Yes, I am working on such a page. Though it isn't finished yet, here's a picture that says more than a thousand words: Shown here are the percentages of the weapons that killed (blue), hit (green) or missed (red) their target. At the right the number of weapons fired is shown. This data is compiled from the 3153 missiles that were fired on the 51st server since August 1st, 2010, leading to some 570 kills. This plot is not entirely appropriate for the debate whether or not one missile is better at killing a target than another, so instead I made this table: +-----------------+------+-------+-------+ | weapon | hits | kills | ratio | +-----------------+------+-------+-------+ | AIM-120B | 50 | 33 | 66.0 | | AIM-120C | 266 | 156 | 58.6 | | AIM-7M | 7 | 7 | 100.0 | | AIM-9M | 56 | 44 | 78.6 | | R-27EM (AA-10C) | 29 | 18 | 62.1 | | R-27ER (AA-10C) | 181 | 112 | 61.9 | | R-27ET (AA-10D) | 135 | 89 | 65.9 | | R-27R (AA-10A) | 10 | 7 | 70.0 | | R-60M (AA-8) | 11 | 6 | 54.5 | | R-73 (AA-11) | 88 | 54 | 61.4 | | R-77 (AA-12) | 82 | 46 | 56.1 | +-----------------+------+-------+-------+ This shows the total number of hits, and the number of hits that killed for each weapon. The important number here is the ratio of kills/hits, which gives you the frequency of a missile killing its target. The higher this ratio the better the missile is. It also is not polluted by players emptying a full complement of missiles into thin air. You'll see that for the missiles that are discussed here the ratios are not that different. AIM-120B is highest at 66.0% (still small number statistics though), while the C is lowest at 58.6%. The ER is in the middle with 61.9%. Based on the numbers I would argue that no player will notice this difference.3 points

Within the scope of this topic, there is no such thing as a "direct hit" really. I know people have probably watched that history channel program where an israeli heater (or was it in vietnam? I forget.) literally flew up the tailpipe of a MiG-21, but the reality is that missiles have proximity fuses for a reason. The same reason why the THAAD anti-ICBM missile and it's "kinetic kill" method was impressive. Depends on what kind of damage I have sustained and what the tactical situation is. Durin a training session a couple days ago I kept my badly hit (by an AIM-120C) Eagle in the fight in spite of losing hydraulics and such things since I had two very capable enemies around, and my wing-lead engaged in BFM. Turned out (during the debrief) that the guy who nailed me with his 120C had reported me as a splash, so for a critical amount of time they thought they were dealing with a 2v1 in their favor. Similarly, I've seen tonnes of times where even AI Flankers and Migs have killed me because I was silly enough to think that the splash I saw meant they were out of the fight. They weren't, and they told me so with an ER. (See my profile "location"... ;) ) Also, while this isn't really relevant to this type of topic - remember that this is an aircraft that has been landed with only one wing. :P Like GG said - Track, not ACMI. Also, there is nothing magical about missiles. A missile exploding in the vicinity of a fighter aircraft doesn't mean that life is a boolean. The fighter may or may not sustain critical damage, same way gun hits may or may not be critical. A hit in the wing section, tearing a whole right through it, may only deteriorate flight performance and cause unhealthy kerosene leakage. A hit directly in a fuel tank... Hyperbole. The incident mentioned was a 120C exploding real close, and my bird was very badly damanged. But the damage didn't halt flight - it just meant I had one fin half-removed, fuel leaks from the wings, no hydraulics and further leaks from one engine. I later crashed while trying to land it as a glider. But while fuel remained in my hull there's nothing strange in my undamanged front and mid sections (housing radar, missiles etc) being able to operate. But the important thing here is: if you want to say that this is something particular to a specific weapon or specific aircraft, I expect numbers. And I expect test conditions that control for aspect and such variables. Anecdotal evidence in either direction is just worthless. It is worse than worthless since it is often subject to any of the following: Ideologi. Fanboyism. Confirmation Bias. Conspiration theory. Romanticism. ...and several less flattering possibilities that can apply to either camp.2 points

Status - June 13 2014 The NTTR map is essentially done. We are now waiting for EDGE to be incorporated into DCS and set up the a new file structure that will be required to support multiple maps. --- Why develop a map centered on the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR)? The map originally started as a third party project with no input from Eagle Dynamics. However, as we started to develop DCS: A-10C, we realized that this map could serve as a great location for the A-10C training missions. To make this happen, we officially partnered with the third party team to help make this happen. We were so confident in this endeavor that we included a very early version as part of the original A-10C beta. Unfortunately, due to several reasons, the third party team dissolved and Eagle was left holding the bag of a promised NTTR map to customers that had purchased it as part of A-10C. After taking over the project, it soon became apparent that the current TFCSE engine was incapable of running the map at the desired quality levels vs. performance. In order to realize this map as first envisioned, an entirely new image generator would be required... this later became a key element of the Eagle Dynamics Graphics Engine (EDGE). Building a new IG is never an easy or fast task and EDGE has proved no different. However, the NTTR map as provided an excellent test bed for the new map rendering technologies of EDGE. So, all that being said, the NTTR was developed for the following reasons: 1- For training missions of western aircraft. 2- To honor A-10C beta purchases. 3- Allow creation of Red Flag type missions centered on the NTTR. 4- EDGE technology test bed. --- NOTE: None of this is 100% official. This is me helping you putting information into one spot. What is EDGE? EDGE, dubbed internally, Eagle Dynamic Graphic Engine, is a new Image Generator (IG) built from the ground up that allowed for numerous benefits to the DCS environment. What is the Image Generator (IG) people keep mentioning? An Image Generator (IG) is another way of describing what EDGE is. Image Generator (IG) is a generic term for something that generates the images on your screen. EDGE a self coined term by c0ff to describe the Image Generator (IG) and is simply an acronym. When will EDGE be released? Since EDGE is built from scratch, it will take time to incorporate all the elements that are needed to make it playable at acceptable frame rates. What are the benefits to EDGE? · EDGE allows for Direct X 11 support · Dynamic shadowing of the terrain and mountains · Clipmap support · Higher object count · Higher resolution ground terrain mesh · More detailed tree models · Better graphical effects · High resolution road textures · Ability for road signs and light signals · Additional ground clutter (rocks, cactuses, etc.) Will the Black Sea map in its current form work with EDGE benefits? Somewhat. Since the technology behind EDGE is dramatically different, down to the tools that create it, terrain needs to be built with the EDGE benefits in mind. This is a HUGE undertaking and not an easy task to redo something. HOWEVER, it has been stated that the Black Sea map is not going anywhere. It will still work with EDGE, just not gain all the benefits that a newer map create with EDGE might. Are there maps in progress that take advantage of EDGE? Yes, the first map to take advantage of EDGE is Nevada. The developers of DCS: WWII have said their map will take advantage of EDGE technology. How far along is the Nevada map? It has been stated that the Nevada map is mostly done but work remains to finish the underlying EDGE engine. If the Nevada map is mostly done, why not post some screenshots to the community? EDGE is the underlying core of the Nevada map. If EDGE is in a state where it is not capable of running or showing off its potential, (bad frames, no anti-alisting/ ‘jaggies’, etc), screenshots might not be possible. How big is the Nevada map? At present, the current public information is that the map will be 360 x 360 km that will include Las Vegas, Groom Lake, Nellis, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam. - Info on the map size - http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1902741&postcount=4 What is the texture resolution of the Nevada map? Per an official update post: "The immediate areas around the three airbases use 1 meter texture resolution. The outlying areas of the map are 16 meter resolution, and the areas in between are between 2 and 4 meter resolution." Will EDGE/ Nevada cost anything? EDGE is rendering engine, so no. It has been stated that the plan is still for the Nevada map to be free for users who pre-ordered DCS: A-10C Warthog beta. So what will Nevada cost if I did not pre-order? See Below How will I switch between maps? When creating a new mission, the authors can specify what map to use. This feature is already implemented but there is only the current map. Typical questions that do not have answers: Will trees be collidable? Are the creation tools going to be made available to the public? What is the cost of Nevada if I did not pre-order DCS: A10C? When will new screenshots be posted? When will it be released? --- June 2013 Work On New Rendering Technology Continues The new Image Generator (IG) technology is currently in development and will be introduced to DCS World when it is ready. Elements of the new IG include: - More detailed terrain. - Better graphical effects - Dedicated server - DirectX 11 support - Skeleton animation for infantry --- A few items to reiterate: 1- Much of the Nevada map is done, but aspects of it could certainly change between now and release. 2- The original effort was done by a third party, but for various reasons, that effort did not work out and the Eagle team basically had to re-start it from scratch. 3- Due to the massive number of ground objects, elevation mesh detail, and texture sizes, a new image generator (IG) had to to be created in order to run it at more than single digit frame rates. Creating a new IG is a huge undertaking and it takes a lot of time. More so than anything else, this has been the reason behind the delay. 4- There has been no change in our plan to make this map available for free to those that purchased the A-10C beta. 5- Given the nature of the map, I would imagine that most missions will revolve around training, but certainly large Red Flag type campaigns are also possible. 6- We have no ETA at this time. New Cloud Options for EDGE: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1900599&postcount=2 When there is a change to any of the above, there will be official news of it.1 point

As always, excellent work Case. What would also be worth knowing is launches vs hits & kills. There we'll see the spamming vs sniper effect - if there is such a thing. nb. In an earlier post someone mentioned milliseconds for radar. You are three orders of magnitude too high. Light moves 3 m per nanosecond in a vacuum (and essentially the same speed in the atmosphere). To travel 30 km and back is 2 microseconds. Of course there is additional processing time and integration time as multiple pulses are accumulated. But the timescale is short. So, next time prove by doing the math please instead of wildly speculating (which is largely what this thread is about). @GGT: Your 'wet dream' page can be done with the server exports just not with the debrief log that Case (and myself) are using. We just haven't got around to pulling that information out of the export logs yet.1 point

Incorrect; you in fact know nothing, but we'll address that a little later. A lot, being what ... specifically for the F-15, an IFF HUD cue, and missiles that are actually dangerous? Do you consider two things 'a lot'? ;) In fact, scratch the missiles- all missiles were updated with this in mind. Made you sick? Oh, poor you. Beyond imagination? ... How about a dose of reality here ... the F-15 only received a single update specific to itself, and that was the IFF HUD cue. It doesn't even have most basic radar modes or automation modeled. Not that it's different for other planes, but hey, since we're focusing ... I certainly understand your un-adulterated bias :) You can see whatever you like, but you'll be wrong. There was no 'fanboy crying' affecting ED's decisions. ED oversaw adjustment of missiles with input from various community members, including the Russian side (DUH!) and most importantly DOCUMENTATION ... including the most solid information that could be found regarding each missile in the game; missiles were then tuned to perform WITHIN THE LIMITATIONS OF THEIR PHYSICS ENGINE. Really, I'd have loved to see more complex missile modeling, but it isn't in the cards. And really, a brand spanking new (by comparison), modern missile, equivalent to an R-27? Seriously. What's next, we'll be saying that AIM-9M > R-73?1 point
-
OK, so there was a way of changing values in order to customize bomb footprints so I wonder if same can be done with AIM-120 to bring it down to more realistic values? I know that F-15C fanboy's cries prevailed with ED and it can be clearly seen in FC2.0, however there's this thing that's been hanging on the tip of everybody's tongue and we had numerous discussions on that subject - balance vs realism - but in fact ballance is realism at least in Cold War era. We must focus on where we are today and where we want our FC2.0 timeframe to be placed, is it '80s, early or late '90, or we're in 21st century? For instance, F-15C received a lot of "upgrades" in FC2.0 some say it's still a basic Charlie Eagle but hey, looking at payloads it's a 21st century Eagle people fly in MP. I only see A and C AMRAAMs hanging, no Sparrows anymore. In addition to that ED pimped up those AMRAAMs to make it even more supreme and player friendly... The main reason that dragged me into buying ED/SSL Flanker 15 years ago was the chance to fly notorious Soviet superiority fighter, it was quite unaccesible during my childhood, you could only hear about it but contacts with it were very rare although it was mass produced and there was a paranoid word that there's hundreds maybe thousands of them built and ready to sweep entire western Europe and advance over Atlantic... On the other hand good planes like F-14, F-15 and F-16 were all over the place...in movies (Top Gun, Iron Eagle etc.), in TV commercials, music...it really made me sick back then... ...and now you're pimping it up beyond imagination?!! ED should rather focus on creating a F-22 Raptor and placing it in game somewere in the future, it's another notch on realism scale but hell of a lot more solid than unrealistic Eagles... Just my 2 cents here, but you've gotta understand my point... I'll see what can be done with decreasing AIM-120 explosives and burst range at least making it equal to Alamo A or C. I know I won't pass many integrity checks with that edit but what the hell, many servers should make similar adjustments in order to remain interesting. Cheers!1 point

Nothing you can datalink is actually stored in the ABRIS and nothing in the ABRIS can be sent via datalink. The ABRIS is just an off the shelf commercial device bolted into the dash well after the design left Kamov's collective drafting desk. You can only save ABRIS routes to HDD when in the special mission editor (not the planner) mode designed for that purpose. It's just there for mission editors to pre-populate the ABRIS memory with flight details when making a mission. Sim pilots don't have access to it. To share a waypoint route with it's best to do it in flight planning before taking off. Otherwise I guess you could: 1. Look up the Lat/Long position of each point in the ABRIS display 2. Enter them as NAVTGT points into the PVI-800. 3. Send these points as DL points over the VHF datalink.* *I'm pretty sure there's a way to save DL points onto PNK memory as NAVTGT or even WPT type once received. 4. Have the receiving pilot define a route from the ABRIS display of datalink points. Or you could just read out the Lat/Long points over the radio as the wingman is in route creation mode. Since the ABRIS AMMS doesn't have a datacard or similar that's what you'd do in real life except it'd be before flight and the wingman would enter the data from a paper card into the unit and save it to database.1 point

While it is possible to change and actually store ABRIS Nav routes to your Hard Drive, I can't see in the manual where you can send the entire Nav Route via datalink (although that would be cool!). Section 7 is very detailed regarding the ABRIS, and there's tons of cool stuff that you can do with it. The best that I can suggest is to use the Ingress Points to share with your wingman via Data Link. You would have to keep adjusting your points once you reach the designated area, but it's a useful tool when you're spread apart from your wingmen and you want them to either find you, or go a different route due to SAM activity, etc. The procedure is in section 11 of the manual. Hope this helps!1 point
