  2. Another simple modification for DCS series sims - a replacement crater/scorched ground effect texture. Installation is easy, just place VORONKI.tga into your Temptextures folder. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kk2b1v4g1hsix1e

  5. I think you would want something more like this where the counter weight has adjustable and at a raise angle so the support bar doesn't collide with the base during forward movement: I think the bend in the real stick is fairly low, lower than these diagrams suggest. Again it depends on your situation one size doen't fit all because people are different height, have their seats at different heights and have different designs of seat.

  6. Blue, while I agree that the AI FM is not as good as it could (should) be, the line has to be drawn somewhere. I think, based on your comments, that you believe the SFM to be more simplistic than it actually is. Making the adjustments you talk about wouldn't just be a case of changing one value a bit. Now I'm not saying it'd be difficult from a programming standpoint, because to be honest I'm just an Air Force man and computer programming is witchcraft to me so I can only make 'educated guesses' when it comes to such things. But there is a lot more to even the smallest tweak to the sim than a little code change. Every change to the sim has to be weighed against everything else and a decision made on what is to be done, and what isn't based on importance, cost, available time and impact on other projects. When the Devs have done their thing every little change has to be tested and if there are problems the devs have to take another look, then tested again. All of this takes time. Every time people such as yourself make a suggestion on these forums, you need to remember that there simply isn't enough time to do everything so in order for the tweak to the AI FM you are asking for to be made, someone else's request (be it another forums member, a tester, dev or producer) has to left out. It's not that anyone is ignoring you (or anyone else), the ED team do listen to the community. Also remember that apart from a few exceptions, most of the ED team are Russian and many of them do not speak English so they don't (can't) see what is posted on the English forums. For that reason those of us on the test team highlight any sensible/important ideas & suggestions in the private area of the forums to save the few members of ED from having to work through thousands of posts. That is not to say that everything we suggest makes it into the sim, far from it in fact, or that the people like Wags don't read suggestions and take them on board. Rest assured, your suggestion has been noted, but at the same time don't be offended if it doesn't make it into the sim. Yep, seen the same things myself on the few occasions I fly offline. I agree the AI FM is too simple, but for the reasons already outlined it's not possible to make everything perfect overnight. Improvements are being made and specific issues fixed where possible.

  12. The Pitch up you describe is most likely not an additional input, but rather the AP control authority being removed on trim button press. The AP is not trying to maintain, +10 degree pitch with 11m/s climb rate, it is simply trying to maintain the attitude the aircraft was at when the trim was last released. If any part of the flight regime has changed since this time, like speed, the AP will have to do more to maintain the set attitude. As the change from the initial regime increases, going faster for example, the greater the AP inputs. Thus, when the trim is pressed again, and this AP control input is suddenly removed, the Aircraft will react to that sudden change in control input. Just because your aircraft is maintaining the set attitude does not mean you don't have to trim. You should trim very often as you accelerate - decelerate, climb - fall, or basically all the time, so the auto pilot is set for current flight regime, and isn't adding large control inputs. Better yet use the FD, it's much more fun. Nate

  13. I think it's important for people involved in an endeavor to be open to criticism, and not be so protective of their product that they become blind to good ideas. This is a good example of that. The observation is that there is a drastic difference between AI and player aircraft performance. There are times when AI performs maneuvers that defy the laws of physics, and this obvious discontinuity affects the user's suspension of disbelief. This is a perfectly valid observation, and frankly, I agree that it's an issue. I'm not sure why folks feel the need to trivialize the issue? I don't see any evidence of someone asking for a trivial "100m" tweak to braking distance...the difference in performance is on the order of thousands of feet. That's significant.

  17. Mind I can see a potential problem where the runway gets clogged up with AI dutifully taxiing at 5mph all the way to the end of the runway. It might have to be a bit more complicated like, Land, Decelerate to 50, untill 100m from last exit, decelerate to 15. Turn off. It is a bit more complicated. At my local military AB (not that I go there spotting or anything) the jets are always taking the last exit. I suppose Her Majesties RAF cannot quite afford to go through brake pads like the USAF does.

  26. Release Trim If your doing a running landing, release trim when you land on. Same for taxing, if you put a little forward cyclic to move, when you want to stop, release the trim. You can also add a slight bit of aft cyclic to slow yourself down.

  29. hmm no I dont think so, its a quadrophonic or something. However I dont mean it should actually calculate all of the vortexes or anything like that, it could just be, wheels on runway, runway wet, take the third exit. (TBH I dont really see the point of a lot of whats modelled, individual bullets and things going on out of sight somewhere between some AI. At least I think thats the sort of fidelity the DCS is at isnt it?, but really whats the point?) Its like those philosophical statements; if a tree falls in the forest, does it really make any noise. Well yes probably, but do I care if I dont hear it? I would rather the processor was making the AI around me look vaguely believeable. I Maiden are awesome arent they. Did you see Bruce was doing 1 hour long sim sessions in his own full motion 737 simulator, with him, for 666pounds! All sold out unfortunately...

  31. As for Android: check out "DCS MANAGER" in the market. https://market.android.com/details?id=fr.yeepeekai.dcs.manager&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImZyLnllZXBlZWthaS5kY3MubWFuYWdlciJd It's not that sophisticated as the iBrother, I must admit, but it gives you the basic information you need when in flight, i.e. checklists, emergency procedures and airport data information with very nice and usable airport charts. I'd like to see an Android version with fuel calculator (time, distance MTOW, MLW, WDC, calculated rotation speed etc) and NavAids. If there is an Android geek around pls give me a call, I am a real life pilot and could provide all the data necessary.

  32. Bug: After selecting Tanker Intent to Refuelt AI Tanker generates subtitles but no audio. Cause: \\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Tanker\Numbers\7000-end.wav missing or speech generator not concatenating \\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Tanker\Digits\7-continue.wav and \\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Tanker\Numbers\1000-end.wav as desired. Fix: Quick and dirty fix (because I've been unable to solve it in a more desireable way) is to copy the .wav files from \\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\AWACS\Numbers\ to the \\Sounds\Speech\Sound\ENG\Common\Tanker\Numbers\ folder. The speech will sound a little disjointed because the voices are different, but it beats having to look at the subtitles (I intend to disable them once I get everything sorted out). Hopefully the next patch includes the missing sound assets (most desirable) or the scripts are rewritten to concatenate from the digits (least desireable because nobody calls out their altitude as seven zero zero zero, seventy-five hundred or seven-thousand five-hundred is the norm). If you don't care about this and you'd rather the digits be read out you can simply change lines 801-809 of common.lua: Old: Altitude = { make = function(self, alt, country, accuracy) base.assert(alt > 0.0) local altitudeUnit = countryUnits[country].altitude return self.sub.At:make() + ' ' + self.sub.Number:make(u.adv_round(alt * altitudeUnit.coeff, accuracy or 1.0)) end, sub = { At = Phrase:new({_('at'), 'at'}), Number = Number } } New: Altitude = { make = function(self, alt, country, accuracy) base.assert(alt > 0.0) local altitudeUnit = countryUnits[country].altitude return self.sub.At:make() + ' ' + self.sub.Digits:make(u.adv_round(alt * altitudeUnit.coeff, accuracy or 1.0)) end, sub = { At = Phrase:new({_('at'), 'at'}), Digits = Digits } } As a side note, making either of the above changes also allows you to increase the accuracy of the tanker's altitude reporting by editing line 147 of NATO.lua to read: self.sub.Altitude:make(message.parameters.altitude, message.sender:getUnit():getCountry(), #.#) Where #.# is the desired degree of accuracy, i.e. 100.0 will have the tanker report his altitude in thousands and hundreds of feet. The default is 1000.0.

  33. Hmm... Not lua developer myself, but it seems that the order of the items is not guaranteed with associative tables. Nothing you can do prolly. Here's samples how to overcome (I think), but that's something ED should do when reading the table in the templates options: http://lua-users.org/wiki/OrderedAssociativeTable Or?

  37. Flap gauge isn't custom made for the A-10, but rather COTS equipment. You get ten extra degrees of indication for free! A custom gauge would take eight years to develop, four years to procure, cost US$8 billion in dev budget (a bargain at only 120% over budget) and still lack indication of fully retracted condition due to an oversight in the specs. There would be outrage when the contract was won by a European company building it in Oregon, instead of by a US company building it in China... ;)
