  1. Some more system modelling - today are Warning Lights with Master Caution Reset. New failures make the warning lights blink until Master Caution Reset is pressed.

  3. Folks please don't derail the thread with subscription chatter, we have said many times in the past its not something that will work for DCS, and we have no plans for it. Topic here is Pacific Operations Assets Pack | Mission Save Development Progress | New Free Trials thank you

  4. The Zero is a big deal. It was one of the most feared planes of WWII and a game-changer in the Pacific, especially early on. We’ve been asking for it forever, and when it finally shows up, we get… a throwaway line? Come on. This thing deserves a proper Hell yeah moment, not a footnote. -I'm just saying the announcement on this is pretty underwhelming, that's all. But I'm still happy!!!

  5. Ships and other unit damage model improvements are planned for the future, it wont happen soon as we already have a lot of work to do. We have adjusted some warheads recently and that will help, and we are also working on better fragmentation that will also enhance the current implementation. thank you

  6. Vulkan API, if more than just a thin wrapper, and really implemented well could be a massive improvement in performance under certain scenarios. Particularly, for VR users, "rdr CPU" - which often spikes VERY high when a lot of objects come on screen. In the Vulkan implementation can get that under control it might half the rdr CPU demand. When you understand that app CPU + rdr CPU must be below the same MS frametime as GPU (so in 72hz native mode, app CPU + rdr CPU must remain below 13.3 or so) we can see just how important this is to ensure locked FPS in demanding single player campaigns or scripted missions when a lot of units come on screen. My understanding was that they have had vulkan API up and running for a while but it sounded like they wanted to push harder on the implementation to unlock more performance boost. Indeed, if Vulkan API can boost not only average FPS, but clear up rdr CPU bottlenecks, it could be a real game changer for many users - especially VR users. I really hope we will be hearing/seeing/experiencing more on this front in the not too distant future. It has been a very long time coming.

  7. Agreed, we can not please everyone all of the time, but hopefully along the journey of DCS development we can bring some fun and joy to people who love the combat flight sim genre. We get lots of private messages from people who want to complain or want to tell us how much they like DCS, the forum is only a snap shot of what is going on. Overall I feel its positive feedback we are getting, but we will always listen to the negative feedback, it gives us insight and often gives us new ideas to work on. thank you

  8. You are under some misconception about what we are working on. First of all more than half of our team work on the core of DCS, you can see the core of DCS at the start of each change log, it is a huge focus for the team. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/ Then we have teams that work on modules, teams that work on terrains, artist, back end / infrastructure staff, marketing, community and many more departments. The teams work extremely hard, there will always be bugs to fix, its the nature of DCS and its complexity, and the project managers decide what tasks are priority or not. That choice wont always align with what you want or what I want, but they are the best people to decide which work gets done as they have the full picture of current and future work being done. Hi Cfrag, good to see you return. I dont agree about your comments, if anything quality has improved in DCS, but DCS is also growing and with that the complexity. Subscription model would not fix what you think is wrong, we have a team that is large enough for the work being done, but that has to happen at a steady rate and with it new module releases for revenue, a subscription model is not planned. thank you

  9. AGM-45 should be able to track sidelobes and backlobes since that is a basic requirement for ARM seekers. The HARM in DCS can also suffer from the same issue regarding sidelobes if the HARM were to attack from directly above the radar threat, thus this is indeed an ED weapon issue. Also, if the AGM-45 was able to pick up the SA-6 TR no matter the direction prior to launch but fails to guide post launch, that's a discrepancy between how the AGM-45 works while on the plane (HB side) and when it guides as its own entity (ED side).

  10. Hi all, in anticipation of the Corsair update where the YE-ZB navigation will be fixed and the sectors shifted 15° counterclockwise, I prepared M08 - "YE-ZB Navigation" already. Complete with new kneeboard page and I adapted the LUA script that displays the morse code as a text message (if you have problems decoding morse codes by ear). Once the update is available, I will update my uploaded campaign as well.

  11. In my opinion some are not minor errors: having ATC to give the wrong IAF for approaching the runway in bad weather? Or having the wingmen repeat endlessly the same things when they spot enemies? Or having wingmen crash on the tarmac? By citing Licence Conditions to defend ED position for the huge list of accumulated issues means throwing away the concept of "passion and support". There are incredibly talented community members who work hard to maintain fantastic solutions for DCS (without which I fear DCS wouldn't be what it is today) and campaign creators who put in a tremendous amount of effort to provide us with decent missions. It's high time for ED to do its part and dedicate the necessary time to fixing the legacy, otherwise we risk making life difficult even for those who are passionate about it. (BTW: I honestly don't think they'd even dream of mentioning the licensing terms. Luckily they are not an Insurance company )

  14. The group included planes and crews of the guards units of the Long-Range Aviation: a squadron of Tu-16 of 251st guards TBAP from Belaya Tserkva and two squadrons Tu-22M3 from Poltava 185th Guards TBAP. They were stationed at two nearby airfields, Mary-1 and Mary-2, the only ones available at that time, even if they were further from the target than the border bases (for the "long-range" the difference of 200-300 km was not significant). Mary-1 was home to the 1521st Fighter Air Base MiG-23 and MiG-29, which "played along" as the enemy during the training and periodic inspections of fighter pilots. Here 11 Tu-16s were deployed - three detachments and two control group vehicles. There was a local airport on the other side of the runway, which was another reason for the division of the Long-Range Aviation group. Mary-1 airfield was also used to receive "transporters" with the withdrawing troops, UN representatives were invited there, and the menacing -looking "Backfires" did not fit well into the ideas of Western diplomats about the implementation of the Geneva Agreements. 16. Ive been active on the form since 2011, yes we do see posts like this occasionally, and I get it, for some it is frustrating when we do not do what they wont or how they want it. Everyone has wishes, hopes and dreams and when those are not realised it can be frustrating. Hopefully most of you enjoy DCS and want to see it continue to grow, and it is growing which is great to see, new people joining and falling in love with DCS.

  17. Am I the only one that get a very strong "Groundhog Day"-Vibe from the forum? On Topic: I'm with DCS for five years now. As far as I can tell, it has improved a lot. Both, regarding stability AND performance (granted, part of the latter has been eaten up by new features and eye candy). But what would be the alternative. Have a perfectly stable and performant DCS with the looks and features from 2020? No thanks!

  18. I believe that the decline in DCS's quality is quite obvious, and the reason why ED can't prioritize fixing what's wrong is equally obvious: they must sell new stuff, they have no time to finish stuff that they sold yesterday. ED have actively decided against a steady-revenue-stream model (a.k.a. "subscription"). That (a subscription model) could allow ED to fix many of their current shortcomings, and - yes - it would alienate many of their existing customers. TBH, ED offends those anyway with their current neglect. And that is of little consequence, because existing customers are only relevant for a company to keep happy should these customers subscribe. We currently don't, and aren't kept happy. Because we don't matter. IMHO DCS' quality is in freefall for all but the cash cows. ED seem to have adopted the "Kodak strategy": "we've been successful for so long, so we must know what we are doing". Then, Digital Photography killed Kodak. Let's not forget, Steve Sasson, a Kodak Engineer, invented the digital camera. So Kodak was uniquely positioned to grow BIG. They thought they knew better. Kodak went bankrupt in 2012, after more than 120 years of phenomenal success. Kodak's Ektachrome is *still* the best film I ever used. That didn't save them. DCS is still one of the best FS around. I don't think that alone will save ED. DCS must also become a good *game*. ED know how to make a good FS. IMHO, they have no idea how to create a good, engaging game. Look at their content, content creation tools, look at how they engage with us, their *fans*. "Bleak" is what comes to my mind. So, subscriptions to help finance fixing the core, and re-tooling DCS to become engaging: now that's a monumentally tall order. Low product quality and lack of engagement are the main reasons that I'm withdrawing from contributing to DCS. It pains me to witness DCS' current state, and I hope that I'm not watching a re-run of "The Kodak Story", the story about a great company unable to change. Change is hard. Hopefully not too hard for the developers of my favourite FS.

  22. If it were only the mission creators... No, seriously, I agree there are about three or four aircraft carriers worth of gross register tonnes of things that ended up 'on the backlog' for who knows how long. Literal bugs of things not working, plenty of issues of things kinda working but definitely not right and a plethora of things that weren't exactly cutting edge back then but are frankly hideous design choices today. But I think we all know what ED's reply is going to be. 'It's complicated and takes time', 'We don't have time to work on it because there are so many other things that need doing' and the classic 'provide a track!'. P.S.: While I'm sure someone will kindly point out how I am not a software developer and thus have no idea about that, it isn't made better by the fact that a lot of these things (mind you definitely not all) are pretty much copy/paste jobs for an afternoon, which we know, because community members, past and present, have provided these fixes in mods previously.

  23. I wish ED would stop working on new features for at least a year and just fix the huge amount of accumulated bugs. Even after years and many fixes, the warehouses don't work and it's hell for the creators of more complex missions and they have to shut them down in the end. Every update is usually a bigger or smaller disaster and often brings more new bugs than they fix. I'm sure many mission creators have given up on DCS for these reasons. Today I'm tired of DCS bugs again, I have to take a medical break.

  24. I think a lot of it just has to do with the fun factor. You're jumping in, getting your slice of the (admittedly unlimited) pie, feeling that little extra bit of expectation. There's also the idea of showing support to the developer and the sim in general. And the savings of course.

  26. Final update on the Pico Ultra... After one month testing it has been already sold to the next owner... To recap, the setup was easy, the Cons is that one needs to buy the Virtual Desktop from Pico store, cheap but still.... Nice quality, I was running all ta max resolution, the only Cons is the Pico lenses distort the image around their outer perimeter thus making the usable Field Of Vision much smaller. Unusable in warbirds where you need to clearly see controls to the left and right lower end of the cockpit (when you need to twist you body to the extreme to reach things). Still unable to read these tight areas of the cockpit. Otherwise nice visuals overall. I have not tested in jets where one has less body twist to reach and see things. Still A/B comparison with my Quest3, the Quest3 has larger FOV and it is lighter. The face interface it is much softer and comfortable, while the Pico Ultra is kind of hard face interface and hard on the top of the nose. To conclude, to date, the Quest 3 is still be best VR headset quality/price, but one need to master the Meta app and most of all the Oculus Diagnostic tool and best to register as Developer to open up other settings. Looking forward the next gen of Quest. I may give it a try to the Pimax even if the price it is hard to digest.

  29. Most settings are high/max but I did lower shadows to low and clouds to standard to help provide some headroom. 90hz gives frame time of 11.11 but 72hz give 14 ish. Interestingly the Crystal OG at 120 hz Gave a Solid 8.33. No 120 hz option with the Super at this time unfortunately. if you don’t already do the following please try: Task Manager Details tab Right click on DCS (after log in) Select Priority and set to High, NOT Realtiime) Should help. But has to be done everytime you log in.

  30. Looking at DCS objectively, one has to recognize what an incredible achievement it is. The sound design alone is a marvel. Yes, there are some "weirdities" here and there, but I've noticed that ED has "the eye on the ball" and are steadily patching up stuff. Many fixes have not impacted me, and I often view them as a disappointment. Which of course a completely emotional/subjective thing. When looking at changelogs I allways look for stuff I personally would see improved. Sometimes it is there. Other times not. ..and I can not believe why they didn't adress that. All in all I can't believe how lucky I am to be able to take part in the experience. -A huge source of joy, and also one of some frustration. But when frustrated; I try to remember my first line here: It is an Incredible, almost unbelievable achievement.

  31. "A decline in DCS's quality is quite obvious". Not to me. Yes, I know there are bugs, but IMO, it's better than it was say 2-3 years ago. ED have seemingly learned to reduce the amount of "overpromise and under-deliver" for one thing. The forums are significantly quieter than they were. As part of that, I do believe that testing has improved, which is probably why the circling dead aircraft issue still exists. Slapping out what might appear to be a very simple fix into a very complex model can create substantially more trouble than it solves long term. It's also worth considering that every time a new terrain or module is added, that the unit will need ongoing maintenance, refinement and patches to meet changing standards. As there's been a LOT of new modules in say the last 5 years, that's a LOT of effort being required. Personally, I believe that ED do a good (no, not perfect) job of balancing their workload. Above all, I also own the other key sims (both Civ and combat), yet spend pretty much all of my time in DCS. That to me is the final arbiter of the quality of their product.

  32. That's very fair. The best you can do is watch out for the hype videos leading up to it. I'd approach it with the same logic I approach Star Citizen; if it's good? I won't mind paying full price to guarantee that. Do you want to gamble $56 or spend the $80 on something you confidently know you'll enjoy.

  33. I updated my site last week but forgot to post it here for you guys to see. The update included an updated site UI as well as a quiz page for you guys to test yourselves on the RWR library. You can change number of quiz questions, what symbols are tested, what threat categories are tested, and some additional hints for those who would like to make it trickier or easier when testing themselves. You can also share a link to your results with others if you want to show off lol. Also, one of the other changes I didn't previously mention that I had implemented was that the respective RWR symbol is now included for each sound in the RWR where possible. Feel free to post any suggestions or feedback! https://officialdsplayer.github.io/F-4E-RWR-PRF-Library/quiz.html

  35. From your post count and your knowledge it's clear you've been playing for decades, and that's amazing. But you have to understand that probably the majority of us aren't as passionate about the game as you are, and in the end ED cannot survive on a handful of whales buying everything. Right now they're hyping up the WW2 stuff with the Corsair, ww2 Marianas, asset pack, etc. Yet you have zombie planes still flying in circles after being destroyed, and it's been that way for two months. Do you honestly think that's acceptable?

  36. See BeyondATC for another sim. https://www.beyondatc.net/features For actual ATC work there needs to be a system inside DCS and that ED needs to code/overhaul, which they are doing as per previous newsletters throughout the years. It is a bit meaningless to have audio interaction with an AI and no sim reaction to that, like AI planes obeying to ATC and the ATC managing actual traffic (to be fair, they do a bit) among other many things.

As mentioned in another thread in this forum it would be a pity to miss ESFJ, i.e. Sjöbo/Björka which is a Swedish military reserve airfield (roadbase) complete with a main airstrip and reserve roadstrips and dispersed hangars and parking slots for aircraft. Sturup (ESMS) which has been confirmed as part of phase two will be a very nice addition but it's not a military airfield and seldom used as such while Björka would add a realistic base for Swedish military aircraft on this map and it's actually within the given phase 2 border already. 40. They have been running their business for almost 35 years, can you tell me which other simulation software company has run as long? No, microsoft doesn't count ... their original Flight Sim series ran from 1982 to 2009, and their current FS 2020 series was comissioned to a french software house, with no relation to the prior product, while IL-2 dates from 2001 ... so ED seems pretty sucessful to me.

  43. Unfortunately, after many hours of trying to fix some things in code, I decided that we will go back to normal Su-25A simplified weapon control panel. Mixing avSimpleWeaponSystem with FC3 causes some interfierence and bugs that I am unable to fix with code. So, for the sake of simplicity and better user experience, weapon controll panel will work- like in Su-25A Dont worry - still clickable I also added A/G / A/A selector, reworked ripple and interval selectors for su25a avionics and added jettison and main arming panel (master arm, LA override, cannon load) There might still be some bugs, but the main functionalites are working, and I'd like to finish the mod even with some impurities to fix for later.
