Hamblue Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 As noted just go the gameplay tab and unclick labels. You should be all set. Note that if your are in multiplayer and the server is set up to allow labels you may have to turn them off manually. Asus Sabertooth P67 Motherboard 2600k CPU, 16 gig DDR3, 1600. AhSoul Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I don't see the tabs in options due to the resolution being so low (1224x678 due to overscan) :) I really need to get some proper screens.... Shift + F10 sounds like the way forward thanks! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Soul's pit thread
-Pv- Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 If you're struggling with screen resolution, then this is a game changer for you. I can see how trying to find those tiny single pixel objects will be nearly impossible without help. That's what the labels are for, helping those of us who need help. -Pv-
AhSoul Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Hmm good point - not thought about the fact that visual scanning at my resolution is going to be pretty painful. It's not so bad if what I'm looking for is easily found via TGP as I've got those rendered on a 1600x1024 monitor with the Thrustmaster MFDs. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Soul's pit thread
-Pv- Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I'm on a 22" diagonal 1920*1080 and with these 60 year old eyes, spotting those small objects at distance while moving and staying sit aware is difficult. -Pv-
Darkwolf Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Detection is an important part of warfare. Eventually - the most important. If you feel it hard, remember that real pilots often have to deal with more detailed "maps" than we do, with infantry hidding in trenches, ditchs and houses.... Tanks and IFV camouflaged in bushes, camo nettings... It's so easy to find something in DCS compared to IRL. In the meantime, it's still require patience, training and .. luck. keep circling around to find them, use both TGP Infrared sensors, and also you Mk1 eyeball. A vital part is flight preparation, check seriously the map to have a certain "tactical awareness". If you know what the ennemi is doing - you will find it. And when your are doing this easily, try it the old way with no TGP or with a A10-A. It's even more fun. One thing i often do is to keep a rocket pod with smoke rockets. When i fly low i dont' have always the time to mark position in my mind/map, so when i see briefly something i just drop a smoke and take some altitude, so when i come back to attack i have a clear position of the ennemy Have fun, the game is so great without label - play mouse and cat ! AhSoul Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 I agree with you completely. However I do wonder that until I've got a better screen I might be at too much of a disadvantage? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Soul's pit thread

AhSoul Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Isn't zooming also cheating? Or do the pilots have binoculars on their helmets? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Soul's pit thread

IonicRipper Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 ^ This Either way, real life pilots aren't forced to look for targets on 1920x1080 resolution screens. The way I see it, Zooming is just like focusing on a specific point IRL. i5 4590 @ 3.77GHz | GTX 1060 6GB | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 | 1TB HDD+500GB HDD | Win10 Home X64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Eddie Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Someone stated at one time pilots will carry binoculars in the cockpit... Not all the time, and not all aircraft types or air forces. But yes, even today gyro stabilised binoculars are carried on some missions. During air ops over Libya in 2011 even Typhoon pilots (with all the aircraft's sensors) went up with gyro stabilised binoculars on some A/G sorties (those without pre determined/fixed targets).
WildBillKelsoe Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 1. Radio calls at bulls XXX for YYY where XXX is the bearing and YYY is the range. 2. Briefing: almost any mission tells you where the targets are/ expected to be. 3. Eye outside the cockpit. To this, I suggest you try the Su-25 Frogfoot as it will hone your skills in getting visual on ground targets and eliminate some of the perks the A-10C has for outside view. 4. TAD cakes. RIFLE_JTAC_TRAINING Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Realistically these missions would be intelligence driven or a type 3 control where a said area would be investigated and prosecuted with direction. At the end of the day Hawg pilots can have binos and your sitting in a titanium bath tub. Get low, get slow and look for whats sticks out and moves. I always fly around in a lazy W looking left and right so your always banking ready to dive for speed and evade. Know where your outs are at all times. PFunk1606688187 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Default FOV in game does not represent real human visual acuity. It doesn't even represent complete peripheral vision, unless you have a band of monitors wrapping around your desk. If you were to set your in game FOV to allow you to see everything a human can peripherally you'd be completely incapable of reading the instruments. Even default FOV makes reading the HUD on most typical resolutions difficult. Achieving a believable clarity of HUD symbology as well as ground objects leads to a tight FOV thats almost impossible to fly with, but allows for effective spotting. This is before we get into zooming beyond this FOV to achieve binocular levels of magnifications. Whats more, to achieve the kind of zoom that binoculars would give a pilot involves editing game files to increase the max FOV you can achieve. Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.
Nealius Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I wonder if it will ever be possible for a computer screen to represent human visual acuity.
AhSoul Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 I'd have thought hi-res 3D glasses would be good for this sort of thing.... Thanks to everyone for the tips so far :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Soul's pit thread
