New crater textures are now 2048x2048 resolution each. It used to be 256x256 (upper part in the image below). And now they're all 32bit (I'm not even gonna go there anymore). And now they have roughmet textures too. Also 32bit 2K. Crater texture in my old mod (shown below) was still 256x256 and 8bit so you can get good crater without going crazy in size. As a test, you can try below to see if it helps. I made them 1024x1024 and 8 bit. Still too large in my opinion. Should be no more than 512x512. Crater Textures

You using the original on first page?

I noticed that it only uses 17GB when on Caucasus and takes up whole 32GB when on Syria. Syria by itself is taking up 51GB of my drive space too. I saw that most of it was clipmap...

That's actually the opposite. Unless someone intentionally Photoshopped it, pictures straight from camera in most cases are desaturated. I just took picture of my lawn with my phone and the image on the phone is darker and desaturated. What I see with my own eyes is much brighter and vibrant. Actually more vibrant than Caucasus example photos I posted. If you go to famous national park in person, colors are much more beautiful than in pictures. And this is what most people are trained to. They look at YouTube video or picture of aerial shot and assumes faded scenery is realism. It's "Photo" realism. What the camera sees, not your eyes. Just like depth of field and motion blur in games. These are camera effects and people are trained to believe that they're "realism" And there already is excellent desaturated texture pack by LucShep. Barthek's being more colorful always gave us another option.

You know also, I just put my reading glasses and my monitor looks huge... well everything looks huge. I put on my driving glasses and everything looks small. Obviously my IPD hasn't changed from my reading glasses to driving glasses. If you wear glasses and you take them off to put on VR headset, that may throw you off on scale too.

I'm requesting because yours has been my favorite. I know many are complaining the Caucasus is too colorful and cartoonish but Caucasus actually is one of the most colorful region. As you can see from satellite. But you're right that getting the right balance making it colorful without looking cartoonish will be tricky. Some aerial references of Caucasus different season. https://www.airvuz.com/video/Caucasus-aerial-by-Action-Brothers?id=5aec47387fae5349fa407e45&ccid=5b047ba329cf654765e0db12

Bad response and performance AI flight
Taz1004 replied to Animal66's topic in A-10C Operation Piercing Fury Campaign
You need to quote me for me to get notified. Maybe you already figured it out but it's under mission goals. Delete the 5 points for each landing and increase the score for mission completion. -
I turn on the camera of my Vive Pro as overlay. Place real world object like tip of water bottle to a corner of left MFD. Make sure it's placed exactly on the corner by looking at it from all angles. Place another on the right MFD. Measure the distance of bottle with tape measure. My finding is that setting it to actual IPD of my eyes is the correct dimension. Incorrect sense of scale sometimes comes from incorrect focal length of each eyes. Not IPD. Like if you look through binocular, your IPD is correct but everything will look big.
-
And if you've done the Lens mod on Vive Pro, you can actually increase FOV further. Increasing the physical IPD pulls left/right lens and screen apart giving you bigger FOV. This technique doesn't work if you have default fresnel lens with small sweet spot but because GearVR lens eliminates sweet spot and all part of the lens is clear, increasing IPD effectively gives you bigger FOV. I set my Vive Pro physical IPD to max 75mm (You can actually spread them out further by "gently" moving the lens directly by hand instead of the knob) and set in-game IPD adjustment to my actual IPD. This physical Lens IPD adjustment is another advantage of Vive Pro.

No way to decouple mouse cursor from head tracker in VR?
Taz1004 replied to Skwirl865's topic in Virtual Reality
No. People misunderstand this issue when they say there is a way. There currently is no way to achieve this. My advice, use the mouse to get the pointer close to where you want to click. Then keep the mouse still and use the head for small movement. This at least makes it somewhat tolerable as it is both head and mouse moving together that's making it harder. -
I did report the bug. It's simple. GBU-12 has bigger warhead than Maverick. Maverick kills infantry equidistance as GBU. But GBU does not. You don't need declassified data to know it's wrong. Collecting declassified data is not our job. You can choose to do so and you can knock yourself out. It certainly is not my JOB. Good thing is this is what YOU think we should do. Not ED's actual requirement for bug reporting. Good god can you imagine if we have to collect declassified data to report bugs?

Umm... no, that's ED's job. I'm here to play.

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9
Taz1004 replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
No idea. Never seen that before. Post a track and the mission? -
Does it matter? Point is that Maverick kills them and GBU doesn't. You can measure them. It's the default A10C Instant action Georgian Foothills Summer Medium. Closest I think is about 100 feet. Furthest 350.
-
On the other hand, I think blast radius of Mavericks are too large. Below is same target (Shilka) destroyed with AGM-65D and GBU-12. All infantry near and far are dead with Maverick and all alive with GBU. Even the ones pretty close to the explosion. Destroyed with Maverick. Dead soldiers far away. Destroyed with GBU-12. All alive. Closer ones I circled were actually even closer. They moved away when taking this shot.

Bad audio and squeaks aren't the usual complaints of Vive Pro so my guess is you probably got a defective unit. There's 3rd party software that basically squeezes more pixels in smaller display area which makes screendoor less noticeable by increasing detail level. By default, Vive Pro was drawing a lot larger image than what you can see through the lens. About 30% more on my Vive Pro. SteamVR's latest beta 1.17.8 seems to have included this feature as FOV adjustment. Motion smoothing was fixed in 1.16 through fixed throttling and additional prediction setting. This on top of DCS 2.7 run smoother and stable than it ever did. And my PC is still very outdated i7-4790K and GTX1080. However, I never recommended Vive Pro to my clients unless they needed wireless option because I agree it's not great out of the box. It needs to be modified. But most of the mods are easy and makes huge difference.

Better Smoke V22 for DCS 2.9
Taz1004 replied to Taz1004's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I didn't create the wavy motion. I actually turned it down from default. It's called perturbation factor or something in smoke.fx -
I fixed it by changing WP1 of C130 from "Landing" to "Fly over point". With altitude set to lowest. It wont divert since it's not landing and it's set to crash as soon as it enters the zone short of runway. By the way, for your sanity, eliminate the extra points for wingmen landing in the mission goals.
-
Hence "but there might be more than one type of bug at play."
-
3 days with no crash so far. This type of crash is usually (but not always) related to running out of some type of resources whether it be system RAM, VRAM, or swap file or whatever. Of course the best thing to do is to fix the leak. But you can alleviate it (not fix it) by reducing the amount of resources it'll be running out of. It may be that I optimized textures. It may be that I launch the game with batch executable that shuts off all unnecessary process (tons of Adobe crap). I can reproduce the crash reliably by enabling fullscreen but there might be more than one type of bug at play.

investigating F16 cannot do a Cold and Dark startup with Oculus Controller.
Taz1004 replied to BenPR1's topic in Bugs and Problems
The reason is, without hardware and only virtual, the motion cannot detect if you're putting the throttle at idle or 11%. Or back to off while you're flying. Reason why HB and ED only lets you do one or the other. -
Yes
-
I am VR content developer so I've worked with most of them for development and tried them all except Quest 2. And just to clarify, I'm not saying Vive Pro is best at every aspect. Just best overall.

Is ESC key how a real world pilot exit the plane? You can buy the actual throttle that have idle detent. Virtual controller is hardware limitation on your end.
