Looking for feedback on this new profile for X52 I just put together. My methodology was to create all the bindings first, but not to any specific button. I then started placing them symmetrically while accessing the 'delete unused buttons' to see what was left. Spent many hours. Anyone see any problems with it? Opinions please. PREP: To prep for this profile you must turn off the clutch function in the SST Control Panel. To do so right click on the controller in your systray (next to clock on taskbar) and select Control Panel. Take note that you can see all the button numbers from this first tab. By selecting a function on the HOTAS you can see which button number is lit. Go to the options tab and deselect the check next to Clutch. Sorry this is so vague, I'm in Vegas right now and can't look at the screen in question. I'll update this post after Vegas is done with me. TRACKIR: Although there are no settings on this HOTAS for TrackIR, I've received some requests for key info. I personally use the same keys as are the defaults for center, pause, and precision.. with the addition of the CTRL key. I've found that CTRL+F12, for instance, hasn't interfered with any sim or game I've used the TrackIR with. Because I don't have room on the HOTAS to assign TrackIR center, I use voice activated commands. So I say 'Track IR Center' and it completes the keyboard command CTRL+F12. I also use VAC for all Radio and view related functions. For more information on VAC check the links in my related post. I tried everything I could to get the slider input to stop jumping around, including ordering a powered USB adapter.. no joy. I settled for using the slider, not for precision zoom, but to control three positions. I go into my ZoomView/JoySlider1 axis tune and make my settings: Deadzone: 0 .............X: 100 .............Y: 100 ......Curve: 100 .......Slider: Unchecked .......Invert: Checked UserCuver: Unchecked This gives you the ability to zoom full in, zoom full out, and center. I've found it saves me the diversion of trying to find that perfect zoom on something. The three positions are truly the most useful. 10.15.10 0100: reference pic updated with HOTAS functions and Startup Proc. 10.16.10 2019: updated pic to reflect new assignments. Changes: Added the Trim to Stick key to button D.. this must be set in game. It's a wonderful feature where you hold the button.. and movement of the stick = trim input.. works great. I found that my radials were just too unreliable when set as bands in SST.. have to wait until they add them in the axis section next update. 10.17.10 0126: Fixed a problem with mode2 pinky.. I input keypad numbers instead of standard by accident.. bleh. 10.27.10 0331: Take note that that the reference picture is incorrect for TMS and DMS for the Forward and AFT functions. I'm in Vegas now and have no editing software, but I'll correct it asap. 11.03.10 0054: Note to people with problems after beta2 install. 12.15.10 0737: Updated pic and added diagram only pic. Profile: Added wheel brakes to mode3 clutch button. 02.28.10 0739: Updated profile to remove airbrakes from throttlewheel (I always hit it by accident) to the thumb radial, I've come to terms with the fact that there will not be a trim axis in the future. I also added NVG gain to the top throttle radial. I find myself using it frequently with JTAC IR spoting. Both pics and the downloadable profile are updated with the new functions. IMPORTANT: Subscribe to this thread and check periodically for an updated profile to download. I doubt this is a final. I'd hate to give a bad layout to anyone. Profile can be downloaded HERE Pic w/Tables | Pic wo/Tables2 points

Hi Everyone, In the course of working towards the A-10C Pilot Qualification Campaign http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=62992 I ended up reverse engineering the training missions to determine parameter settings for various switches, etc. I put my learning into a handy reference guide so I wouldn't have to keep opening missions to see how it was done. It's still a work in progress and I won't guarantee that every value is correct or won't change with future ED releases. Hopefully other mission designers can use this... I thought for long time that would be nice to have this thread where we can share and discus interesting documentaries about history, military or ANY other subject which bothers or inspires you. I want to start with "Modern Marvels - Bombs" as it's sort of related to what ED is doing now and will get us familiar with... :smilewink: Veoh link : (you will need to install VEOH player - good stuff) - HERE 44:43min Hope you'll find something interesting for you and others too.1 point

Hey all, Just a quick post with a link to some pics of recent work. All the parts shown have been laser engraved and I plan to offer parts for sale in the coming weeks. Sorry for the bad lighting, took these with my phone. The knobs are replicas of actual knobs from some actual warhhog panels. I have a couple more styles of knob to reproduce, but expect to be able to offer all the knobs in the pit (or worst case, 90% of them:)) Pics here More to come... :)1 point

The only conclusion with mobo is that 100% of bricks are Intel. Brand is not reliable, we got all brands, with probably some Asus stand out but as we don t know the % of Asus to other Mobo... Now lets see if there s some faulty bracked in the SN or if its just random. Here are some: 935 1544 1462 1865 More WT bricked but can t find SN reference1 point

DCS:WH can feel like a really intimidating sim, but once you've "figured out" the whole SOI, SPI thing, and the cold start sequence, suddenly its feels alot less overwhelming (info overload etc) and you can actually start enjoying yourself. As Celticcoho said, there will be plenty of ppl in squads/online happy to help...its why they are successful squads. There aren't many of us in the 504 these days, but when we do fly (couple of times a week, usually on Friday/Saturday night at 2100z) we train each other on the bits we each know. Its worked quite well for us so far, though we all have much to learn. We're now at the stage where we're comfortable taking on layered SHORAD (tunguska, shilka, strela...not quite so keen on those Osas yet though), we just still need to remember those BMPs are nasty critters when we get too enthusiastic with the cannon ;) Go online, don't be put off, you'll soon find a bunch of like minded and like-attituded guys to fly with.1 point

Hi acedj, I have got a similar issue with stt software myself few months ago. Don't go beyond 6 letters while naming your control assignments in the STT software. It appeared for me that for some reason stt goes haywire if I name my controls using more than 6 letters. I hope that will help.1 point

.. unless the community (eg. me and whatever suckers help) comes up with one first. I'm only gonna worry about the aerial war with 'budget' action for the ground - although I saw a book when passing through RNZAF Command & Staff college many years ago (no, I wasn't attending, just part of officer school) and have been itching to implement it (it's the reason I picked up programming). The book is (US Army Col. ret.) Trevor N Dupuy's "Numbers, Predictions and War" (Hero books). There are some theoretical mathematical concerns about his work, but it is good enough for a sim game. I picked up the revised 1985 version from Amazon. The 1979 version is available at: http://www.amazon.com/Numbers-prediction-war-history-evaluate/dp/0672521318/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1296354912&sr=8-1 The book is not about the "art" of war, it is about the "science" of it and modelling battles based on historical data, rather than starting with the Lanchester equation (which gives a poor correlation with actual historical results).1 point

There is currently no time or effort that can be spared to implement a DC. It will likely not happen for a long time.1 point
-
You ignoring all other points and only respond on something small like that? Sorry i didn't see any point comming from you why a DC should not be implemented in the future. It really seems that it is from a personal perspective that you like singular missions better. I would never go against your personal opinion. But we are discussing what the mass of the people rather like. And i hear from alot of flight simmers they would like a DC even if not everything is realistic. They just ignore it because there is enough other beautifull things in a DC to keep bussy with. And like me they rather take the imperfections than no DC at all if they had a choice. And the nice thing is that you still can play singular missions. So i'm totally missing the point you made. The only good point i heard against a DC is the awfull lot of work and programming you need to do to create something like it. But it has been done really well in other games with computers that are far infirior to what we have now. And still the campaigns in Falcon,TAW,EECH are far ahead from what we see now in flight simm's. And it seems to me pretty silly to deny that because they where not able to simmulate a true realistic battlefield. But if i may speculate you never ever played a true realistic singular mission also.1 point

Again, how old is the F4 dynamic campaigne, and how old is THAT game. Just taking a shot in the dark here. Because if you are using such programme to train pilots - then i am sure their training would be more scenario based. A single pilot is not and would not be interested in devising theatre wide war strategies. Really, Ohhhh really..:megalol:...... Are they the same realistic missions where if i decide to fly off the designated track the world soon becomes sterile and void of threats..... Where there are no supporting flights in the zone....... where there is no damage and asset tracking?????? Reality denyers.... you sure you are not talking about yourself here. Now that i have calmed down from a fit of uncontrollable laughter let me just add to this. YES the F4 campain is not perfect. - - - But it does for something that old get most of it right. What it does add is a living world, that is not sterile. It provides something for a WIDE RANGE of people (which is what you want in game - simulation). It gives tacticions a chance to run a war, it gives those that just want to fly a range of diverse missions it gives those that want something in the middle of the previous two an added benefit. It allows more than one online squad to participate in a theatre of war possibly supporting each other without someone building the mission, and knowing the mission. It will encourage teamplay between people as each will have their own flight WORKING TOWARD A COMMON GOAL. It will give you a sense of satisfaction when you complete task and ground troops and further flights can progress. It will give you a sense of purpose if you fail a mission but seriously damage it, that if you get tasked (or another flight is tasked) back to complete said mission, you will see the devastation that was caused previously. It will give cause to support and try to attack supply routes. Enabling you the chance to win a war of attrition rather than a score of the same units killed. IT WILL ELIMINATE THE FRUSTRATING ONLINE SCENARIOS THAT YOU PLAY OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN KNOWING EXACTLY WHERE EVERY ENEMY IS AND KNOWING EXACTLY HOW TO INGRESS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO OPTION FOR A SURPRISE. And probably the most important point. It will create a stronger interest and prolong the life of DCS (just like it has with F4) and in doing so will create revenue for the DCS team to which we will receive additional flyables... That solely is worth a dynamic campain1 point

In fact, this news is wildly criticized in China, at least on websites. CCTV is well known as using mixed video chip and music inappropriately in the news, especially in defence related news, but what are we gonna do except get used it :( Speaking of education system, I found it's funny that no matter in America or China, we all thought we have a very bad education system:) In China, children are put in cruel competition from the age of 5. Endless courses and homeworks filled with their weekends and spare time. In Shandong and Jiangsu province, high school students only have 7 hours for sleep and 2 hours for meals and other stuff each day, no weekends, you have 2 days every month to have a break. This kind of educating method perhaps can made many well educated engineers in a obvious way, but their creativity is not as strong as Americans.1 point

Yes it will download large patch files so be prepared to leave it overnight :) But it will be a different game once patched, MUCH better. Also - download all the free skin packs to make the planes look pretty from here: http://riseofflight.com/en/community/usefulmaterials Plus any other things you find useful. Wiki is also useful: http://en.wiki.riseofflight.com/index.php?title=Main_Page Some tips I've offered on the ROF forum before: 1. Change your trackir profile to make it more sensitive as needed so that you can look all the way on your 6 and above you and down at your instruments without it "freaking out" and jumping around. 2. Turn off trackir and save a gunsight view (bead in the ring), by holding a numpad number (e.g. 8), using pgup/pgdn/home/end/insert/del and the mouse to move it, then F10 to save it while still holding the numpad number. Then turn trackir back on. You can then map the number (e.g. 8) to your joystick and hold that to be on your gunsight. 3. An alternative to no.2 is to put a deadzone on X and Y in your trackir profile, so that when your head is in the middle it will snap to the centre gunsight position. 6DOF looks cool but it sux for gunnery, but you can still lean left and right if you move your body out of the deadzone. 4. Turn off "TrueView" in trackir because it makes you sink in your seat... very bad in a dogfight as you can't see. 5. Focus on just 2-3 planes until you have them mastered. Probably focus on rotaries or non-rotaries at first. Central planes have no mixture for non-rotaries so are easier to learn quickly too (e.g. Pfalz D3a, Albatross). 6. Lookup Squids plane guides on the ROF useful materials! Download them and keep them handy. 7. Shift+A to go on auto-level if you have to go AFK or level out a plane that wants to point at the sky like the SE5a. I didn't know about this for ages! It works even on servers with autopilot set to off. Also if you are injured and not strong enough to push your stick forward, pushing forward in combination with Shift A means you can still fly level to try and escape. 8. Save your input settings to a different name other than "input", otherwise you will lose your settings when you do an update. 9. Radiators - if you have a temp gauge keep it around 70 for best performance. If not, it's normally ok about 70% open, but close it during dives. 10. Mixture - is easy. Just full rich on engine start, then adjust until your RPM guage is the highest you can get. Every 1000m altitude redo. 11. If you go online - be aware that most minimise their fuel level to get a huge edge in combat maneuvers! Lake dogfight is generally 20%, while large or historical maps people take 30-80%. 12. Camelfag bulletins - very interesting reading: http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewforum.php?f=3161 point
