Making a choice for a system setup
Taz1004 replied to TheGrandDuke's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had i7-4790K OC'ed to 4.6Ghz. Which should be marginally faster than stock i5-8400. And I had 32GB DDR3 at 2200Mhz and GTX 1080 (not Ti) And since I can't buy GPU right now, I only upgraded the CPU, MB, and RAM to Ryzen 5600X and 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz. 3 component cost me $700. Result, I'm getting about 2ms faster frametime in VR. Not sure what that translates to flat screen but I'm surprised that I actually got some frame rate improvement with no GPU upgrade. Loading is about 20-30% faster and I used to get some stutter with a lot of ground activity and that's gone. You will definitely see improvement from just adding more RAM. I'm just sharing my experience so you can get an idea of what you'd get from upgrading other components for $700. -
Did eBay get better? Seller scammed me and sold me dead graphic card. I went back and saw the pictures of his posting and it had heatsink screws removed. And his posting also said it was never overclocked. It was clear evidence of scam but eBay took 8 months to refund my money. Never used them since then but that was long time ago. I wonder if they have better protection?

Possible in some modules like Viper, you can skip by pressing spacebar or doing the action it asks early. Which I like. But like Hornet, you can't skip and you can't do the action before the text ends. Otherwise you have to perform the action again. Time accelerate is only way in those cases.

Barthek's previous version which he was kind enough to keep it downloadable as Legacy version, is much better at lower altitude. Some fly high altitude jets, some fly low level helos or ground attack planes. It's best to have options. Not sure if he fixed the red airfield markings on the Legacy version however.

I had no crash before this patch. No 2nd mission crash. But now I'm getting constant crash upon mission exit like @Baz000

NVM, it's working now. Maybe it needed time to register or something. Strange.

Yes, I've looked up what the error is. Thing is, today, I realized my Windows date and time was wrong. It was set to Auto but saw that last time it synced was 4 days ago. So I clicked on "Sync now" button to set it to correct time. And now I'm getting this error in DCS. No other setting was changed in Date and Time. Time zone was set correct before and now. Only thing I did was press "Sync now" Fix for this is to set the correct time. But I'm getting this error by setting correct time.

First online racing competition held by Papyrus, 6 of the top 10 finalists were driving in chase camera. There's no right or wrong. It's a game. It's like telling a lefty they're doing it wrong. And I do it in a turn just fine. Autopilot is just assist. It's not automatic. Again, I'm not saying this is the proper way or this is the way pilots do it. I'm certainly not recommending this to anyone who's already adept at AAR. This was for anyone who's still having frustration after hours of practice as evident by the numerous Auto AAR mode request.

I find boom to be a lot easier. Keeping it steady is not the issue. It's keeping my eye on the pylon and then using peripheral vision for basket thing just doesn't work for me. I see it in my peripheral vision but if I'm focusing on its position, then I lose focus on the pylon even tho I'm looking at it. Maybe because I can only focus on one thing at a time. Everyone's different.
-
I have never failed to connect the first time using this method. I actually got much better at it than in that video that doing it in turns is also not a problem. There are numerous threads asking for Easy AAR mode like auto start because it's only frustrating them. I don't have Harrier so I can't comment on that but this is a game. You're supposed to enjoy than be frustrated. The thing is that you guys are already used to the method. This is for people who can't get that method.
-
I'm on lounging chair so I'm pretty sure comfort is not an issue. Like I've said, biggest issue with the common advice. Keep eye on the pylon and use the peripheral vision. I simply do not have the peripheral vision.

Once again, I'm sure anyone can come up with any reason to dislike any product. I really do not care. I just think it's sad to see people to make wrong choice based on incorrect assumptions of others. And your last point is not possible. It needs an API. Maybe MS can integrate the API into DirectX. But still needs settings as not all headsets are same. And I agree too many settings are too complex. Which is why I said "Also not having to deal with WMR is one less headache."
-
I don't really care what anyone buys. I don't work for HTC. I'm just correcting mis-information for others. Vive needing dedicated gaming room being another. Also not having to deal with WMR is one less headache.

Just WIP version on previous page.
-
You're using old version. However, you can fix with the tip below.

Not me. Why is your surrounding area black? Mine is blue. Any mods? I'd say try reinstalling all VR software including SteamVR. Also cleanup and repair DCS. Delete fxo and metashaders2. If that doesn't work, also try force increasing IPD distance in DCS

Rift tracking is not lighthouse tracking. Rift is horrible. Take up too many USB ports and need 3rd sensor for rear. Lighthouse tracking is passive. It doesn't need to connect to your computer. 2 sensors cover all area including looking straight down. They're independent and only need power. There's no convenience issue. It is true Rift gave bad rep for Vive.
-
Lighthouse tracking is still being used simply because it still is the best. I admit it is not the most cost efficient (especially since recent price increase) but even that is mitigated since Vive, Vive Pro, Cosmos, and Index users don't have to buy again. This headset only upgrade is what kept me on HTC path since the beginning. Lighthouse I got with original Vive is still going strong. And I leave it on 24/7. And you CAN use multiple headsets with just two lighthouse. Your kid can play different VR game with your older headset in same environement while you're playing DCS. Tracking is perfect except it does have one flaw. It wont work in large open spaces or room with lots of big windows as IR pulses will escape.

Good VR Performance, but only when "Window is out of focus!"
Taz1004 replied to a topic in Virtual Reality
If you type GPU in start search and go to Grphics Settings, there's option for Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. If you don't have that option, then you must be on older Windows. What version? -

Is HAGS disabled? Typically it is expected to have better frame rate with the game out of focus because it is not reacting to any input. It is just output at that point. Game is polling your input every frame. And all the avionics and AI (your wingman for example) reacts to your input every frame. -
cannot reproduce F-18 radar - TWS - constantly loses track

Thanks! -
Quick draw would be useful if IR sensor actually locks onto the intended target. I fire, move the cursor to another target, press TMS up and it always snaps to same target I already fired on. Until I get closer. So I do same thing @silverdevil does. Original question was whether if there is an option to alternate. It sounds like there isn't so I'll live with it.

Where do you adjust this setting? I searched the manual and couldn't find. -

Since Google was hacked recently, instead of improving their security, they decided to declare entire internet unsafe. Only sites with SSL certificate to have "secured" rating. I'm not gonna pay $100-$200 a year for SSL certificate especially since Google, Facebook, and many global SSL certified sites are still being hacked with SSL. And there are misconception about SSL. All it does is encrypt data in transit. So it's difficult for hacker to intercept. While this is important if you're accessing your online banking for example, it doesn't detect malware. If you download virus, it will be encrypted virus. Malware detection is done on your computer with or without SSL. I have now switched over to Edge. New Edge is based on Chromium so performs as well as Chrome. But has much better privacy setting without these nuisance of Chrome. I can restrict data collection which I couldn't with Chrome. And better integration with Windows. It does use more RAM however. -
I think I got it. Different place in Regedit based on this MS doc. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/wer/collecting-user-mode-dumps?redirectedfrom=MSDN Below is the Key you have to add. Crashed twice today and dumps didn't get created. It's classified as "User-Mode Dump" and that's why it wasn't working with other Regedit.
