So this will be primarily a standalone simulator with altered DCS code base, based on the old engine when its released, not a future module or compatible with DCS WORLD?

I didn't see it mentioned what the future really is with this project. Will it be a module, and work with EDGE in a years time, or is it as I seem to understand purely a standalone product that allows multiplayer only with other F-35planes.

Maybe I've missed the explanations where anything could happen in the future on that part, rather than it become an endorsed Lockheed supported game/simulator.

Images appear to show it as a module, but there is no mention I saw of it being a 'DCS module', rather a standalone simulator based on DCS World and it's code base.

Sry, me playing curious cat and devils advocate here, and catching up on latest news..

First three lines in the kickstarter:

F-35A Lightning II will be a Lockheed Martin Licensed Product that features a beautifully rendered and faithfully detailed simulation of the F-35A and will not only be available in DCS World, but will include campaigns, training and instant action missions.

General info:

MULTIPLAYER. Available through DCS World, allowing for online interaction with other DCS pilots and Combined Arms

I dont know for sure, but my guess would be that the wrong wording was used there... I think all modules require DCS World, and all they meant was that it will come with alot of ways to get into action with the F-35... but I could be totally wrong...

Yep thx, bad habit of skipping the intro and going straight for the content. The content wasn't exactly clearly defined how I read it, which is why I asked.

Eg,

·MULTIPLAYER. Available through DCS World, allowing for online interaction with other DCS pilots and Combined Arms

I assume this means interaction with DCS World and its other modules.

Catching up on the kick start info now. Small criticisms, higher pledges would have been nice to have some more juicy contents( color printed manuals or apparel).

Yepp, some of the wording here and there can be confusing. Specially if English is not your first language.

But if one read through all the info you can get a pretty clear picture of what they want to do.

Clear definition is one thing, English translation is another. It wasn't clear, and I see no? mention of it being DCS:F-35 Module but more mention of it being Standalone and built on the DCS platform. Plans could be anything if its not clearly defined. But I assume since it will be compatible with CA, then it has to be compatible with all modules in MP.

.. All good, me being picky and curious how it will rate in the end in the DCS Battlefield, lol

Do you mean that after all this, we'll discover that it won't interact with other official modules, while in fact it's only a mod (like many others..)?

I don't think so.. they would make it clear from the start, they talked about a official DCS module, and so (if it will be completed and accepted by ED) it will be sold on the official website (exactly like the UH1...)... otherwise this whole hundred pages wouldn't make any sense. :D

I think it's easy to understand why they presented it as a standalone game rather than a DCS module: they want to make sure that people who don't know DCS will understand they won't have to pay for anything else but the F-35

How is this 'with or without DCS World' going to work?

I think, I saw it answered several times at different places. At FB this can be found: "DCS F-35 Hi Bogdan yes the F-35 will drop into the DCS World. Standalone, for those not familiar with DCS, means that no further purchase is required30. Juni um 06:31"

Posted (edited)

That's the point. Is it standalone or, standalone but requires the inclusion of a 4GB download from another company.

If you lump it with a DCS World download and have one .exe (can that be done?) on the DVD's/original downloads then it will be a standalone. For newcomers this will indeed be confusing as they won't understand how DCS World factors into the equation.

In the strict sense of the word it's probably meant as a module that is standalone, with the obviously implied proviso that a prior install of DCS World is needed.

All that said, with only 300 backers we can safely assume that they are all DCS forum members and all will know how it works.

Does it matter? It will work within DCS World - at least for multiplayer. That's what KI mentioned somewhere. But that also implies that it is (at least) a DCS module like any other aircraft we have. A technically independent solution would make a) no sense (efford wise) and/but b) would't hurt otherwise.

From the customer point of view - which KI has in mind with their explanations - it is "standalone" as in "you only have to pay for DCS F-35" as DCS World is free.

Posted (edited)

Maybe I'm missing something but making a 'Standalone' client aside DCS World built around the F-35 doesn't make sense considering ED went into much trouble to specifically design DCS World as a core to unify all modules into one World. If 3rd parties start building standalone clients around DCSW's 'modules' DCS World falls apart. It makes even less sense considering said 'standalone' gotta use the DCS assets I figure and DCS World is free for everyone. Our niche community doesn't need further splitting.

im pretty sure the context of "Standalone" in the Kickstarter Info is in regards to "Single Player"
