  1. Been waiting for quite a while to be able to finish my v2.1 of the Helios panel for A-10C and with the latest version, released just last night, I can finally call it complete. What do you think? Helios Front Panel. In sim front panel shot at the same moment. Both the Helios software (which is donation ware) and my profile (free of charge of course LOL) available at www.scsimulations.com These shots show the front instrument panel but in my profile there are 8 hidden pullout panels for Left and Right console, Radio panel, Airport Chart panel, UFC, TISL panel, CDU and Warning Panel, and Lighting Panel. You can view all of these in the A10C download section of the Helios site. Just look for the file Loz SM v2.1 If you like the look of it and you have a spare monitor to run it on then I cannot recommend Helios highly enough. A great addition to both this and Black Shark.

USB card is not installed yet, wiring needed and of course finalize it (paint etc). Thank you all for the inspiration! :) Thank you Reactorone for the files! Update I have create a diagram to show the way components are connected. Update

  3. Interesting book in pdf free from rand.org. "The air campaign conducted by the coalition air forces in the Kuwaiti theater of operations. The author describes the evolution of the campaign and the planning and control of air operations, assesses the effectiveness of various systems employed against the Iraqi ground forces, and discusses the factors that led to success." The mighty A-10 is discussed of course. http://www.rand.org/pubs/monograph_reports/2006/MR357.pdf

  5. I really think we need a topic with Ebay listings for those of us interested in building cockpits and looking for parts. You don't have to participate, but if you see something good that you think others might be interested in, post it. I'll start: InterCom Panel - Not in the greatest condition and doesn't have all the knobs as in the A-10, but it's close. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aircraft-Andrea-Radio-Intercommunication-Set-Control-Panel-C-2106A-AIC-18-/140631773359?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item20be4e90af Oxygen Regulator: I'd actually get this myself since it's super cheap, but I just bought Pitbldr's UFC. http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-130-OXYGEN-REGULATOR-P-N-29255-10A-A5-/190603399929?pt=Motors_Aviation_Parts_Gear&vxp=mtr&hash=item2c60d912f9 A-10 ACES II ejection seat: http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-10-WARTHOG-ACES-II-EJECTION-SEAT-AIRCREW-PARACHUTE-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-/150698371506?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231652a9b2

  7. HM gov - 6 report Fr/007 To/M Class/secret D/201111 trn:21204012Z rcd:21204127Z Auth/pKQfijqsKAa5bE2tpnPLsdq7Dc46xwJsq9evBSMmt8xqEnK7qsRSwMc Txt/ M, One of my informants reported some strange movements on an airbase lost in the east of the Westerly region of the Southly Septentrionic Independent Barbarian Republic. He claims not to know the name of the airbase, and says it has never been mapped. I doubt it, especially in this era of satellites and electronic intelligence, but he is my only source for now, I can’t push him too hard. A few years ago, this base was home of some Su-25, after having been the refuge of MiG-25 (or MiG-31?) interceptors, right before they were scrapped in the last throes of the Soviet ogre. In the recent months, the nightlife has intensified in this remote place. Various aircraft seemed to be flying from there. As Security has not lost one ounce of the ferocity instilled by the "green shoulder boards" of the KGB, my informant has only sent me a few inconclusive snapshots, but interesting enough to get my attention: The photos showed aircraft equipped with afterburners, and what appears to be a four-engine AWACS radar aircraft. Other four-engined aircraft without dorsal antenna were also noticed. All this does not make sense with the activity that honest people are entitled to expect from a third rate airbase populated with rotting Frogfoots, don’t you agree? I ventured to recommend that Q, on your behalf, divert one of our American cousins’ reconnaissance satellites to learn a little more. I hope you will pardon me this liberty, and that the NRO will not notice the small changes in their programs too quickly... You will find enclosed the photographs provided by my agent, as well as Q’s satellite images. Would you mind put some of your brilliant analysts in London on the job? I would have asked them myself for this favour, but I felt it more useful to take the opportunity to go on site personally, in order to discover a little more by myself. To be in good standing with respect to our organization, I have filled out mission orders. You will also find them in this package and only need to grace them with your signature, backdated, it goes without saying. Yours sincerely, 007

  13. I have a source for those type of switches. Be aware that a 8501K9 is an eaton switch not a Honeywell. They both implement the same mill spec, but honeywell's will be silver and Eatons will be a dull bronze/brown color. It might be my imagination but the Honeywells have a little bit nicer positive click when switching positions.

  14. When you aren't sure your car has come to a complete stop because you didn't see a little green line shrink down to nothing. When pointing something out in the distance to a friend, you barely stop yourself from saying "you might need to make the bracket smaller" when s/he still can't see it. You reflexively turn toward a loud noise and then look down to your left to see if the button is lit.

  15. Cali, Yes, that is Eielson AFB Grime, They fly like that because it is an inactive aircraft ( unflappable for what ever reason) You can see the photo in Eielson.af.mil here is the Photo caption Eielson Hawg dismantled EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska--The team working on the inactive A-10, winches the aircraft into the C-5 for transport to the Robbins AFB, Ga. Museum of Aviation Flight and Technology Center Oct. 6 on the flightline. The aircraft was disassembled into six different sections in three days. This was the first time that an A-10A has been dismantled at field level. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Brian Hibbert)

  17. F-16 thoughts I know the f-16 has been done before, but it would be one of the most exciting jets to fly if it was produced by ED in the kind of fidelity we've seen so far! Love the Bubble canopy!

  18. The .miz file is actually a zip archive which contains certain files that the simulator looks for. The bulk of the mission information is contained in a text file called "mission" (no extension) inside it. You can extract it using 7-zip or WinZIP or rename the .miz to a .zip and use the zip capabilities built-in to the Windows shell. Edit the file using notepad++ or some other text editor (not sure if Notepad will break these files, but there's plenty of better editors available). The file is actually a Lua script which defines a bunch of data structures which are used by the game engine. Just have a look through it and find the section with the weather settings. You might need to try saving the mission with a few different settings and looking at the resulting mission file each time to work out how it's saved (I've not looked at the weather part specifically). Once you've made your change, overwrite the 'mission' file in the .miz with your updated one and try loading it. Just keep in mind that, even if you do it right, there's no guarantee the sim will 'correctly' handle unusual values. You might want to try to manually editing the file to include different but 'valid' settings in order to verify your procedure is correct, before moving on to more exotic values.

  27. A very interesting question re the DCS A-10C With the ferry range listed in various sources as 2240 nm I was curious to see what the sim could do non-stop, with no in flight refueling. I started out with full fuel, no weps, and 3 external 600 gallon fuel tanks. Zero wind conditions. Climb to altitude was slooow. Step climbed higher as fuel was burned and weight decreased. Adjusted airspeed to achieve an AoA between max range and max endurance, as shown on the AoA indicator. Jettisoned external tanks as they ran dry. (although I messed up with the center tank... releasing it while it still had some fuel in it.) At FL350 with external tanks gone and fuel remaining at approx 4000lbs, I was able to get the fuel burn down to 2000lbs/hr (total). As weight decreased I was able to reduce power and fuel burn. I did not try any higher than FL350. At 7 hours 30 minutes into the flight, both fuel low level caution lights came on with approx. 1000 lbs fuel remaining. On landing the total flight time 8 hours and 1 minute. Average fuel burn over the 8 hour flight was 2625 lbs/hr. Consumed approx 21000 lbs fuel, with 300 Lbs remaining on landing. At an average g/s of approx. 305 kts. I calculate the total distance covered in this flight at approx 2440 nm. ...and no, I will NOT be doing that again. :music_whistling:

  28. Thank you for the clarification! This ends the dispute indeed. So I was wrong. Wear is modeled at least for major components. I've never noticed. I guess the Ka-50 governors and limiters really do a good job then. Also a good point on why to go manual-startup. To learn why it was related to the DCS FL please refer to post #187. This is the first time I saw ED developer "OT-ed" by a regular forum member :D _________ Back on topic. Not another "Not like anyone gives a damn but I would like to see this aircraft!" though :P Imagine this level of fidelity! Dedicated to those who say flying without fighting is boring.

  29. It certainly was in the beta. It isn't a huge stretch to see this as a middle eastern conflict zone, or even as an invasion force from occupied California. I feel that the Georgia/Baltic reagion has been done to death, with a lineage tracing back to Flanker 2.0 back before the turn of the century. I am, for certain, biased, as I have flown all over the area IRL, but am very happy that the series is branching out a bit, as the Baltic region, though volatile, has seen very little warfare on the scales available in this sim. Though August 2008 had the potential.
