  1. Ahem: lol? Lets recall all the releases made by all atmospheric nuclear tests, Chernobyl etcetera, and count the impact of them. And then note that the radioactive release from our coal fired plants kill 5-10 times as many people each year than the total verified deaths from Chernobyl. But lets assume that all the world's ~450 reactors blow up in the Chernobyl way (that is, we are assuming that none of them have containment, which is not the case, but nevermind) and with Chernobyl style results. The consequences would then be: Direct deaths: 25 650 Cancers: 1 800 000 Total "Zones of Alienation": 2 826km2 (For perspective: marginally larger than the country of Luxembourgh). As for the total fallout distributed, that is of course hard to say. The type of fallout matters there as well (from what I gather it's the Plutonium reactors that have the worst products). But do remember that there has already been over 600 atmospheric nuclear tests of yields ranging from a couple kilotons to 50 megatons. And while there was good reason to cease the atmospheric tests, it's not like we are all dead right now. :P Also, even with those tests, actual nuclear activity is still a relatively minor player when it comes to human contributions to background radiation. My point is: this fearmongering doesn't help anyone, least of all does it help the Japanese who have to deal with what's going on right now. Doesn't help them to deal with the aftermath of the quakes and tsunami if people are blinded by irrational fear.

  2. How hard was it to do Falcon's DC? From the man himself........ http://www.cleared-to-engage.com/2011/03/12/interview-with-kevin-klemmick-lead-software-engineer-for-falcon-4-0/

  3. I've found that quite often, real life tactics just simply can't apply to the games we fly, which end up creating scenarios real pilots simply have never faced. Why use tactics developed in Afghanistan in real-life (a very low threat environment) when our virtual threat environment in DCS includes 2S6 and SA-15? Completely different enemy threats are going to mean the real-life tactics developed in low threat environments can end up being quite useless. Many real life tactics are still just fine and dandy, but many are null and void and just stupid to use in the threat environments we operate our virtual A-10Cs in. Another thing I’ve noticed is that people often box themselves into trying to use these real life tactics, even when common sense tells them to do otherwise. I've had this happen: people sometimes ask me in a multiplayer flight, while I am cruising around at 25 thousand feet, "Speed, why are you flying so high?" I will answer, "To stay above the 2S6s". Then they will say, "But in real life, A-10s fly at like 15 thousand feet". Quite often, not but ten minutes later, those same folks will be in the silk, and then respawning back at their base because they were shot down by a 2S6 or SA-13 even. The fact is, in real life, the Taliban have ZERO 2S6s, ZERO SA-13, and VERY few MANPADS. The A-10 has never even faced the 2S6 to my knowledge. Why should you apply real life tactics that were never designed to be used against the weapons systems we are facing against in game? I know that in Desert storm, A-10As suffered high losses from IR SHORAD and AAA. The A-10C remedies that by giving the A-10 supreme striking power from- guess what? HIGH ALTITUDE. JDAMs, GBU-10/12, Mavericks, CBUs- they all work from angels 20+ and with the sniper or lightning pod, you can target stuff from that high. Again, my point is, don't box yourself in with real-life tactics that do not apply to the situation you are facing in game. You now can play the altitude trump card against all but a few enemy defense types, and I would suggest you use that trump card. Even the SA-15 can be easily outranged if you are at like 24k feet. I’ve gotten AGM-65D locks from 9 miles on SA-15s at 20k+ feet. In one instance, I destroyed four SA-15s in a single pass, and they never even got a shot off on me. Altitude rules. So while it’s never bad to look at real life tactics used, in fact, it’s GREAT to look at real life tactics, don’t let the desire to use real-life tactics blind you to common sense. Use the tactics that most make sense for you in the scenario you are facing. Use your head! The number one thing you can do to kill more targets and stay alive is simply never to let anyone shoot at you. So again, I will repeat my mantra: "If you are getting shot at, you are doing something wrong"...

  4. One thing I highly admire is the discipline of japanese. Anywhere else (certainly here), and you would hear stories about plundering, people taking advantage of the situation, increasing fuel/food/water prices...etc But not in Japan. I think the whole world can learn a lot from them.

  5. The sad part is that cost is always being the number one consideration in pretty much everything... only when it comes to desperately bad situations do people awake and realise the survival is most crucial thing and then they will do anything... but then can be too late... I was thinking just how much more things can get terrible is these seizmic activities were to indicate a much worse movement in the earths crust and more and more and stronger earthquakes start happening... people do not realise just how powerful nature is and how insignificant we are in the grand sceme of things... I feel sorry for the people of Japan but people are just selfish and money always comes before anything else...

  6. UPDATED 03/15/2011 I thought it would be good to post here my approach to configure the X-52 in this sim since many people could be new to it and could use it as a starting point. Attached to this post are 2 files: the Saitek .pr0 profile and the DCS A-10C .lua profile. Also you can see in the pictures below the controls arrangement. Note that the italic commands are executed in conjunction with the pinky switch located in the base of the control stick. This profile is optimized for TrackIR users. You may want to replace some functions with the camera panning commands if you don't own one. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW CAREFULLY TO AVOID TROUBLE. All the steps are simple, you just have to pay attention to not screw anything up. INSTRUCTIONS 1) To load the .lua profile: Open up A-10C options screen, controls. Select any cell in the Saitek X-52 column. Click "Load Profile" on top and point to the .lua file. Beware that if you leave selected a cell from other controller (e.g. keyboard, mouse, etc) you will overwrite that controller definition with the .lua file, so double check before you confirm the changes. In any case, backup the Config/Input folder, in the case you need to revert the changes. 2) To load the .pr0 profile: Copy the .pr0 file to the Saitek profiles folder (in my case is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Saitek SD6 Profiles). The profile should appear in the right-click menu of the Saitek taskbar icon. Right click the Saitek taskbar icon and ensure the "SFJackBauer A-10C" item is clicked. 3) Configure the speed brake slider: Inside DCS A-10C, change the "HOTAS Speed brake switch forward" keyboard key to "N", and the "HOTAS Speed brake switch aft" keyboard key to "B". This enables the use of the slider as a speedbrake controller (check pic below). If you open up a chat textbox, and it is spammed with BBBBBBB or NNNNNNN keys, then remember to set back the slider to the center position :). Tips * Use the Cockpit illumination switch (T4) for dark ramp-starts. * The buttons in the throttle LCD alone give access to the radios. When used with the pinky, are useful to switch between the flight plan and markpoints. * Use T5 and T6 to light up your engines. * The mousewheel behind the throttle gives access to the NVG functions, when combined with the pinky. * You can use the "i" (clutch) button in the throttle to command your voice chat program as I do. To do that you need to disable the clutch functionality in the Control panel -> Joysticks, and assign a key to the clutch button inside the Saitek Profile Editor. Your feedback and testing is warmly welcomed! ENJOY!!!! :pilotfly: SFJackBauer A-10C X-52 Profile.zip

  7. HawgTouch is a simple light-weight framework which allows you to create your own cockpit panels for DCS-10C. The software is bundled with 2 MFCD's, a UFC panel (Thanks to jeffyd123 @ ED forums): Included profile ShowcaseProfile.xml which demonstrates tabs, scaling and latest additions Version 1.25 changes - Fixed a bug where keystrokes of Rocker Switches weren't sent - Fixed a bug where keystrokes of Two State Switches weren't sent - Fixed a bug where keystrokes of Three State Switches weren't sent - Fixed panel closing and tab switching crash - Added a "drag" button to the top right, to drag, click and hold the button - Optimized code and image handling - Profile parsing improved, now showing detailed exceptions if profile is illegaly formatted - Two State switches now support multiple types: - On/On - Momentary/On - On/Momentary Take a look at the "TestPanel" tab in the ShowcaseProfile.XML to see how to assign switch behavior - Three State switches now support multiple types: - On/On/On - On/On/Momentary - Momentary/On/On - Momentary/On/Momentary Take a look at the "TestPanel" tab in the ShowcaseProfile.XML to see how to assign switch behavior - HawgTouch now ships in two executables. x86 and x64 Version 1.2 changes - Fixed bug in ClickButtons long press. Now working - Added support for tabs - Added panel scaling mechanism - Added audible clicks option - Better keypress engine, no more flashing HawgTouch now supports tabs. At least 1 tab must exist in every profile. Once a profile is loaded. A tab control box appears which allows you to switch between tabs. The tab control box can be latched to 9 locations of your chosen monitor. This is done by specifying 2 parameters in the profile XML <LatchTo></LatchTo> Available parameters: - UpperLeft - UpperMiddle - UpperRight - MiddleLeft - Middle - MiddleRight - BottomLeft - BottomMiddle - BottomRight The tab control box is also dragable. <MonitorID></MonitorID> Specifies which monitor the tab control box will latch on to. To get the ID of the monitor you'd like to latch the tab control box to, click on the "Monitors" link on the main HawgTouch window. It will display your local monitors setup. Sample profile XML with 1 tab and 1 panel: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <Tabs> <LatchTo>UpperLeft</LatchTo> <MonitorID>2</MonitorID> <Tab> <ID>1</ID> <Name>Test</Name> <Controls> <Control> <Name>Up Front Controller</Name> <PanelImage>\Images\UFC\ufc-main-panel.png</PanelImage> <X>80</X> <Y>10</Y> <ShowTitleButtons>true</ShowTitleButtons> <SizePercent>100</SizePercent> </Control> </Controls> </Tab> </Tabs> Supported controls in 1.1: - Click Buttons - Rocker Switches - Two State Switches - Three State Switches HawgTouch is fully "customizable", allowing you to use your own skins and graphics in any size you choose to make. Setting up exported MFCDs: 1.HawgTouch comes with a default skin in which the MFCD "transparent" zone is 400x400 pixels. With additional 186x146 pixels for the bezels. Therefore the MFCD's rendering in your multi monitor setup LUA file should be to 400x400 pixels to fit inside the frames. This is my multi-monitor setup: (1x 24" @ 1920x1080 and 1 x 22" @ 1280x800): _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('My_example'); Description = 'Two monitor configuration'; Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1920; height = 1080; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.6; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 2050; y = 105; width = 400; height = 400; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 2650; y = 105; width = 400; height = 400; } UIMainView = Viewports.Center2. Now you will need to set up the keys in DCS A-10C control settings which are mapped to the MFCD profiles in HawgTouch. HawgTouch comes with 2 MFCD profiles which are configured to the following keys: Left MFCD OSB1 through 10 - Left Control + 1 through 0 Left MFCD OSB10 through 20 - Left Control + Left Shift + 1 through 0 Right MFCD OSB1 through 10 - Left Alt + 1 through 0 Right MFCD OSB10 through 20 - Left Alt + Left Shift + 1 through 0 Here is in-game screenshot of the controls binding: You can set any key combination you want. Here are the key shortcuts: (Made identical to TouchPal for easier transition) {BACKSPACE} {TAB} {CLEAR} {RETURN} {LSHIFT} {RSHIFT} {LCONTROL} {RCONTROL} {LALT} {RALT} {PAUSE} {CAPSLOCK} {ESCAPE} {SPACE} {PAGEUP} {PAGEDOWN} {END} {HOME} {LEFT} {UP} {RIGHT} {DOWN} {PRINTSCREEN} {INSERT} {DELETE} {LWIN} {RWIN} {APPS} {NUMPAD0} {NUMPAD1} {NUMPAD2} {NUMPAD3} {NUMPAD4} {NUMPAD5} {NUMPAD6} {NUMPAD7} {NUMPAD8} {NUMPAD9} {MULTIPLY} {ADD} {SEPARATOR} {SUBTRACT} {DECIMAL} {DIVIDE} {F1} {F2} {F3} {F4} {F5} {F6} {F7} {F8} {F9} {F10} {F11} {F12} {NUMLOCK} {SCROLLLOCK} You can mix all sorts of shortcuts for your liking. Most will work but I can't gurantee crazy combos since I haven't checked it myself. Creating your own panels: HawgTouch gives you the liberty to create any panel you find useful for your simming pleasure. Take a peek at the TestPanel.xml file for information of how to use the different controls HawgTouch supports. With time and by request more complex controls will be added! UFC bundled in 1.1 (Thanks to jeffyd123 for the image works!) NOTE: The key commands for the UFC are not set! Once you set your UFC key bindings in-game, open up UFC.xml and fill in the KeyCommand slots! My setup: Download: HawgTouch 1.25 x86 [1.03MB] HawgTouch 1.25 x64 [1.03MB] Extract anywhere. In this version the last known position of the panels is not saved. You will have to manually set it to the specific panel. To help you achieve that a new button has been added to the panels which shows the current windows X/Y positions. Once you are happy with your position you can type that data into the panel XML and it will be launched in the position you saved. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are running any Windows version with UAC enabled (Vista and higher) and you are running DCS A-10C as Administrator you will have to launch HawgTouch as Administrator aswell. Orelse the keystrokes wont be sent to the game. You will need .NET 4.0 to run this so if you don't have it installed make sure you run a Windows Update or download it from here : .NET Framework 4.0 Download Tested on WinXP 32/64, Win7 32/64 Enjoy! 10. Edit: I have traced the bug, improved timings and incorporated voice comms. Please see new thread for final version of the mission. Guys, this is a good, tactical, 2-ship, half-hour CAS/escort mission, air-started, with JTAC. I was inspired by film footage of Hogs flying in support of U.S. infantry in the mountains of Afghanistan and wanted to recreate the seat-of-the-pants mountain flying in the Caucasus region of DCS A-10. The mission is well evolved, enjoyable to fly/fight, thoroughly playtested and has a full briefing, range of events and triggers and radio messages. It's not really a Beta at all except... There is a DCS crash (failure) notice on exiting the mission that has been driving me around the bend. You still get the debrief but the failure disables my TIR, making a restart necessary and eliminates the track file for the mission. I cannot tell you how hard I have worked to eliminate the bug, which only appears to occur in this one mission, and did so in the A-10 Betas as well as in the release. I have tried different Maverick loadouts, disabling Windows Aero, updating my nVidia drivers but now find myself stumped and demoralised. I have a high-end gaming system with an nVidia G285. I think you will enjoy the mission, the flying and fighting are good and it accomplishes what I always seek in mission design in all high-fidelity sims, which is to compel the player to make a few tactical decisions under pressure. You should use your wingman, avail yourself of JTAC and respect the SAM-9 engagement envelope. It's a good CBU deployment mission. At MT + 30 min exactly you will get a message informing you of your success or failure. (And the individual infantry units are each named after my high school classmates, 35 years ago). I'd be really grateful if you could help me out here. It would be good to know if you all experience a similar issue or whether it's specific either to my system or to the way I play the mission, both of which seem unlikely to me. There must me some small mission design gremlin that is causing this; please help me identify him and squash him flat. .Miz attached. Thank you.

  11. Hi Accipiter, I haven't investigated the out of sync audio with the PNG sequence method any further, sorry. I also don't remember my case. I would suggest the following* in VirtualDUB: parameters as per post #10 import image sequence of a 20 s test material import generated audio make sure video FPS set in VD matches that of Record AVI tool File -> Save as AVI Does this procedure give out of sync audio? What do you use for playback and what do you play - image sequence or saved Lagarith AVI? If that produces an out of sync audio I would suggest (the following are options - not steps): constant time difference between video and audio => VirtualDub -> Audio -> Interleaving -> Audio skew correction time difference between video and audio varies => VirtualDub -> Video -> Frame Rate -> Change so video and audio durations match ** NOTE: It can be done without recompressing/quality loss using Direct stream copy mode http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/283633-Audio-interleaving-What-is-it http://www.engon.de/audio/vhs_en.htm http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-149247.html http://lparchive.org/techsupport/guide-desync.html time difference between video and audio varies AND we ran out of ideas => fiddle with the upper part of Audio -> Interleaving options, read about what they do. Try to simply disable audio/video interleaving. If it won't help try to work with smaller recorded fragments same as the procedure above (*) but without audio; open the AVI (Lagarith) that you prepared and then load audio from file Other software: you can always try to use other software to assemble a Lagarith AVI out of image and sound sequence; alternatively you can assemble Lagarith AVI without sound and do the sound syncing in the target video editor e.g. Sony Vegas or even Windows Movie Maker (note: proper video editors are called non-linear http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54182 ) there have to be more obstacles to be worth dropping all the Record AVI tool advantages :) (**) may cause unpredictable issues when exporting a non-standard frame rate (?), not tested BTW, are there any new output methods in DCS W?

  12. It`s that simple: You want an agricultural country = no nuclear power. You want a country with a powerful industry, manufacturing, trade, etc. = nuclear power. While some countries may go mainly agricultural, many cannot for a number of reasons. Nuclear energy gives you inmense power with lower cost and reasonable safety. Reasonable I say because how many deaths nuclear power plants have caused since they`ve been introduced? Yes there have been accidents and yes there have been radiation leaks but when you draw the line nuclear power has brought much more good than bad. Our technology for good or bad, our very existence is highly dependent on energy. And the demands for energy are ever increasing. There are places even whole countries where due to geophysical factors nuclear power is the only solution to this high demand. It is enough for some people to hear the scary word "nuclear" to make them feel uncomfortable. It`s not a curse, it`s a bless to be able to get so many energy from so little. We just need to use it properly and control it. Now about Fukushima, IMO some media are not trying to be realistic, but just for the sake of the news they are spreading the hype. I`m not interested in conspiracy theories, or how the government is lying to its people, how doom`s day has come, or some other editor fantasies. I`m interested in facts and expert opinions.

  13. Hey Madog, check out my modified mission file here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69085&page=2 With this version you can finish the 1st mission with 100% as chopper do the job. I also have modified the 2nd mission (will upload the file in the thread of my link above in 2 mins), where the F16 SEAD do their job too, and this mission is pretty cool (at least I liked it). I've finished mission 3 yesterday, that one doesnt need any modifs since its working ok. Will do mission 4 in a couple of mins, and will do modifs to it also if any are needed. Thanks.

  14. Well that's great you can. But look around you, do you have any idea how many eletricity was used when creating all those platic things lying around your table (and don't start to think about where the oil came from, mexican gulf maybe). Do you have any idea how many electricity is required for electrolysis when making alluminium. Everything you see around you required electricity to make. According to eurostat, only 28.2% of all electricity produced is consumed by households. My country gets 55% of electricity from atom (France gets around 78 from atom), and thats when using the less efficient (but safer) VVER reactors. Even if we disconnected all households from power, there still wouldn't be anough power without atomic power plants.

  15. Извините, если вам лично нравиться ползать перед Ф-15, то это ваше желание, но далеко не всех. Пусть и водители ведройдов почувствуют, что воевать надо, а не попивая кофе веером распускать 120-ки и драпать домой.

  16. Don't you miss having the ability to do full controller deflections by lowering your saturation though? You can't really complain about flight modeling if your controller stops several inches short of where it really should...

  17. He didn't give me details pertaining to procedure in operations, but during training you're really expected to know everything without reading, at least that's how it came across. They even grill you on these things and you're expected to tell them everything in perfect detail right then and there, IIRC. I also met with the east coast Strike Eagle demo team, and they didn't seem to use any checklists whatsoever when doing their stuff. I'm not trying to say that they'd never use checklists though - all I'm saying is that it appears as if if it's on paper, it's supposed to be in your head, too. Apparently a lot of people wash out for things like not being able to remember the checklists or being too slow in the pit, etc.

  18. Get some contact cleaner from Radio Shack. It's a hydrochlorofloromethane that dissipates after you spray it in the contacts or pots in the stick, which gets the crap out of them. Unplug it and spray the hell out of the inside of it. Make sure you let it dry for about 15min before plugging it back in. EDIT: btw.. be careful of spraying the contact cleaner on the outside plastic too much.. it can pit it.

  19. Thanks, StrongHarm - I did something similar but left the Y Saturation at 100%. Helps not just with AA refueling but in nearly all aspects of flight. Precise manouvers are much more stable but you retain full command authority over the control surfaces when you need it if you crank all the way over.

  21. Have to agree with Sticky here, but to bring this back around to the original topic it is important to understand that it does not matter how much internal energy a body of mass has or how “hot” it is, unless it is radiating energy in the form of infrared light the TGP cannot see it. I’ve taken many chemistry, thermodynamics and heat transfer courses obtaining two engineering degrees, and my day job is designing surgical navigation systems that employ infrared LEDs to track surgical instruments relative to the patient’s anatomy as part of a larger computer-assisted surgical system. We use infrared emitters for many of the same reasons that working in the infrared part of the spectrum benefits detecting targets on the battlefield, including: 1. Infrared light is relatively immune to interference from light in the visual part of the spectrum as well as other forms of emitted electromagnetic energy 2. Infrared light can be seen through many materials that obscure or block light in the visible part of the spectrum (e.g., water vapor) 3. Its wavelength is very short compared with emitted energy such as radio waves and therefore can be detected using very small sensors (as opposed to such things as antennae used to detect radio waves) and so offers excellent resolution for visual imaging

  24. Something you can try btw, for fun: lock up a target, and then fly sideways really fast. You'll find that you are unable (or close to) get the missile to track, since the sideways motion of the launch platform will cause the missiles to never find the cone. :) While a sort of worthless exercise on it's own, it might help indicate the limits you have on post-launch meneuvering. Another thing that I just remember that makes it harder to engage multiple targets simultaneously with the "proper" cone modeling in DCS:BS compared to FC1 though: the cone will continually reshape itself as the missile travels - wide cone at launch to enable the missile to "catch" the laser signal, and then during missile flight the cone will narrow down in order to ensure continued precise guidance of the weapon. This means that if you launch one weapon, and then a second weapon four seconds later, the laser cone will be set to the proportions of the first weapon and thus make it extremely difficult for a second weapon to gain guidance. Bit hard to describe it in words, but drawing it on paper makes it easier to grasp.

  25. In the current build, HT searches for the DCS window, set it as foreground and send keys to it. This is whats resulting the little "flashes". I've addressed that in the next build by setting HT as a non active window and sending the keystrokes to the currently focused window. This not only nullifies the "flashing" and sometimes keystrokes being missing but also enables HawgTouch to be used on any game that you are running. If you are running the simulator under Administrator privileges, you will have to launch HawgTouch as administrator as well. To do so, Right click HawgTouch shortcut or executable and select "Run as Administrator" (should have a little shield next to it). If you still can't get the keypresses sent try hitting multiple times and make sure that in your profile XML, the KeyCommand field is set to the appropriate key you mapped inside DCS A-10 control settings. If it still doesn't work PM me and I will do my best to help you troubleshoot this issue. I'm aware that long presses don't work currently. This issue have been addressed in the next version of HawgTouch. Tommy, your panels look incredible. First the wonderful MFCD and now the UFC! Thanks for putting effort into this :D

  27. There used to be a list floating around of all the things the Daily Mail says cause cancer. It was pretty long, and included both pregnancy and childlessness! Surely there's always a risk of an earthquake near a major faultline, whether there's been one recently or not (discounting aftershocks, which are practically a certainty when there's recently been a major earthquake)

  28. Yes, it's "real" behaviour. The thing is that you have to be very careful when doing it, since slewing too fast will move the laser cone faster than the missile can adjust it's flight path and cause the missile to end up outside of the cone - leading to a missile gone "ballistic". In FC1 with the 25T the cone was not modeled properly, making it "too easy". (I think the FC1 "beam" basically designated a spot instead of a laser cone, making it impossible for the missile to end up outside the non-existant cone. This was re-modeled for DCS:BS and the Skhval/Vikhr behaviour was inherited into FC2.)

  29. Cool! So adjusting the shkval adjusts where the beam that the Vikhr rides is pointing. I don't think i'll try using it as a normal technique, but it made good use of a missile that would otherwise have been wasted :)

  31. I just got to ask the question: Whose brilliant idea was it to build nuclear reactors on the coast in an area known for tsunamis anyway? At least build a wall around the plant! I would think that the cost of a 40 foot concrete wall to protect the facility against just this sort of thing would be insubstantial compared to the cost of the plant itself. Furthermore, how hard would it have been to build the facility a further 15 miles inland? Hopefully this is a wakeup call to all the contries around the world that have these facilities on their coastlines.

  32. Slightly OT, but when you refer to "cycling the door" do you mean the handle on the left upper console or the NWS switch? I use the latter to return to the "READY" light. Not that I need to, of course, merely speaking hypothetically. ;)

  33. Oh yea, the waste is the problem part of nuclear energy, no country knows exactly what to do with it in the long term, they say we will bury it or we will do this with it etc, but nobody really has a clue asto what they really want to do with it, hoping that future generations will figure out the answer. The problem is that whilst greener alternatives and normal fuel alternatives are available, compared to nuclear, they are extremely expensive and in the case of newer greener types, they are not a real viable alternative because they dont produce enough electricity to take over the jobs of either oil/gas/coal burning power stations and hydro electric. I just pray that what has happened in Japan has been contained, but it doesnt look like it has, workers being evacuated from the plant, rising radiation. Japan doesnt deserve this, no country does. 1.02 here

  34. Would you have preferred it if A-10C had never been released? Because in order to to model it "correctly", ED would have had to write a whole new game engine from scratch, which would have taken far too long and been too big of a task. Back in the real world, no it isn't perfect, ED know it isn't perfect. It is one of the many things that will improve as more modules are produced, but like everything else it's going to take time. But considering how it's done, as I've already said, it's pretty damn close to how the LITENING looks. And certainly a lot closer than ANY flight sim has managed to date. And the above ignores the fact that you don't seem to be hearing what others have said about IIR not being the gods eye view you appear to think it is. And no "an IR detector" is not the primary sensor the targeting pod is (be it LITENING II as in the sim, or SNIPER). There is a reason all modern targeting pods have CCD cameras as well as the IR cameras. Don't make the mistake of over simplifying things.

  36. Well if you mean that is not made by the ED standards, yes you have right but there are so many US fighter sim that is more logical to ask for a russian one. One that you haven't seen before. Shinigami Out.... Still hoping for a Mig-29M, in the mind time studding :book:

  37. And a little addition about time-and-spatial turbulence in DCS. I posted these pictures before but I think they could be interesting for new forum members. I think the pictures can make clear some items regarding the turbulence behaviour. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1138952&postcount=4010 The main point is that the turbulence vectors are correlated if they are taken within the certain interval. The more is the interval the less they are correlated like in RL. This model provides correlation length depending on altitude so the higher you are the smother is the turbulence. I mean not its standard deviation but the deviation between two point at certain distance.

  39. Wow! Your MFCD looks so awesome. I'm really liking it! I'm going to use it myself! I'll be looking into the crash issue when I get home from work (Yes, I work sundays :P) I'm sure its a little thing, I'll post a workaround or the source of the cause when I track it down! Thanks for the report Tommy!

  40. Paulrkiii, I should post pics of the 76th skin I'm working on for my 76th TFS Virtual squadron. It really looks badass. I'm doing it all by hand, using a warthog skull on the nose, and stuff from my virtual squadron. First one is of me (CO, closest to camera) and my XO. The second picture, as you can see has a light grey skull, is the line jet for the rest of the squadron. I still have a ways to go to get it all to line up just right, but here's what I have.

  45. From my experience in reading the code in EECH and trying to improve the code in their DC (which is from what I've seen inferior to the one in Falcon 4), it's not trivial, but it's certainly not the Herculean task GGTharos has been implying it to be. The biggest problem I've encountered is, as Speed mentioned, not generating the mission itself once you know what mission you want. For that, you start with generating an obviously poorly planned mission (say, you find a group of tanks that must be attacked, so you just find the nearest available Ka-50 or A-10C group, plot a direct course to the target, and voila, mission created), and you build from there (which is, like I said, not trivial, but not Herculean either). The major problem is indeed: OK, you wrecked that group of tanks. Now what? You have to generate new missions that take that into account: perhaps some of your own ground forces can now advance, or perhaps you schedule a new air mission do do damage assessment? This type of decisions isn't easy at all to model (the coding isn't the hardest part, at least not for me -- it's knowing WHAT to code). Not to mention the fact that even in the middle of a mission things can change. As GG and many others have said, it's a matter of priorities: ED's priorities are driven by their military contracts, and their military contracts do NOT include making random mission generators. It's fine that they don't want to do it -- it doesn't mean that it's incredibly hard, others have done it before and using computers that were equivalent to a modern iPad or something.

  46. How was that my strategy, exactly? I did start with the question. My original post opens: "Random question..." Followed immediately by "Is there any reason why X wouldn't work...?" I didn't make any baseless claims. In fact, I didn't make any claims of any kind. I said that it seems like using the random mission generator to plug missions into the existing campaign engine would be simpler than making a full-blown simulated war-style dynamic campaign from scratch. "It seems like, "as in "to me," as in "I'm speculating here, but feel free to chime in with your thoughts." Which nobody has even bothered to offer, actually. Instead, I just get a bunch of people jumping down my throat for having the temerity to ask the question in the first place, as though I'm somehow at fault for not knowing the answer beforehand. Lesson learned, I guess. Don't ask questions. Don't discuss the game's design unless you can program it yourself. You guys sure know how to make a new member feel welcome! No worries--I won't post here again.
