DOWNLOAD This skin is based on Slovakia's digital camouflage paint scheme implemented on their Mig-29's. It's my first real skin for BS, so forgive me for any hickups. File is ready to be installed with Modman, headache free. Instructions are in the readme. Background These images of a real Slovak Mig-29 with the digital camo paint job were my reference/inspiration. More: http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9941/mig29gooddigikf2.jpg http://www.hyperstealth.com/Mig29/index.html http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/Digital-Thunder-Camo-for-Slovakias-MiG-29s-04814/ Screenshots Where's waldo? (alright its not that good :P ) *Final version features small black tail numbers instead of large side numbering.2 points

It looks like I could add the keyboard shortcuts to all the tooltips in the cockpit, like the following picture. I am wondering if anyone would be interested...? Best regards,2 points

Windows 7 preliminary testing Windows 7 Preliminary testing in BlackShark has some very interesting results! Remember the run I posted above for 3.06 GHz? Well, no need to go look up there for it. . .here it is: Windows XP E8400 @ 3.06 GHz (speedstep enabled) DX9.0c 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 850Mhz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 178.24 drivers Frames: 16232 - Time: 480193ms - Avg: 33.803 - Min: 5 - Max: 61 The following is the same run, but in Windows 7 (64 bit), with DirectX11, all other settings the same ( more than 2 gigs of RAM doesn't appear to make a difference in BS): Windows7 core 0 E8400 @ 3.06 GHz (speedstep enable) D11 2x2gigs PC8500 at 850Mhz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 178.24 drivers Frames: 13802 - Time: 480225ms - Avg: 28.740 - Min: 7 - Max: 60 So that's not so great. . .at this point it's not looking very good for Windows 7. . .but it's supposed to run like a better version of Vista, which supposedly is strong in Black Shark. . .so what gives? Ahhh, the CPU affinity trick you say?? Well, lets see if that makes up the lost performance! For this run, settings are the same, only I enable both CPU cores in the taskmanager: Windows7 core 0+1 core E8400 @ 3.06 GHz (speedstep enabled) DX11 2x2gigs PC8500 at 850Mhz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 178.24 drivers Frames: 21729 - Time: 480340ms - Avg: 45.236 - Min: 23 - Max: 62 So umm. . . can you say AWESOME?!??!!!?! Not only did I get the lost performance back, but I set something of a record for this benchmark on my machine! If you take a look at my previously posted Windows XP run at the same settings the best I managed was - Avg: 42.185 - Min: 10 - Max: 62 and that was overclocked to 3.9 GHz!!!!!! Even my runs at 3.960GHz with 2x2Gigs of PC8500 RAM at 1100MHz, only averaged: 44.439fps in XP. . .so simply running Windows 7, and using both CPU cores gave me .8 avg fps better performance at a stock 3.06 Ghz than at nearly 4.0 GHz in 32 bit Windows XP!! I can't wait to see what it does at 3.96 GHz!!! Well, yeah I can, I need to sleep now that it's 6:30 am!!!! :music_whistling: [Edit to add the results from the 3.96 GHz runs] Windows XP 32 E8400 @ 3.960GHz 2x2Gigs of PC8500 RAM at 1100MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks vSynch and triple buff on on 178.24 drivers Frames: 21281 - Time: 480107ms - Avg: 44.439 - Min: 10 - Max: 63 Windows7 (64) core 0+1 E8400 @ 3.960GHz 2x2Gigs of PC8500 RAM at 1100MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 178.24 drivers vSynch ON Frames: 26647 - Time: 480074ms - Avg: 55.506 - Min: 27 - Max: 62 Windows7 (64) core 0+1 E8400 @ 3.960GHz 2x2Gigs of PC8500 RAM at 1100MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 178.24 drivers vSynch OFF Frames: 28235 - Time: 479994ms - Avg: 58.823 - Min: 32 - Max: 93 Impressive results no? Under the same conditions I had an increase of 11.1 frames per second better on average when overclocked to 3.96 1100MHz DDR2, and 14.4 frames per second better when vSynch and triple buffering are forced off in the driver control panel (the normal way in which benchmarks are run). Perhaps most impressive is the minimum fps. . .they are almost as good as the average fps at stock clocks!!!! My track really killed the fps in a flew places on XP, but with 7, and both CPU cores, that's gone!!!!! Also, I am using drivers that are not technically compatible with WIndows 7 in the interest of running the same driver as I'd used previously. Next I'll try the driver MS suggests, and perhaps the 185 series beta that shows big gains in many titles.2 points

hi guys, Just finished this latest mission which is intended as a single player mission. This is intended to be a scramble - jumping into a cold/dark cockpit with the clock working against you to stop a terrorist threat. Time is limited and the opposing forces you face changes randomly. I'll paste the briefing below. While this mission is intended to be a Cold/Dark start, I have also included a Hot start up and running version. You can download one or both at this link: http://public.me.com/ronht enjoy ron Over the last several months insurgent groups have been threatening to contaminate the reservoir north of Dzhvari. These threats, if successful, would have a devastating effect throughout the entire valley as all the surrounding cities rely on the resources contained within the reservoir. Today, it appears that threat has become a reality. A skirmish has taken place with authorities within the last hour on the northern skirts of Dzhvari and again with security forces at the dam. The conflict north of the city resulted in several dead and we are currently unable to contact security forces stationed at the dam. We have two security forces heading for the damn now but they will not arrive in time to turn back the terrorist threat. Witnesses have reported a bus escorted by a heavily armed group heading up the dam highway. It is believed the bus and truck are filled with toxic chemicals and the insurgents are going to carry out their threat. They MUST be stopped before reaching the dam! SCRAMBLE - SCRAMBLE - SCRAMBLE!!! You are to launch immediately, there is no time to re-fuel your Ka50 or re-arm your wingman. You must make every attempt to stop the insurgents before they reach the dam. A spotter team will call updates on the position of the bus. Primary targets are a white and blue civilian bus and other vehicles that are traveling together up the dam highway. The dam highway is heavily traveled, however, because this is a dire situation you are cleared HOT on all traffic on the dam highway. While we want to sustain as little collateral damage as possible, civilian losses have been accepted as a possible result of this operation. Be advised the insurgents have been reported to have mobile SAM's and are using civilian automobiles to transport personnel equipped with manpads. Your wingman is armed only with gunpods and your fuel load is minimal, however, there is no time to waste! Use your wingman in "Over watch" formation or in any capacity you deem necessary and stop those vehicles! Get Going and Good Luck!1 point

OK packaged up now only 12mb in size! Readme included. http://www.xeos.co.uk/Runway_OLD_Concrete_V1.2.rar I should point out that whilst my friend "discovered" this "feature" Experienced modders may already be fully aware! However.. I did try doing all this through Modman and Modman despite pre-compressing the textures to DDS format, extracted them back to bmps and they were actually larger than the original bmps! MODMAN COMPLIANT VERSION: (Thanks to Skypat for his help) http://www.xeos.co.uk/Runway_OLD_Concrete_V1.2_MODMAN.rar Please note that the Modman version might have a slightly higher memory overhead.1 point

I didn't think it's as simple as 'everyone's computer would come to a standstill' though there would probably be a hit, but perhaps as much that you'd lose a big chunk of the graphics scalability during online play. Say you have a great computer & fly with full graphics - loads of trees. Now you go online & fly against s/one w/ a minimum spec machine - lower graphics settings, hardly any trees. Who's collision model do you use ? Do you have it that the minimum spec player take what appears to be a 'clear' shot only to have the round/missile explode in mid-air on a tree that only exists on the other player's machine?, or that that only some of the trees in the higher spec'd players world are 'solid' (?) - how do they tell which ones ? Maybe you could put a collision 'box' around all forested areas, but then there's no hiding in the forests - or sending units in there at all, individual trees around buildings would still be as they are, and players with graphics turned down would be forced to fly above treetop hight even outside of forests in case there's a forest collision box that they can't see because they have most trees turned off.1 point

Файл DCS\Config\MonitorSetup\Shkval+Camera+ABRIS.lua (для 16:10): Description = 'Camera, small Shkval and ABRIS on one widescreen monitor' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; - x = 3 * screen.width / 10; y = 0; width = 7 * screen.width / 10; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 7 * screen.aspect / 10; } } Shkval = { x = 7 * screen.width / 10; - x = 0; y = 0; width = 3 * screen.width / 10; height = 9 * screen.height / 25; } ABRIS = { x = 7 * screen.width / 10; - x = 0; y = 9 * screen.height / 25; width = 3 * screen.width / 10; height = 16 * screen.height / 25; } По умолчанию Шквал и АБРИС справа.

Well, then you could probably load up Lomac, which is far more realistic when it comes to air-to-air than SimCopter comes to realistic SAR. This is just a silly argument. Just think of the new dimension it would add to DCS if you can be a combat chopper pilot doing troop insertions, rescue operations, recognizance missions, etc. I believe many people in this forum enjoys AVIATION as much as blowing up things. And CSAR missions needs much more piloting skills in terms of FLYING than standard CAS missions.1 point

It's not just for an FPS increase you should get a better sound card, it's for the sound! Why most people think they can live with on board sound is beyond me. It's like going to a games player and saying you can live with onboard graphics.1 point

... as I said, these issues don't belong here. I do not expect you to share my political perspective, and I should not have to accept that yours is the only perspective. I have lost family because of political short-sightedness ... the first step of healing and over-coming hatred is to attempt to make some humane contact ... I have no love for your military, but I would like to change my perspective of the people of the U.S. ... as ordinary living people. That is all ... apologies for de-railling this thread.1 point

The mouse should be slaved to the cockpit, not the view. That way you can look around freely while the mouse remains static, precisely placed over a cockpit switch. This really should be compulsory for clickable cockpits. I'm actually surprised ED haven't done it yet!1 point
-
I'd like that, too. Mostly you study the manual and key-list to program your HOTAS, but in this simulation I got used to flipping switches, but some still have to be implemented on my HOTAS, because you simply learn that you push some buttons more often than others. I'm just to lazy to search the functions, so yes, that would be very supportive, maybe not for standard-playing, but very much for learning and optimizing programmed input-devices!1 point

Yes. But, I understand if you deactivate one of the installs you get an activation back. If you don't have Vista installed I don't think you can install Windows 7 Beta.1 point
-
Deactivate the XP copy first and use the deactivation code when you activate in W7. Then, when you're done with W7 deactivate again and use the code to re-activate in WinXP. You shouldn't lose an activation this way. You also can't play both at the same time either.1 point

Available here: (limited time) Sorry guys. Spotted some issues with v1.0. Changes: V1.2 Massively reduced the RAM texture overhead (probably) and file size More info here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=614473&postcount=60 V1.1 Improved connection seam between runway start (WPP-KRAY) and main runway (WPP) Changed border of runway to gravel (with a little moss) to allow for other seasons (forgot seasons! DOH!). Added gravel border to start of runway. A few other minor changes to WPP_KRAY and WPP textures. Note: Cover picture doesn't reflect changes. When it happens, the first thing I notice is that the laser doesn't fire anymore. It's on standby, all system working normally, but it just stops working. After that point, in only fires when in the OFF position. The Vickers can't be fired. Laser ranging works when at the OFF position, but I never get the fire authorization (and if fired manually, there is no guidance). If I range it, switch the laser to STBY, the weapon system behaves like if the ranging is disabled, still don't get an authorization.1 point

Driver level settings, and in game settings were kept constant with only one exception for the 512 vs 1024mb cockpit texture comparison. ***************CPU Overclock scaling in Black Shark*************** It is clear that Black Shark is sensitive to CPU clock speeds. Over the range of speeds I tested, I observed a rather linear increase in both minimum as well as average frame rate as CPU clock speed increases. In this case, a 300 MHz increase in CPU speed gains approximately 2.8 average frames per second from 3GHz on up to 3.9. Raw data: E8400 @ 3.06 GHz (speedstep enabled) 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 850Mhz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. In fact this GPU OC only nets .231 average fps better! Note that while I've got 8X Anisotropic Filtering running, I'm only using 2XAA - which is just fine at a higher resolution like 1920x1200. There really aren't any jaggies to speak of, and I think that getting rid of jaggies via resolution instead of adding blur of antialiasing looks better in sims (especially the cockpit). At higher AA settings perhaps the video card OC would show a little more of a change. The minimum frame rate is 1 fps better – however it would take many runs to confirm that this since it only takes one dip to create this data, while the average should be quite accurate over 8 minute runs. Raw data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks 670 core 972 memory 1674 shaders. Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) Overclocked to 700 core 1000 memory 1748 shaders. Frames: 19096 - Time: 479965ms - Avg: 39.786 - Min: 9 - Max: 62 ***************Cockpit texture Resolution 1024 vs 512*************** Here we see that setting cockpit textures to 512mb instead of 1024 improves average fps by only 0.219 fps on this system! Raw Data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, “Resolution of Cockpit Textures” set to 512 Frames: 19079 - Time: 479674ms - Avg: 39.774 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks “Resolution of Cockpit Textures” set to 1024 Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 ***************Two Cores vs One Core in Black Shark – Windows XP Pro 32*************** Allowing DCS to run on both cores instead of one resulted in an average increase of 1.07 fps Raw Data: E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, CPU core affinity for DCS.EXE set to core 0. Frames: 18977 - Time: 479752ms - Avg: 39.555 - Min: 8 - Max: 62 E8400 @ 3.6GHz 2x1Gigs of PC8000 RAM at 1,000MHz, 8800GTS (G92) at stock clocks, but core 0 and 1 set to DCS.EXE. Frames: 19497 - Time: 479911ms - Avg: 40.626 - Min: 6 - Max: 62 ***************Conclusion*************** So in summary we see that Black Shark, like most Flight Simulators, is highly dependant on CPU clock speeds, and any increase in CPU clocks will lead to a noticable frame rate increase. On the other hand, video card overclocks, had minimal impact on performance, and neither did changing between 512mb and 1024 mb cockpit texture settings. . .at least on my machine. On lower end machines the 1024 textures might be a more obvious decrease in performance. For users with Core2Duo machines or similar, these settings are hardly worth worrying about, and the same can be said for the video card OC as the difference in each case was approximately 2/10ths of a frame!! We do see that it might be worth it to set the DCS.EXE to use both cores instead of one, even for Xp users. While there is a 2fps lower minimum frame rate, it’s clear that overall we have improved performance with both cores running – though only by a little over 1 frame per second. S!
