..or if they ever get Leap Motion sorted out
-
That works for me. Takes about 10 seconds for it to dissapear after moving the ball or clicking. The secret then is to remember to look towards the control you want before left clicking to activate the cross again
-
I also used to regularly get the mouse not working situation. I find the solution is to make sure all other windows are minimised and ensure you've clicked Alt+enter to go full screen. I still ocasionally get that issue so I have 2 buttons dedicated to voice attack macros - 1 for Alt+tab and 1 for Alt+enter
-
Maybe not for everyone but I have a cheap, wireless trackball, which I've hot-glued to the top right of my warthog joystick. It has a finger trigger which is left click and all the other thumb buttons are right click. It also has a thumbwheel for scrolling. Very easy to get to with a small movement of my right hand. Works really well for me. I have mouse sensitivity turned low (actually have a voise attack activated marco to adjust mouse sensitivity). I really only use the ball to get the cross hairs roughly over a control and then fine aim with head movement before clicking or scrolling the wheel to turn a dial.

VR immersion sometimes has consequences.. After posting in this thread yesterday, I flew a mission with my G2 and after completing it I had just touched down my Hornet, and was barrelling down the runway under control, when an AI Hornet which was waiting in a cross taxiway, suddenly decided to taxi across my runway, right in front of me. I almost came out of my seat, instinctively stamped hard on the brakes, and my right rudder pedal snapped ! So take care and remember "most driving accidents occur within a few miles of home"

Nope, I use standalone. Works brilliantly

If you have a high spec rig and follow Speed of Heat's guide carefully, I reckon you can easily be fully optimised with a G2 in less than a day. I did and my G2 is silky smooth. I'm aligned with SOH's test 26 settings including mods..and I use the universal shader mod on top of that for even sharper clarity. Plenty of us G2 owners to lend a hand if needed. Go on..do it !

My solution for a flexible and relatively cheap (VR) setup
ShaunX replied to sirrah's topic in Home Cockpits
Very nice multi functional cockpit! You could spend a fortune on gaming chairs and pre-built cockpits but there is something very satisfying in designing and building your own..at a fraction of the cost and custom fitted ! Seat looks super-comfy too. I went down the car seat/MDF route for mine earlier this year ( but managed to post the build in the VR section instead of this one) -
+1 here Given the choice, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would choose to fly 2D. I only got the Huey after I got my G2 so have ONLY flown it in VR. I'd compare learning to fly it in VR with learning to ride a bike or to ski IRL. All feel and balance. Fantastic fun. Really enjoying practicing landings in a hurry from speed at the moment, slamming the brakes on with the cyclic, cutting collective and catching it at transition. Can't believe I'd be able to judge that in 2D and won't be trying anytime soon.

You're very welcome, I'm glad you like it. Some interesting ideas there that may well be possible, though not I'm afraid, within the scope or capability of this particular app.

Hey folks, I read the above posts a few months back. My DCS rig was out of commission for a while so I decided to create an app to automate the above described process. I've just posted it in the Mods and apps section Just wanted to thank you both for the inspiration. I'm really happy with the app. If you try it, maybe try selecting the "Radio Nam" tuning clips, which I put together specifically for Huey drivers for a bit of added immersion. It will place clips from AFVN and other Vietnam war era broadcasts between your tracks. Thanks again.

Radio KAOS for DCS is a utility which makes it possible to generate and listen to your own audio playlists, in mission, without breaking immersion, by using the aircraft cockpit radios. It’s intended as an occasional “add-on” to any DCS mission. It achieves this by leveraging the DCS feature which allows a mission to contain a radio transmitter which can be triggered to broadcast an audio file on a chosen frequency. Some will recognise this as an old trick, this app just makes it an easy one. Features: Create DCS compatible “Radio Playlist” audio files (.ogg format) from selections of your digital audio tracks. Your tracks can be spliced sequentially or randomly into a single radio playlist audio file. Playlist files can have different types of tuning/static or themed clips inserted between tracks for added immersion (If you’re a Huey driver, try the “Radio Nam” AFVN clips) Create “_KAOS” mission copies of any existing DCS missions which will each contain: Your selected radio playlist A powerful 10 kW Radio Transmitter set to broadcast your radio playlist at a selected frequency Two Comms Menu F10 commands to allow your coalition to start and stop the broadcast in mission Once created, launch the “_KAOS” mission in DCS, tune your cockpit radio, and use the provided comms menu F10 commands to start and stop the broadcast while in mission Quickly update any _KAOS mission with a new playlist with a click so it can be different for each flight Version 1.1 Bug Fix Fix bug preventing generation of radio transmission commands in F10 menu items on some complex missions for Multiplayer. To upgrade from 1.0 version simply replace your "Radio KAOS for DCS" folder with the one in the download NOTE that Radio KAOS will NOT change your original DCS mission file. It will create a copy named <mission name>_KAOS , placed in the same folder as the original. Tracklist & Playlist Generation Tab: - Use to build up track lists from your audio files and generate Radio Playlist audio files from them Manage and Export Radio KAOS Playlists Tab -Use to Generate “_KAOS” versions of your DCS missions with an inserted Radio Transmitter to broadcast your Radio Playlist files. I’ve made a more detailed user guide here : Radio KAOS for DCS User Guide.pdf Please have a read before installing Please download the app from the DCS User files section : Radio KAOS of DCS A few Notes: This app is intended as an occasional “add-on” to any DCS mission. Although I've tested that _KAOS missions can be successfully re-edited in the ME, If you regularly make changes to your mission in the ME, I would recommend that you use the original mission as gold copy, make changes to that, and then use Radio KAOS to regenerate a _KAOS version as required (it will overwrite a _KAOS version of the same name). Be aware that the generated radio playlist audio file is physically inserted into a mission so that mission’s file size is increased by the size of that file. A 60 minute playlist is approximately 60 MB. The 10 kW radio transmitter is inserted in the centre of the mission’s map and should be powerful enough to be available everywhere. Please bear in mind however that like any radio transmitter, it requires line of sight so reception will vary with terrain (as it should do). You may also experience a short delay between tuning your radio and starting to hear the broadcast. Multiplayer: I don’t frequent multiplayer servers but from what I’ve read on forums, a running radio transmission is only available to players who joined the mission BEFORE the transmission was started. Therefore, wait until all players are online and then use the F10 command to start the transmission (You can also always stop and restart the transmission at any time). If you’re a mission builder and prefer to insert your own radio transmission trigger action via the ME, you can still use this app to create and update playlist files in your missions. Please see the user guide for details.

KB Quick – Quick and Easy Kneeboards – Create/Edit/Organise/Publish
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in DCS Modding
Hi Fakum, This app just creates kneeboard pages I'm afraid. I can't affect what DCS decides to load into your kneeboard in addition to what you place in your own kneeboard folders. If I remember rightly however, I think the only way to achive what you want is it to go into the DCS installation folder, then to mods\terrain\caucasus for example, and rename the kneeboard folder there to something like kneeboard_old, then create an empty kneeboard folder there instead. That is where DCS loads all of the airfield kneeboard images from. Do the same for other terrains. I actually think AlaskanGrizzly's Kneeboard Builder App does exactly that if you ask it to. Don't quote me though, I'm sure there are more knowledgeable folk on the forum who could confirm. -
We should really consider those poor 22 folk who don't have either..can't imagine it's too much fun on a teletype
-
Ok so I think I've worked out format and entries that need to be added to insert a trigger. Anyone know how the "currentKey" field in the mission file is calculated ? It's certainly increased following an addition but not obvious by how much. Maybe just a case of adding my generic trigger to various missions of different complexity in the ME and see if it always increments by the same amount I guess
-
No kidding! As I study a manual I have to write down the functions I'm going to need with description and the appropriate Hotas button. Then I assign the buttons in DCS and as I do I note them on a simple wartog hotas template which I use as a kneeboard page. It's the only way to cement them in my aging memory !

Ah right, took your advice and ran some diffs. I'd have that cold one now if it wasn't 07:00 So I guess it's a tad trickier than I'd hoped
-
Thanks, this is really useful and I will certainly take your advice and run some diffs before anything else. You're correct in that the app I'm planning is a standalone which, in order to function, needs to be able to insert a very simple, generic trigger task into any mission file (and potentially update it or remove it again as required by the user). That's the extent of its interaction with DCS components.
-
I have a requirement as part of a project to programatically insert a trigger into a mission (.miz file). I've no experience of this but it looks like I'd just need to unzip the file in code and then edit its "mission" file to insert the trigger ("trig") block and any other required code. So my plan would be to create a mission in ME and add the trigger in the usual way, then open the mission file and copy the code that the ME had inserted for the trigger which I could then use in my program. Can anyone with experience of doing this confirm please ? or am I missing something and there is another way do do this ? Thanks in advance

Press undesignate twice to initially unstow and align with velocity vector, another 2 presses puts it into snowplow mode. Use 2 presses of undesignate to cycle between VV and snowplow modes. It's all in Chuck's guide

EXPERIMENTAL: Resizable BAR in DCS for NVIDIA RTX 30 Series GPUs
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in Virtual Reality
Having started this thread I'm still not convinced I ever saw any performance benefit personally. Shame for those who did though, particularly coinciding with the Marianas release, though I guess they can always revert to previous version for now. -

ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in DCS Modding
Hey @horstweihrauch, sorry, no can do. I did think about it but AlaskanGrizzly's excellent Kneeboard Builder App already has that functionality covered. You can certainly use the Snip! function to capture individual PDF pages -
In-Game Scratchpad Mod Available - Works Great In VR!
ShaunX replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in Virtual Reality
Now the former is not a bad idea at all thanks, I can assign voice attack commands to copy and paste. No keyboard in my VR pit so the latter won't fly...even if I had the will to learn ;) Many thanks -
In-Game Scratchpad Mod Available - Works Great In VR!
ShaunX replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes it does indeed, but with it you can only type into the scratchpad. I was hoping it would let me type into text fields in DCS, like in the ME or to name track files -

ShaunX replied to Fubarbrickdust's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks but the only VR keyboards I'm aware of bring up a SteamVR or WMR desktop overlayed over my DCS VR and I have to use a controller to click keys which is a pain and I might as well take of the headset and walk over to my desk. Really surprised there isn't a simple popup VR keyboard app that works with a mouse..or if there is I'm yet to find it.
