  1. Aaaaap! Put that flight stick down and finish reading the manual! You'll thank yourself later! If I hear one person in multi-player ask what key resets trim, I'm going to track you down and beat you with my HOTAS cable. I just pre purchased and I'm reading the manual now. I'm a 39 year old business intelligence consultant with two teenage boys. I'm usually described as 'stoic'. As I realized how complete the A-10C is in this simulation, I jumped up and belted out an excited cackle/giggle/scream that echoed out of my study and through my home. My family came running, probably thinking it was the apocalypse. I haven't been this excited since I got my first Erector Set back in the 70s. Sweet funky Moses! I'm going to finish the manual before I even fire it up. The anticipation is intoxicating. Like that first 'strap' you'd ever tried to undo. It's boggling and clumsy, and you know something better is to come, but you have to stop and revel in the moment... as it is oh so sweet! RTFM boys.. a little technical foreplay will make the flightgasm much more spectacular. Why? .. further explanation ... Update One Week Later.. my sweet reward for RTFM! .

  3. I cannot. And since you are bragging so much about how much you would like to pay, I'm awaiting your serial key in my PM box. I'm downloading DCS-WH as I type this in anticipation of your PM. Feel free to send more serial keys, as none of my buddies cannot afford it. Alternatively, I will to take your 200 USD, and as soon as funds arrive at my account, I will send YOU one serial key. Thanks in advance.

  5. UPDATED 03/15/2011 I thought it would be good to post here my approach to configure the X-52 in this sim since many people could be new to it and could use it as a starting point. Attached to this post are 2 files: the Saitek .pr0 profile and the DCS A-10C .lua profile. Also you can see in the pictures below the controls arrangement. Note that the italic commands are executed in conjunction with the pinky switch located in the base of the control stick. This profile is optimized for TrackIR users. You may want to replace some functions with the camera panning commands if you don't own one. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW CAREFULLY TO AVOID TROUBLE. All the steps are simple, you just have to pay attention to not screw anything up. INSTRUCTIONS 1) To load the .lua profile: Open up A-10C options screen, controls. Select any cell in the Saitek X-52 column. Click "Load Profile" on top and point to the .lua file. Beware that if you leave selected a cell from other controller (e.g. keyboard, mouse, etc) you will overwrite that controller definition with the .lua file, so double check before you confirm the changes. In any case, backup the Config/Input folder, in the case you need to revert the changes. 2) To load the .pr0 profile: Copy the .pr0 file to the Saitek profiles folder (in my case is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Saitek SD6 Profiles). The profile should appear in the right-click menu of the Saitek taskbar icon. Right click the Saitek taskbar icon and ensure the "SFJackBauer A-10C" item is clicked. 3) Configure the speed brake slider: Inside DCS A-10C, change the "HOTAS Speed brake switch forward" keyboard key to "N", and the "HOTAS Speed brake switch aft" keyboard key to "B". This enables the use of the slider as a speedbrake controller (check pic below). If you open up a chat textbox, and it is spammed with BBBBBBB or NNNNNNN keys, then remember to set back the slider to the center position :). Tips * Use the Cockpit illumination switch (T4) for dark ramp-starts. * The buttons in the throttle LCD alone give access to the radios. When used with the pinky, are useful to switch between the flight plan and markpoints. * Use T5 and T6 to light up your engines. * The mousewheel behind the throttle gives access to the NVG functions, when combined with the pinky. * You can use the "i" (clutch) button in the throttle to command your voice chat program as I do. To do that you need to disable the clutch functionality in the Control panel -> Joysticks, and assign a key to the clutch button inside the Saitek Profile Editor. Your feedback and testing is warmly welcomed! ENJOY!!!! :pilotfly: SFJackBauer A-10C X-52 Profile.zip

  6. I guess the next one coming to the table will be the Vergeev Group campaign; however, I was wondering if there are any other new robust, immersive, and realistic SP campaigns out there? The Missions/Campaigns Directory has not been updated since April 6 with "Dogs of War." Currently, I have the following: GOW Republic Georgian Havoc Deployment Burning River Vergeev Demo thx!

  7. Hi, I'm wondering,if landing the A10 in real-life is that easy like in the sim. I have the feeling, I can land this bird nearly everywhere with bad angles and high speeds without any or at least serious damage. Compared to FC it is a night and day differnce to me. Perhaps it is because of beta-state, or is the A10 really that rugged? ps.: The flight-model seems wonderfull to me and I'm so happy, ED has put out the beta allready, so please don't get me wrong - I was just a bit surprised about the landing like it is simulated right now.

  11. Mission editor is pretty easy to use. Here's a quick run down that'll give you something to shoot: Open the editor up and find an airfield, they're pretty easy to identify. Next put some enemies somewhere near by. To do this just hit the tank button, set the country to Russia (or whatever, something not US since you don't want to kill your own guys), click the mouse where you want that unit. The window is still open (if not click on your newly placed unit). Next select unit type. I'd say stick with something like a Ural or UAZ because they're unarmed. Go for a BRDM if you want more of a challenge, they have guns. Stay away from anything that shows a blue circle as that's the blue circle of death and you probably don't want to deal with that (it's an AAA or SAM unit). Now for the hog. Push the airplane button and click the mouse on the airfield you want. On the options side switch the plane to an A-10 and the AI to "player" (it should be a list that says different AI difficulties like rookie and such). There are a few more things you can play with here but look down towards 'waypoints' or something like that. There's a menu with a few buttons inside the menu for the airplane itself and this will let you set multiple things. This first menu is for waypoints. Set the current waypoint (where you placed your plane) to "Take off from runway" or "Take off from ramp" if you want to go through all the start up. Next click next to the enemy. A big line should have appeared and this should be your second waypoint. If not then click the airplane you put in game, look at the waypoint controls, click "add" then click next to the enemy. Now click back over by the airfield to add another waypoint, set it to "landing". OK, so that's done, now you'll need some stuff to drop on the enemy. One of those buttons on that little menu inside the plane menu allows you to select armament. I think it looks like a crosshair but I can't remember. Just click through until you find it, you won't hurt anything and you'll know when you see it because a giant gray airplane with armament loadouts will be where the map was. Just select whichever looks like the most fun. Go ahead and switch out of that menu so you can see the map again. Hit the save button and name it something. That's it, you're ready to fly! Hit the blue checkmark and have at it. Steerpoint 2 is the point by the enemy. It's in the air though so if you want to be able to use your FLIR to automatically point to the enemy I think you have to set its altitude to ground level. Not 100% how to do this, I guess just give it an altitude of 0 in the editor. Oh and with that enemy, there's something that says like 1 OF 1. It's two boxes side by side. If you click the right arrow (I think) of the box to the right you can spawn another enemy that will be part of the same group! The box will then say something like 2 OF 2. It can be a different enemy so you can have a Ural and then click that button and change the next guy into a UAZ. To select the Ural again, click the left button for the left box. The box should then say 1 OF 2. Oh and you can add waypoints like you did for the plane if you want these guys moving. Hope this helps. The mission editor is pretty intuitive so I think you'll get it figured out pretty quick.

  12. I disagree, but you can call semantics on this one: The F4 which was released in December 1998 wasn't terribly successful at all, and the company that released it folded. The 'other factors' are very important because they are in fact what makes it the exception. And that DC was pretty buggy, too. Jane's did quite well by comparison, and frankly I believe radar operation was more nuanced and closer to reality there than in the original F4, but maybe my memory fails me here. Great! Then like everyone else, you must be wondering what else the NEXT module will bring, too! ;) No, a DC can be commercially viable, but it isn't a simple piece of software (you could make it be, but again, it'd be pretty dumb). In other words, the potential for a DC right now is slowly being increased with each module. This random mission generator is the very first step towards such a goal, but there are many, many things to do to achieve a reasonable DC (even the RMG is not easy, but it can povide oodles of replayability if set up correctly). The other thing to consider is that there is a great deal of features that are MORE important than a DC that need to make it into the game, such as particular AI behavior, radio communications, all that 'other fun stuff' that makes up part of the immersion. I mean, how would you like a 'DC' where no one talks to anyone? Some people think this is part of the DC. It isn't. The DC is a combination of many things, mainly resources management and regeneration, and top level strategic and lower level tactical AI, then you have 'squadron leader' AI (be it for tanks or planes, say) and 'flight section leader' AI and finally you get down to individual vehicle AI, which then must tap into a communications system, etc. Pieces upon pieces upon pieces. Let's say it isn't simple.

However, there's no mention of any requirement or recommendation to do so in the Adverse Weather Operation chapter. EDIT: With all the thread merging, replies are al out of whack. I simply can't wait for that day. From all I have heard from those using them now, I very likely will not be dissapointed in the least but rather very very impressed. In other words I see your half empty glass and raise you a full one. :D Out

  18. It’s a question of "how do you learn". As a former teacher, that in itself is a subject of endless (subjective) debate. This time round though ED have all the bases covered. An excellent manual, (in draft), which improves on the key limitations of the KA-50 manual by including applicable procedures, etc. and the new interactive training missions, which, if there are enough and varied, will be an invaluable combination. I’m not going to criticise anyone for leaving that tempting icon alone on their desktop till they have “done their homework”. Whatever floats your own personal boat. I am just amazed by your self-restraint. I broke within minutes, and, yes I am equally frustrated and engrossed, and the frustration would be lessened greatly if I had read the whole manual first, but my attention span is limited when reading technical manuals. I learn by applied study. I read a chapter then practice the content, until I can do it unaided, then onto the next chapter. I cheated with mavericks. I skipped a lot and went straight to mavericks. And I can’t shoot a damn thing. Those missed chapters. SOI this and SPI that. Chinese hats and boat switches! Grumble grumble grumble. This sim can’t be cheated! Hog heaven population +1

  22. The price of the game is fine. What I am personally frustrated with is I have purchased Lock On modern air combat... 5 times. Lomac original cd. lomac Flaming cliffs x 3 2x download version + 1 cd version (cd version is water damaged after moving house/state) ~related DCS blackshark seperate purchase, but eventually intergrated to FC2 as stand alone Lock On flaming cliffs 2. currently still on first purchase however MAIN computer is dead and i probably have lost it. What i would like to see is a loyalty discount applied to those who own previous titles. (eg FC1 get 40% off FC2 & 20% off DCS a-10 i also would like to have true ownership of the titles i buy. Since lock on flaming cliffs I feel like have only 'rented' the game. DCS A-10 possibly could see me spend a total of 2000 - 2500. and im not really 'into' mud moving Id rather be spending this money on DCS- Kuznetsov with a functional kuznetsov lower deck parking and realistic Su-33 perhaps thrustmaster would release a HOTAS FLANKER i mite also mention i had flanker 2 sweet game! aside from the bugs.

  24. When I served in the navy 10 years ago, we alwaysed measured things in pints (of beer). I still think that's a good way to legitimate a purchase  You see, here in Norway, if you buy a pint at a pub i will cost probably around $10 (Yeah, I know it's terrible, but our gouverment don't want us to use alcohol and tobacco so they try to make it so expensive that noone will afford to drink/smoke). Anyway, the point is, if you do the math, you'll easily see that you get tons of more fun with the Warthog than you get from beer for the same amount of dollars :smartass: You see Oh btw, I can't afford the sim yet myself. Still have to read about the fun in here for two more weeks until I get my salary.

  25. I tried, I really did. I got to page 350-something but the icon was looking at me. I know what to mean though, the falcon forums.......”how do I?” .....”Nosewheel steering”.....etc. But, I had a quick bash with the mission editor. Created a nice relaxing jaunt at sunset out of Batumi. It was a seminal moment. The runway lights bleeding into each other, the engines spooling up, the amazing ground handling shaking me as i prepared to rotate, then as I lifted off, the dying sun filled the canopy, blazing, lighting off the instruments. I turned, spooling up my mavericks, the sun, now behind me, bathed the dash. My jaw actually dropped. I yelped. Not since Goldeneye on the N64 or Far Cry on the PC has my jaw actually involuntarily lost control. And this is only a damn beta. So, yeah, RTFM Then fly damnit! I recommend a sunset trip. Just take tissues. (oh, and the Hog HOTAS launched! http://www.simhq.com/) Gibber

  28. $500.00 US and not listed for sale on any major retailer anywhere. Not good. Less than 2 weeks before product launch and you can't preorder anywhere except some small shop in England? I would't trust those smaller shops farther than I could kick them. They will probably sell dozens and are only alloted to recieve 2 sticks from TM. I bet there will be a bunch of pissed off people here in this forum shortly after the 20th. This happens every time with new product launches on computer hardware. At least with places like Newegg and Amazon they mostly don't sell more than they will get and then holdout their customers for a month while waiting for backorders. I've been building PC's since the 386DX days and fell victem to BS marketing and lies several times.....Always pay with credit card and if you don't get your stick shorthly after the 20th cancel immediately and tell your CC company to block them from charging you. For $500.00 and you still have to buy pedals to use it this thing better work flawlessly and last for 10 years with no failure. As much as I want it I'm holding out until real reviews come in and reputable retailers have it in stock so you have some recourse if it is a $500.oo lemon.

  40. As long as the engine isn’t actively rendering waves, splashes and reflections under the ground terrain then it doesn’t matter, it’s just a big polygon which is clipped out before it hits the screen buffer. And as GA said, you can turn it down as with a lot of things. I am having a vision of the future………its coming………i can’t hold it in….. DCS: A-10 will use DX9. That’s 2 below an 11 and one below a 10. 8 more than 1 and sounds like a German “no”. The graphics will be configurable. There will be options. Some will moan about the graphics being too intense and making their computers run slow. They will be advised to TURN SOME SETTINGS DOWN. Some will complain about the graphics being too basic and not making use of their mega-sli-hex-core PC’s. They will be advised to PUSH ALL THE SLIDERS TO THE RIGHT. Some will bemoan the DirectX version and the loss of features that they don’t understand. It’s a lower number and therefore must be bad. When the next DCS module ships with DX11 many will moan that they are not prepared to upgrade their gfx card and how outrageous everything is. When the next DCS module ships with DX11 many will moan that it doesnt support DX13 or whatever version comes with windows 8. When the next next DCS module comes out with support for DX13 many will moan that they are not prepared to upgrade their gfx card and how outrageous everything is. Again.

  43. I fully agree with you here, and I was stunned that there were no instructions in the GUI manual (seems like the perfect place for them; GRAPHICS USER INTERFACE) for multi-display set-ups. If there were, I sure missed them. By the way, no one ever called me an OP before. Should I be insulted or complimented?
    1 point
  44. I agree with the OP. All these posts about multi monitor setup are very nice. They even helped me setup my own monitor rig. But everything I did was empirical and experimental. It's really not a clean setup... among the problems I still have I can note: - Fullscreen mod crashes the game - Requires a "ghost" monitor to the left because the viewscreen is always centered on the primary - Loss of most usable feature of the F10 map (out of view on the ghost monitor) - Loss of view of the control display [RCtrl-Enter] - Radio text captions displayed on center and right monitor. - etc. For most setup problems, I would be compelled to blame the general lack of understanding of the multi monitor configuration. All we have are examples on how to do a setup, which we can tweak, but we have no actual information on how the parameters are used and, even more, what are the limitations. That would definitely deserve a chapter in the configuration/GUI manual. Something written by someone with more than trial-and-error understanding of the video engine.
