DCS level Tempest...drool. How i wish we could have it instead of Spit IX. Or them both.

Hawker Tempest Mk V is my dream aircraft for DCS :joystick:

I second that wish big time. It is an aircraft that tends to get overlooked, which is a great shame.

Happy landings,

In fairness, tank kills were by rockets although not as high in number as folklore claims although broken tracks stopped them. However, the rockets and the cannons certainly tore up the other vehicles and often forced the army to abandon their vehicles/convoys which had pretty much the required effect as the softer troop and support vehicles were then wiped out.

Just found this:

To support the D-Day invasion the Royal Air Force formed the 2nd Tactical Air Force, which among other aircraft contained 18 squadrons of Hawker Typhoons. During the first five days of June 1944, the Typhoons put out of action all but one of the coastal radar installations on the Normandy coast. On D-Day itself, June 6, 1944, the nearest German armored formation to the invasion beaches—the 21st Panzer Division—was attacked continuously by Typhoons, suffering 26 destroyed or abandoned tanks. As a result, only six panzers and a handful of infantry made it near enough the coast to menace the Allied landings. Once the beachhead was secured, the Typhoon units were tasked with providing close air support to the British 2nd Army. While performing this job, Typhoons, in conjunction with Mitchel Light Bombers, obliterated the command center of Panzergruppe West, the headquarters which controlled all the German armored forces in Normandy.

The difference between a game and real life. In DCS only a kill counts, in real life hampering ( such an underwhelming word to describe death and destruction) enemy operations was just as, if not more important. Although every pilot would like to claim a kill, tank crews were't going to hang about to test any half baked theories about penetration values. Any Allied aircraft flying overhead was potentially leathal, even if it wasn't. Rockets or even badly placed bombs rattle the nerves, if not the armour plating. Nobody was going to expose themselves, even to 0.5 cal willingly, just in case something heavier and nastier followed or just in case the mosquito had bigger nastier friends waiting in the wings. I wonder how many perfectly serviceable Tanks in Normandy were abandoned by terrified, demoralized, crews not wanting to test Lady Luck one more time.

Well said! :)

I suspect that (IRL) having bits of metal pinging off the metal box one is sitting in is not the most conducive to maintaining one's morale...

Wonder, how the MK IX of the spitfire will compare with the P51-D? I have read on other forums that in real world if you have to compare a spitfire to a mustang you should compare the P51-D with the spitfire MK XIV. The MK IX is older.

Thanks

Can someone remind me of the rate of climb of the DCS K4?

Unfortunately I am abroad so I can't look myself :(

We can expect the IX to be over 4000ft/m, some sources put it at over 4500ft/m which will put it in the same court as the 109.
