The training in this game is horrible. Not only does the instructor sound like he is reading the instructions off of a piece of paper in a mono-tone voice, he uses wayyyy too many acronyms and never explains stuff fully. I just tried the navigation tutorial, and all it told me was that I needed to start switching frequencies around. The manual is probably the only effective training tool aside from having someone walk you through.4 points

Part B can be found here. Tactical Training Qualification Documentation - Provides Mission Data Cards, Maps and Diagrams for all 15 missions of the campaign. Tactical Training Qualification Documentation 2 - Provides User Bars, Badges and Certificates for the Campaign. Backstory: I've searched the forums but couldn't find a reference to this topic so starting a new thread. The training in DCS-A10C is excellent but what I would like to have is a Flight Qualification Campaign that mimics the training and flight quals of what an actual A10 pilot would go through. Each mission would cover a specific training element and to pass you need to succeed with each mission. At the end of the campaign you would be considered qualified to fly the A-10C in combat. I realize this is a game and you can just jump right into a combat mission but given the realism in this sim I would like to pass a formal qualification test before moving onto combat missions. I've done the research and came up with this model: The A-10C Pilot Qualification Course has the following phases Phase 1: Academic Classes and Pre-Flight Training Phase 2: Basic Flight Training Qualification Phase 3: Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Phase 4: Tactical Training Qualification Phase 1 gives you Initial Qualification Training (IQT) and is a pre-requisite for Phase 2. Hopefully you have completed Phase 1 and are familiar with the A-10C aircraft systems and instruments. If not, please read the A-10C Flight Manual before continuing. Phase 2 gives you Basic Aircraft Qualification (BAQ). It is a pre-requisite for Phase 3. It is recommended that you complete this phase before proceeding to Phase 3. Phase 3 makes you Basic Mission Capable (BMC). It is a pre-requisite for Phase 4. Phase 4 makes you Combat Mission Ready (CMR). This is necessary before proceeding on any real combat missions. Phase 2 - Basic Flight Training Qualification contains: Contact Stage (VFR): 1. Perform Ground Handling 2. Perform Take-Off and EFATO 3. Fly Traffic Pattern 4. Perform Approach and Landing 5. Perform Basic Maneuvers 6. Perform Advanced Handling 7. Perform Aerobatics 8. Respond to Emergencies Instrument / Navigation Stage (IFR): 9. Instrument Approach (Landing) 10. Instrument Flight Plan Navigation Formation Stage: 11. Fly 2 Ship as Wingman Low-Level Stage 12. Fly Low-Level Flight Plan Basic Flight Training Qualification Practice Mission Package is available which provides 12 Single Player missions that feature additional training dialogue and runway or in-air starts. Basic Flight Training Qualification Documentation is available which includes Mission Data Cards, Maps and Diagrams for all 12 missions of the campaign. Basic Flight Training Qualification Documentation 2 - Provides User Bars, Badges and Certificates for the Campaign. Phase 3 - Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification contains: Advanced Flight Training Stage AFT01 - Air to Air Refueling Day AFT02 - Air to Air Refueling Night AFT03 - Countermeasures and Threat Avoidance AFT04 - Target Area Ingress Preparation AFT05 - Illumination Flare Employment Air to Air Combat Stage: AAT06 - AA Gun and Missile Employment Surface Attack Stage: AAT07 - Gun & Rocket Employment AAT08 - Unguided Bomb Employment AAT09 - Guided Bomb Employment AAT10 - Missile Employment Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Practice Mission Package - Provides 10 Single Player missions that mimic the Campaign qualification missions and feature additional training dialogue and in-air starts. Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Documentation is available and includes Mission Data Cards, Maps, Loadout Diagrams and Target images for all 10 missions of the campaign. Advanced Aircraft Training Qualification Documentation 2 - Provides User Bars, Badges and Certificates for the Campaign. http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=311&cid=1 I haven't tried this - frankly because I'm not sure why I should, but FYI.. If anyone digs up a real changelog for it (other than it just pushing the firmware versions up) it would be good to share that too. It might be inside the download itself perhaps, haven't checked yet. All it says on the link above: Changes : Includes Firmware versions 10 (Joystick) & 18 (Throttle) Protection of the flash write through HID to avoid potential flash corruption2 points

Make sure you're using the Updated Training Missions and not the ones included with Beta 3. Also make sure you have an adult nearby to explain the big words to you. :pilotfly:2 points

It took me 4 hours one night trying to repair my Cougar throttle . Opened it and thing literally fell to pieces. Getting those circular rings to fit in their slots and the teeny weeny pot to fit all at the same time makes a game of Twister seem like child's play. I dip my hat to modders. LOL@ ordering Cubpilots throttle mod and then completely screwing it up(If I bought it.I opened mine up to look at the stock pot and see how cute a 20 cent pot looks). And I'm unco with stuff and getting old. Each minute I was looking at the window then at the Cougar at an increasing rate. P.S I just won a bid on elite pedals. Odear, what have I done? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Don't worry CH Products. I'm saving up for you. All the others are the life of the party but you are sitting there in the corner not getting attention. But I know if I took you home ,you would blow me away. The other bimbo blondes are not good in bed.2 points

Hello all, I have created a software that generates Thrustmaster T.A.R.G.E.T Macro Files (TTM) directly from your sim Kestroke configuration files. I called it Sim 2 T.A.R.G.E.T it can be downloaded from Checksix and is compatible with : FC2, DCS Blacksharck, DCS A-10C, Falcon all versions, FSX, IL2, maybe others to come in the future. It's very usefull to quickly generate ttm files with your keystrokes and then insert into TARGET Gui or script editor. Icemaker1 point

Hi, I've been struggling a little with the default snap views even with TIR5 it's just not comfortable for more than a glance at certain instruments. So I set about adjusting the snap views and thought I'd share both the views I'm now using and what I've learnt with regards to adjusting them. Disclaimer All data and information provided in this post is for informational purposes only. All information is provided on an as-is basis. 1. Backup the files you're going to change .\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Config\View\View.lua .\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Config\View\SnapViews.lua No, seriously backup! 2. Enable your own custom snap views .\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Config\View\View.lua UseDefaultSnapViews = false 3. Change KEYPAD1 Snap View (Radios) .\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Config\View\SnapViews.lua Snap[11][2] = {} Snap[11][2]["y_trans"] = 0.15 Snap[11][2]["x_trans"] = 0.15 Snap[11][2]["z_trans"] = -0.5 Snap[11][2]["vAngle"] = -90 Snap[11][2]["rollAngle"] = 0 Snap[11][2]["viewAngle"] = 45 Snap[11][2]["hAngle"] = 0 RCTRL + 0, KEYPAD1 in game should now give you the radio stack. 3. Change KEYPAD4 Snap View (Left MFD) .\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C Beta\Config\View\SnapViews.lua Snap[11][7] = {} Snap[11][7]["y_trans"] = -0.27820714509734 Snap[11][7]["x_trans"] = 0.32762247014528 Snap[11][7]["z_trans"] = 0.24479886800933 Snap[11][7]["vAngle"] = -10.651849345676 Snap[11][7]["rollAngle"] = 0 Snap[11][7]["viewAngle"] = 35 Snap[11][7]["hAngle"] = 0 RCTRL + 0, KEYPAD6 in game should now give you the right MFD. 7. Tweak to your liking Snap[L][M]["N"]=O L is the plane and 11 is the id for the A10 M is the KEYPAD value + 1, so for example KEYPAD1 would be Snap[11][2], KEYPAD2 Snap[11][3] etc. N is the value you're changing where:- y_trans up(+) and down (-) z_trans right(+) and left (-) x_trans back(+) and forward(-) vAngle pan view rollAngle look left (-) and look right (+) viewAngle = field of view / zoom hAngle pan view By the way it's RCTRL + KEYPAD0 again to turn off snap view and return to your normal view. Anyway hope you find the above useful. bt1 point

As promised here's the tutorial how you configure single switches with TARGET while keeping other buttons default mapping in DCS. First use the attached TARGET-Profile as a sample (you can modify it or create a new one according to your needs). SAMPLE PROFILE When you open the profile you can see, only the Throttle is embedded in this profile. Then, on the next window, you will see the mapped buttons, while all other buttons are mapped as default DX-butons. Thats quite important! You will also notice that the modified buttons are mapped, using two layers. Leave the "Edit configuration" and run the profile! It should then look like the picture below. Now start DCS:A-10C! Go to Options->Controls! You should find a column called "Thrustmaster Combined" (see picture below). Click into a field within this column. Now the "Load Profile"-Button should be highlighted (see picture below). Click it and then load the deafult TMW-Throttle lua-file (see picture below)! Now everything should work like the default Plug&Play configuration, except for the switches you mapped with TARGET. Hope this helps!1 point

That's what my wife asked me when she wondered why I've been so excited recently! Seriously, I haven't enjoyed flight simming this much for years, and believe me, I've been doing it for years now! The BS and A10C titles are just simply outstanding. I have waited my entire 39 years for a decent hardcore technical simulation to be possible at home. I can safely say that using this software and steadily learning all about the systems and operations is as much fun as the last 15 years I've spent in real aviation! Many hours in real aircraft and simulators, my work chums are wondering why I still want to do it when I get home again!!! Now then, a nice TMWH from Santa would make for a very happy new year!!! :megalol: WIFE!!! Time for you to do some online shopping. God knows you've had enough practice!!! Best wishes to all of you!1 point

Thanks for the advice Jabog. I'm already member of an spanish virtual squadron and right now we are inmersed on a project that simulates all the process, stages and procedures followed by real spanish air force pilots in order to earn their wings . @Geskes: I've downloaded the file, it is a zip with many .ogg and .wav files but none of them is a .miz so I can't fly your mission. There are two files (mission and options) that has no extension. I've tried to rename them as .miz but it doesn't work. I have few days with the sim and I don't know what i'm doing wrong. I've had a G940 for about a week. I have searched high and low for a way to make the stick release pressure when you hold the trim button. I am one of the guys who holds the trim button down to manover then release when I get to the position I want. The trim works really good on the G940 to hold it in position where it is trimmed but doesn't release pressure as in the real thing when the button is held in. I have devised a temporary fix until ED/Logitech can work out why it doesnt work good. I played with this for hours until I came up with this. In your profiler: Open the the trimmer command or make a new one (t is by default the key for trim) if you deleted their profile. Click the "Edit" button. A box will open called "Record Command Options" make sure that the "Record pauses" is uncheck and set the command rate to the fastest setting. You are done. Go in game and try it. What it does is pulse the trimmer so that in effect you are removing the force when you hold the button down. The only annoyance with this method is the trimmer click sound repeating so fast... It FINALLY works the way it should, someone just needs to make a Modman pack to remove the trimmer button sound and everyone should be happy..... the 2 files you can temporarily remove are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\Sounds\Effects : Trimmerclickhold.wav Trimmerclickrelease.wav Then you will not get trimmer buton sound spam....1 point

This is what you should have posted originally, right out of your own text. "There are training missions set up in the Allied Force manual that explain the concepts of what it is about to teach and then has you follow steps. In my opinion, that is a great way to outline the material and teach it in an effective way." This would have gotten you alot further in this forum if you had of approached your current dilemma with this statement to the community. Try to communicate first before crucifying... p.s Are you aware that the first thing people see when they get into these forums is , DCS: A-10C Warthog (21 Viewing)>>>>>>>>>> Horrible Training hense the remark "poor form". Im sorry for the "-1 rep" post, that was bellow the belt, BUT.... posts like your original are the reason people have a go at you. when i log on and the first thing i see is the forum thread title "horrible training" and then go investigate just to find that negativity, you deserve all the flamming that comes your way. this is suppose to be a place of constructive conversation and suggestions to :helpsmilie: fellow simmers. not a place to  On a positive note, Good luck with the :joystick: and i hope you find a method of learning that suits you, :thumbup:1 point

Send, {b up} ; Sends b release to the application SetTimer, WaitForButtonUp1, off return1Joy1 => First Joystick in the windows list (2 => second joystick and so on) Joystickbutton number You need to change the {b down} and {b up} to suit your application.

We'll get there. Hisses and clicks, channel block noises, and so on are going to depend on the Teamspeak sound engine issue that I referenced earlier. In the meantime, it would be helpful if I people could provide reference material on the different nuances of how the UHF and VHF FM radios sound in real life, and what the issues are with regard to things like duplexing and so on.1 point

I think I've said it all already :music_whistling: I'm glad that more people will be aware of unmodded/new Cougar quality and also much more careful when reading bombastic 'facts' on any manufacturer's marketing leaflets and articles. If they are not paid for this... well, that's even worse.1 point

Ok: This here is where it goes wrong right from the start. The scientific method relies on something called the Null Hypothesis. That is - whatever it is you are working on, the experiment needs to be set up in such a way that you are competing with the null hypothesis; essentially, your work is about trying to proove yourself wrong. When you fail in doing this, you write it up and hand it over to others (through the peer-review literature) where they try to shoot you down. If they fail, you get published and we have one datapoint. Once this datapoint is achieved, the next step ensues: can others repeat the whole thing and do they get the same result? Others conduct the experiments (or variants thereof), and they also publish. At this stage we are now establishing what's called "a literature" - that is, the whole thing is repeated by independent researchers and if there is a coherence in the results people start to think that "maybe there is something in here". A very fine example of failure to use the Null Hypothesis correctly would be stuff like Ponz and Fleichmann (sp?) and their Cold Fusion. They failed to work adequately hard at disproving themselves, so they ended up causing a hubbubb that was just plain wrong. Similar things happened later with a guy whose name escapes me at the moment (he used sonoluminescense to attempt achieving fusion) - he failed to properly take into account the background neutrons produced by the equipment and reported success when there was none. Basically, scientists who make a claim and then wait for someone else to disprove them tend to have their careers demolished and see themselves laughed out of their university. The scientific community is extremely brutal on things like this. Extremely wrong. If this were true, then we would give equal credibility to the celestial teapot as anything else, because the celestial teapot has not been disproved. But strangely, there's no astronomers out there trying to tell us that there actually is a celestial teapot. The thing that laymen very often fail to understand that a single result is not worth the paper it's written on. Unfortunately, media generally don't understand it either. (This is why there's so the media phenomenon of a glass of wine a day being good for you one day and bad for you the next - media and laymen don't understand that it is the overall literature that matters, not any one study or any one experiment.) Which incidentally is just what you are talking about here: It is very interesting to see the astronomical difference between what laymen think of a given theory or hypothesis, and what the actual scientists involved think about them. But we are deviating quite far from the topic, yet again. But I can try to put this all into the context of the discovery that this thread is actually about: Astrobiologists have a very big problem insofar as extraterrestrial life goes, since we only really have a single datapoint - we know some of how life works, evolved and started on this planet. But trying to extrapolate from that what the universal rules for life are like is extremely difficult - it's a bit like taking a stroll through a black neighborhood in Harlem*, looking at the people there, and then try to use that to form an opinion on what color the skin of human beings are. We'll have a valid datapoint since we know people can have black/colored skin. But can we say for certain that all humans therefore have that color skin? Nope. In the field of biology, this whole thing is about trying to identify the basic necessities for life. As we slowly but surely get better at the whole exploring the universe thing it would be nice to know what to look for, even aside from the purely academic interest of stuff just being cool to learn and any possible medical benefits. But right now we are basically still in harlem, but this little bacterium that was discovered is like the first time we see a white person: a whole new variable has been introduced. Specifically in this case it is that this bacterium can use arsenic instead of phosphorous - something that isn't strictly new (we've seen extremophile bacteria do that before in protein coding), but this thing can actually do the same trick in it's genome. So basically, until now we had every reason to think that phosphorous is an absolute requirement for life due to it's role in DNA and RNA, but suddenly this white dude walks by and we get a new datapoint. Here's something that also happens a lot in media reporting of science: many media outlets say that this somehow would disprove an earlier theory or something like that. And it doesn't. It adds a datapoint. This might sound a bit like semantics, but it actually is extremely important because it enters into how the work is actually done. Just like Einstein added to newtonian mechanics through his work on relativity - he didn't disprove Newton. Newton's equations still work perfectly for the things that Newton used them on, and the assumption that most people are black still holds true in Harlem, where we gathered the previous data point. *DISCLAIMER: I actually have no clue about the true demographics in Harlem. I needed a workable and simple analogy and took a movie cliché.*1 point

I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the database thread asking this naive question, so I'm making this one. I'm sorry if this sounds dumb but what's the point of a location/serial number database? TIA.1 point

I haven't forgot about the project. Next update is being worked on, but its taking some time. Will likely have 3 to 4 additional mission types bringing the grand total to 20-24 possible missions. What is taking so long is that I'm changing the dialog and the rules that govern the dialog. Essentially its less Michael Bay hollywood style dialog and more to spec with brevity terms. Needless to say changing it from a confusing and somewhat pre-defined setup to a more confusing yet with more capability takes time to figure out.1 point
