pro Throttle USB, and Pro Pedals USB still operate as the day I first opened the boxes, and that was 4 or 5 years ago. Don't know if their current consumer products are as good today as what I purchased. CH Products does have a separate industrial application line and I bet if the money is right, they would create custom industrial applications. Edited October 29, 2015 by DieHard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hegykc Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 The boxes are all options now. If I'll sell each one individually, then all the boxes will travel throughout the world, so a fancy box would be all beaten up. But if I go through distributors, then it's a different story. Also, special editions for people who don't mind a bit of extra cost, a box in a box. I personally want some stuff made in metal, so metal castings will happen, but no promises there. I am days away from my own cnc laser and a larger printer and will continue posting pictures of prototypes in the coming weeks. www.replikagear.com
Revvin Posted November 1, 2015 Posted November 1, 2015 Sounds great, personally I think a simple cardboard box with a single black logo looks neat though to be honest most packaging ends up in the attic until a time comes when it gets thrown out so anything fancy is a waste IMHO.

Necroscope Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Who need the box? Take my money and gimme WARTHOG compatible F-18 grip, even in wrapped in plastic food wrap! ^) Всех убью, один останусь!
spaceraver Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Everybody needs a box, for shipping. And the occasional cat. :-) I didn't realize that I would make a storm with the box. Anyways.. The products look beautiful and I cannot wait to get a few grips. Most likely I need to do something else in the connection department as I have made a brass extension of the X55 stick I have now. Not the best weight wise, but it sure works and it's very solid. Anything with a Rotary Wing is fun and challenging. Use SRS radio.
