Heh you don't need to apologise for anything or even have to tell me anything :P Do I come across that demanding in my posts?

Yeah was thinking that, especially after I tried one at some kids house seemed better then I thought it would be. Only problem is I quit my job last month and am trying to be careful about spending and would rather fix the problem myself to save myself financially - and its kinda annoying for me to buy something new when the item its replacing is right in front of me and not actually broken (by that I mean to say it seems as though I could fix it myself).

I have had my X45 for awhile now maybe a year or two but now problems are starting to show. The friction locks on the throttle were lost almost within the first few weeks so have just ignored those and got used to just knowing where my idle and afterburner are placed along the slider, as well as general wear on some of the other buttons and sliders. The stick has always been quite fricticious (I know thats not a word but so what) as in when I pull back upon it, it will pause in at least two or maybe three locations before extra force overcomes this annoyance, which really doesn't help my technique and makes smooth, precise movement very difficult. My new problem is that the joystick deadzone has increased. I.e. it moves around within its idle position more then it should or did. It did drop on the floor the other day so am quite sure it was that but is there anything I can do? I have never opened it up before so am not sure what to expect - don't want to not be able to put it back together again - and guides anyone can link me to? had a search and wasn't sure how to word it, or what to search for specifically so couldn't find much - the search comes up blank when you type 'X45' anyway. I seem to remember around about the time I got my X45 back when everyone used the Ubi forums there was a lot of information about sorting out the stick upon purchase and I always meant to go through one of them. Thanks in advance

If this is simply a matter of money to pay for the software then thats not necessarily a problem - how much would it cost in total? $200? if twenty of us paid $10 each then its sorted and we have a tool to use for the future as well.

Don't want to be condescending towards you but you do realise you must open the canopy to be able to see inside the avionics bay? If you do this and its still not working then yes something else is wrong.

Is this forum for us English speaking members? I only ask because it is placed within the Russian directory

Gripen cockpit - "what does this button do?"
EscCtrl replied to peterj's topic in Military and Aviation
Does this plane not have a HUD or am I looking at completely the wrong bit? -
What is the purpose of this?
EscCtrl replied to warthogmadman987's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Does it not just send that air to some of the surrounding engine components so they do not have to bleed air from the turbine itself (which may effect performance)? An absolute guess -
Is the helicopter not yet active IRL? My knowledge on it is sparse - have lots of reading to do. EDIT nevermind it is in service Tucksonsonny was referring to the release of the game. :P

You mean contrast ;) Glad to add my input on the most difficult switch -
What beer did you get? might not be so jealous depending on your answer :P

When the gunner takes cover will there be an animation for it? or does he just snap from one position to the next?

Either I misunderstood you or vice versa but I wasn't trying to generalise, I was pointing out the fact that not everyone here does fall under the category of 'general public' and that some do have particular knowledge of what is realistic, e.g. military figures, engineers, etc. Sorry if it seemed I generalised you.
-
Heh some of you are so pessimistic! yes people will use it to cheat but then kick them - this community is small word spreads fast of cheaters. For the few disadvantages there are plenty of advantages - besides the 'general public' can be realistic - look at some of the models released! and whos to say a pilot will help a programmer develop a new AFM? could happen as there are people who I wouldn't class general public in this forum

I had that problem - If I recall correctly there is a separate updater file you need to download which I had forgot to use instead of the default - its in the main thread somewhere. Hope that helps

OT: The future of aircraft propulsion
EscCtrl replied to Poopskadoop's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Heh so I did some reading on the Pulse Detonation Engine and it got me thinking - with advances in engine material and engine control would it one day be possible to build an engine that starts off as a PDE i.e. encloses the fuel mixture by shutting off the front and detonating the force that ensues out the rear until the plane achieves a desired supersonic speed whereby the engine is reshaped (through hydraulic rams or the future equivalent (electromagnetic gearing as i mentioned earlier) to take on the shape of a scramjet (probably by opening the front valves and aligning them accordingly) so air is automatically compressed without the need for the detonation to be controlled (or for any real detonation, instead replace it with a constant fuel supply and combustion process? This would solve many problems - though would be incredibly complex P.S. if that makes sense to anyone and has not already been thought of its copyright of EscCtrl 2007 :P -
Would they bother with that kind of detail? do demo teams often show their aircraft as ground displays for people to walk up to? Haven't been to an airshow since I was tiny :(

The chroming might be there to protect against rust/corrosion or they might have always been like that but through wear and tear through general use the chrome tarnishes/melts away from the muzzle heat? Iguanaking should be able to answer that one As for the peace symbol I just find that ironic.

To be fair on her at least she didn't block the view too badly by wearing bulky clothing ;)

Hah shameless desktop promotion there :P Were you her lucky photographer or something?

ED listen to this: Idea to promote more people online.
EscCtrl replied to Pilotasso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
My preference when I do play online is generally to join on free flight servers to see how I rank up against others 9hardly ever play you see) and to get advice and help with training up my skill in basic flight - when I do play in a battle I appreciate realism a lot but I don't enjoy sorties that last several hours (I don't have the patience at this age to sit and watch a blank radar screen whilst constantly trimming the elevators only to be shot down without seeing who did it) Just my style of flight - but if ED or even this community manage to enlist a whole new set of players then there'd be servers for everyones preference. Even if hyperlobby updates too frequently adding a copy of it to the CD would be a start to getting people online - and who know smaybe with talks with hyperlobby they will allow for a basic LOMAC copy of hyperlobby where players who are too lazy/ignorant to update theres can still get an idea for online play (of course with constant reminders to update so they can play us as opposed to other lazy players :P) -
Yeah i use both that Catalyst Control Centre and ATiTool in conjunction with each other - I'm wondering if there is a conflict between the two - what I don't understand is why it used to work fine and I haven't changed anything to do with my graphics card or LOMAC

OT: The future of aircraft propulsion
EscCtrl replied to Poopskadoop's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
There are plenty of ideas out there but none of which will be seen soon - the newest stuff to be introduced to civilian aircraft would be fly by wire controls and electronically driven systems - whilst this doesn't sound like much it would increase reliability incredibly and decrease weight. Ideas like using magnetically driven gearing for frictionless and stronger control as well as the fact you cannot break the gears as there are no teeth or points of contact - it is one of the current breakthroughs in the A380 projects Keeping on topic in terms of future propulsion systems the ideas that I think will have a big impact will be Ion jets and the RAM jets including SCRAM jets of various forms (perhaps one day we will have nuclear powered SCRAM jets?) there is a lot of potential there and it seems the next logical step from jets - the only problem is the lack of slow speed power. -
Interesting to read - I always expected them to make those kind of upgrades as and when the technology came available as opposed to assigning a whole new aircraft designation and spending lots on the whole fleet.

Sorted mine out since the last messy one I posted out :D
