I use CTRL-F11 to start logging after I click fly, then again immediately after the track ends. I then open the log in Excel, remove the all the " marks with a replace command, then I delete usually the first 2 or 3 rows, which tend to show GPU framerate = 0, then at the bottom, I remove all the rows which occured between the track ending and me pressing CTRL -F11 - It's pretty obvious which ones they are as the pattern changes totally. Then I use the "=Average" function on column D, then copy it to C and B I get extremely consistant results this way. I also leave my G2 hanging on it's stand before I even start WMR and do everything with desktop commands to ensure I get a consistant headset view throughout the tests. My sequence is: Switch on G2 - WMR auto-launches Launch FPSVR from start menu - SteamVR auto-launches Launch DCS from start menu Click ALT-Enter to go Fullscreen DCS Start the track file and click CTRL-F11 Track file ends - Click CTRL-F11

Handy utility, I might give it a try, thanks. I also see potential here for a real dog-fighting aid .. Picture the scene..you're locked in a rate fight with your buddy and you're losing it. He's just about got his nose around and he's preparing to fire. You press your new "emergency message" button on your Hotas and immediately, inside your buddy's HMD, a really gross dick-pic pops up. While he reels in shock you reverse your turn and escape

..I would have but I still had to drive home

Since reporting all ok earlier I've had 2 G2 bluscreens mid mission. Think I'll revert to stable. EDIT: Returned to stable and problem resolved
-
Well, after all appearing to be well after the update this morning my G2 just bluescreened about 20 minutes into 2 consecutive missions. That has literally never happened to me before so something is afoot here... Interestingly, after the 2nd one bluescreened, I terminated the mission on the 2D display to find that I had been awarded the Purple Heart ! (presumably for losing my eyesight during a mission )
-
..and there are at least 3 of us with G2's that I am aware of that have the WMR for SteamVR update today and don't have this problem. Does the problem resolve when you opt out of the beta version ?

EXPERIMENTAL: Resizable BAR in DCS for NVIDIA RTX 30 Series GPUs
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in Virtual Reality
Your signiture suggests you have an RTX2080 which won't support resizable bar. Perhaps the sig is just out of date ? -
I got similar results. I haven't updated to latest DCS beta yet so comparison to my last test 26 run should be accurate. Doesn't seem much difference between having the optimise renderering on or off.
-
After the update I got the same problem. Then I rebooted and retried and it's fine now. I'll run some performance tests later too.
-
Seems to vary for me. Usually restarts but ocasionally just closes.
-
I don't understand this comment. G2 users install WMR for SteamVR and then specifically use the SteamVR motion Smoothing, not the WMR motion Smoothing (which we disable). My G2 experience in DCS is perfectly smooth with head movement, with Steam SS enabled so locked at 90 or 45FPS.

My settings (which match @speed-of-heat's Test 26 on the first page) and test results are posted from page 11 on the below thread performance track.trk

It's highly configurable. At its simplest you set an angle at which you want it to snap back an additional x degrees, and also the angle at which you want it to snap back those x degrees. That's how I use it - I have the snap back of 25 degrees set to happen at 105 degrees, then the snap back set when I turn back through 85 degrees. You can however set up multiple snap and snap back points and angles to give you a more progressive experience. Must admit I haven't tried that. You can also choose not to set an automatic snap angle at all, and instead (,or also), assign the snap left and right functions to Hotas buttons. That actually really helps as I struggle to turn my old neck down to get the sweet spot over controls at the back of the side consoles.

Great review thanks mate. Looking forward to you getting one of these https://www.xtal.pro/product/xtal-8k-virtual-headset?source=thrillseaker

Sorry, Windows 10, version 2004. My DCS settings, SteamVR SS, and installed mods are as per S-O-H's test 26. I'm on SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR betas. I have Resizable bar turned on though not sure it makes any difference. I have basic PBO OC enabled on my 5900X. ..the only additional app I have running is Viacom for Voice Attack. It doesn't seem to have any impact at all running idle during the test.

Following some Windows updates yesterday I'm suddenly seeing the VR Mask for the first time ! So I was able to repeat the above (test 26 settings) and confirm that the VR Mask does improve framerates and FPS..
-
It's OVER ! I got a bunch of windows updates yesterday including a features update (I'm still on Windows 10, version 2004) and all of a sudden I'm getting the VR Mask in flight ! Interestingly, as I've been benchmarking since 2.7 I've been able to repeat that with the VR Mask and can confirm that it definately improves framerates and FPS So, a belated thank you to ED !

I've never unplugged the USB since I first installed. I did however, install a surge-protected power socket with on/off switch, close enough so that I can switch it on and off without moving my fat ass
-
Try uninstalling and reinstalling WMR After you've uninstalled and rebooted you'll find that the WMR icon is still in your start menu (I guess because it's part of the OS). Just launch it again and it'll take you through G2 setup again.

Definately 26, flat shadow removal, clear water, shadows reduced frame rate, reprojection disabled, NO sharper eye (msaa still x2)
-
Noticed that I got a SteamVR Beta update this morning so decided to rerun the last test again. Ran it twice. (MSAA is still x2) coincidence ?
-
Weird. You've commented out this line in default.settings to ensure WMR and steamVR don't both try to motion smooth ? ..even 2D doesn't sound right to me. I did some benchmark tests on 2.7 in 2D on a low altitude track in Syria and I was averaging around 180 FPS.
-
Damn! Realised I ran those tests with MSAA off. I thought those GPU numbers looked remarkebly low particularly as I haven't overclocked it, and I don't have the VR Mask. Repeated test 26 with MSAAx2 Big hits! particularly my FPS average.
-
Just for completeness, I repeated the benchmark for Test 26 today, then installed the sharper eye consolidation and ran with it disabled and then enabled with defaults and 1.8 sharpening. ..so it appears that just having it installed and disabled has a some impact, and obviously greater when enabled which confirms your findings Brightness=1.002000 CASContrast=1.000000 Contrast=1.008000 MaxDelta=0.070000 Saturation=1.100000 Sharpening=1.800000 SharpeningRadius=0.500000 SingleImage=0

KB Quick – Quick and Easy Kneeboards – Create/Edit/Organise/Publish
ShaunX replied to ShaunX's topic in DCS Modding
That's an interesting idea, so there'd be a mode that would allow you to take multiple snips and each one would immediately create a new kneeboard panel, perhaps using a sequential naming pattern. I had been thinking about possible upgrades, including being able to have folders in the kneeboard name column, each of which could hold multiple kneeboards you might want to group together, and only be expanded when you clicked them. So with your idea, the multiple snips could create sequential kneeboards that would all be placed into one of those folders to group them together and prevent the main list from becoming too cluttered. I'll give it some thought, though I'm mostly enjoying exploring 2.7 at the moment Thanks for your input.
