A small update showed up today. I downloaded and applied the patch. Now there is a *terrible* whining noise in the P-51. Sometimes it's there at the beginning of a quick mission, soimetimes it is not. With a cold start, the whining noise starts when I switch on the electrical power.

It sounds like: wheeeeeewheeeeeeewheeeeewheeeee!:helpsmilie:

Edit: it seems like this might be connected to missions that were saved before the patch?

I also have the same problem on a P-51 vs Fw-190 mission I made myself. Haven't tried other custom missions yet, but the instant action ones are fine

Have this sound issue too in various planes/modules.

Here is how I can reproduce this bug 100% - in the Su-27:

1.

Use attached Mission "All planes-modules test.miz"

2.

First Select the P-51D

3.

[ESC] > Briefing > Back > Select the Su-27.

= whining noise

Ok, I have this sound problem with user edited missions. So is it truly a problem that needs to be fixed or is this a "feature" and these new sounds are intended? If it is broken, is there a work-around I can apply before the next patch is released?

i have this strange sound as well...well i had it once....also in the P51....the sound remained, even after landing the aircraft and shutting it completely down..after restarting the same mission though, this strange whhzzzzzz noise was suddenly gone.

I was going to submit a bug report, but it almost seems to fix itself after the initial time it happens, at least I have not been able to recreate it again.

dont know sithspawn,...i just tested it again, and i still have it...this time twice in a row.both missions against a 190.

Is that a custom mission or one that game with DCS World? If its a custom mission can you resave it, not sure why that would make a difference but what the heck...?

I get it all the time in custom missions. The soundfile that makes the noise seems to be the same that's played when you're at high AoA in the P-51 (you can hear it very well in external view if you're into a tight turn).

What is weird is I only got it in the Su27, so I am not sure what is going on. If you guys can load tracks of it happening, if it does it in the play back of the track? I will point someone at this thread too as it seems very random in some cases...

Maybe it's the same sound that comes from the airflow over the gun/wing extensions of the P51, but now over-emphasized in all aircraft.

This was originally only a p51 phenomena.. ?

If I copy the stock Instant mission, P-51D vs P-51D, I have no problems.

If I open the copy to edit it, then save it, I have no problems.

If I change the enemy from a P-51D to an FW 190D-9 and save it, then I have the problem.

If I change the enemy back to a P-51D from an FW 190D-9, the problem goes away.

So I am going to call the problem related to the presence of the Fw 190.

it is a custom mission, and only happens when 190 are included in it it appears...resaving doesnt cure the problem though!i as well created one completely from scratch with the latest update and still the sound is there as long as there are 190s in the mission.

I must admit when I first looked at this thread title "Terrible whining noise" I thought it was a moan about DCS customers lol . . . .

Ah, yes, I think that is it. 190s are the common denominator when the whining noise occurs.

Yup, as I said in the other thread about this, its is something to do with the 190 and its fixed in a tester version, so hopefully we will see it in the next update.

Just got back from DCS Israel server. When I switch on fuel boost - the whining starts. Weird...

My first with 1.2.4.

EDIT: Joined few more servers and hosted my own MP mission. I have this whine constantly on now.

I'm having the same issue.

Here's a video I made showing the behavior. Looks to be linked with the Fuel booster pump switch. It takes a few seconds for the sound to stop after the switch is turned off. That was a saved mission with an AI 190. I will have to try others.

EDIT: Re-created the mission with a 109 and then a P-51 adversary. The noise occurs with the 109 but not the Mustang as others have pointed out. I'm very interested in what interaction there is that causes this relative to which aircraft is on the map.

Any official word on this issue? Today I experimented with the prospect of dogfighting the experten 190 with the fuel booster off. It's definitely do-able but you don't want it to drag out too long. Otherwise it sounds like there is a freight train on your six!

EDIT: I spoke too soon. Just tried again after the 1.2.4.12913.167 update. It appears to be fixed now. :) I tried all three aircraft opponents and no whistle. Thanks for the quick response on this!
