Come on, I've seen worse. It's $7.50 on sale. Where I live, it is the price of a burger with fries. Like... Who am I to complain? It is still an FC3 module, but the flight model isn't bad for that. It comes close to what we know about the MiG-29, it's probably the best implementation of the MiG-29 that ever came to desktop computers.
-
Germany flew the MiG 29 which we sold to Poland for a Euro each. It has been flying in the NATO. Earlier variants are most likely no problem at all.
-
I bought the MiG-29 from my Miles from several High Fidelity modules and I am slowly falling in love with it. Apart from having a clickable cockpit and complex avionics, she is well made with a good flight model, wing flexing and realistic and full fidelity weapons.

We don't even have the Harm Targeting System pod yet.

As for acceleration while this might get a bit less in future update, it will still have one of the best T/W ratios you can find, and it will always be fast. It has a rated limit of mach 1.4 with(!) drop tanks, easily goes above Mach 1.6 with a pure A-A loadout. If you got fuel of course, it's a bit thirsty if you go fast so you'll carry one or two drop tanks most of the time. But who am I to judge, if I run fast, I also get thirsty. I don't have the hornet, but I think the Viper is easier in terms of switches and stuff. I lost interest in the 18 over the progress of the 16, and after the 14 I must say that naval ops are probably something I'll never really like, although the F-14 is really awesome as a plane. I'll probably go for RIO when I have to start and land on the boat, so I can go fast, pickle AIM-54s, and laugh at my pilot and mumble something with "kinetic energy" on his bad wire traps. However, if you wanna go fast and blow stuff up while going fast: - Stuff you wanna blow up is on the ground, and only on the ground, may float or be on land: Viggen - Anywhere between sea level and angels 60, doesn't matter, as long as it is in the air, on land or at sea and not larger than the boat of some russian billionare: Viper Really, the only downside I really have with the viper is its slow progress in early access. But they promised that they will switch over people from the hornet to the viper once the hornet is out of early access which is hopefully soon. I am an F-16 fanboy, I guess. For everyone that didn't know yet, here we go.

I use AIM-120s in a turning fight if I get enough room for them, and I have never jettisoned AA weaponry.

I am one of the very few germans that do not live in sweden, but learn swedish. But... It is about a dozen words. However, it is never too late to learn swedish, it's a pretty nice country. However I think that if people want a striker, they probably go for the A-10. If people want AA, they will probably go for the 14, 15, 16, 18 or Jeff. Or FC3. If they want multirole, there is the 16, 18 or Jeff. However, if you want a fast decidated striker which excels in the anti ship role and low level strikes, is easy and fun to fly without 1000s of buttons, menus and stuff that is extremely well made, then the Viggen is your choice. Only complicated thing is that computer, but I got a sheet for it to remember that stuff. As other people said: It is rather unknown, and it fits people who love fast strikers, especially low level. And anti ship of course. There's a big dogfight community here (see the F-16 discussion thread, I sometimes think that almost all the people flying F-16 are only here for dogfighting), and a big part of the rest is here for multirole aircraft. Strikers are few. That is the reason why it is not so common imo. Even if almost every DCS swede I know seems to have one... So if you guys really think about the Viggen, but swedish blocks you from that... I am sure someone will come up with a translation. Just ask. It is as simple as enabling the cockpit help.

We have a bubble canopy, can go 9G on many A-A loadouts and Mach 1.4 with drop tanks (Mach 1.8 with many AA loadouts without tanks), we don't have submenus and submenus in other submenus, it is fast, easy and fun to fly, hard to spot and will be an awesome SEAD platform once it has the HTS / HAD. Only thing on the viper is that there is little to no development on it currently since everyone is working on the hornet and all we get is stuff that can be copy-pasted onto the viper. Owning the 14, 15, 16 and viggen, the hornet would be my slowest fixed-wing aircraft... Don't know about MiG-29 and Su-33 tho. Come join the viper gang, things are gonna be awesome once they finally finished that slow navy thing.

Boys, it is marked as correct-as-is. Note that this is a high aspect track at a very close target. All this happens in high aspect locks. This is the reason why I always uncage at lock. @BIGNEWY: It would be cool if you would post a little explanation as to why this is correct. As someone interested in the technical background of such things, I'd really like to know. If you don't, then you don't. Thanks in advance for that!

later in early access No FCR cursor BE info on mdf?
TobiasA replied to ECV56CHUMBO's topic in Wish List
I hope for a quicker fix, because the display is already there it just doesn't display the correct numbers. It would show that they are serious with the F-16. -
I fully agree with you, we early access buyer also are beta testers and it is good that someone points out the FM is off. However, they agreed on the issue, will work on it and half of the F-16 section is about the flight model issue. Well... Maybe because it is because it's only somewhat usable for A-A right now so people are mainly using it for that. I really hope for the next update. Mainly to be able to fly the Viggen and to have somewhat reliable multiplayer again, but maybe they'll bring some Viper fixes as well.
-
Probably then the "old habits die hard" thing on my side.
-
Of course it is pretty basic, but I also lost lock quite often in TWS, but almost never in STT. Especially when maneuvring, nothing, and chaffing it seems to be quite frequent to lose lock. I don't wanna talk about jammers in DCS, I'd like to have one but here we are...
-
I broke lock on incoming 120's with chaffs... I dunno
-
The main problem with TWS is the worse update rate, that is exactly what it is. If you chaff and maneuver, you have a good chance to break a lock, which is less likely to happen in STT. And this is modelled. So thanks for the explanation!

Well made, very easy to fly and handle, the only complicated thing is TAKT / CK37... That weapon computer takes some time. Other than that, it excels as a low level striker and in the anit-ship role. Easier to fly than the Viper, and this is something I wouldn't say about many planes. Requires trimming, but is stable and the only thing you need to take care of is a compressor stall- if it bangs, don't pull further. It has thrust reversers, so you never run out of runway. It even has autothrottle, which is amazing for an 80's plane. To land, you just point the FPM on the runway threshold, preselect thrust reverser and engage autothrottle. Flare a little to not spill your coffee, put her down gently, get the nose wheel down and throttle up for the thrust reverser. Wheelbrakes are cool but optional. If you expect some complicated avionics and multirole, then this is not your plane. If you look for a plane that is awesomely easy to fly, fast, and love low level strikes or anti-ship then this is it. It performs pretty well on altitude as well. Speaking swedish is no must, but there is no english cockpit. But it isn't complicated, only a few words. After all, english is a viking learning latin and we all have the same letters. If you are swede and do not own it, this is considered to be traitory. Says a german. The only reason this isn't #1 on my list is that I like the Viper since like 20 years now and also like some BVR stuff. The viggen rates second, because it's awesome to blow through the treetops. Haven't fully learned it yet tho, but can employ most weapons.

2.7 Viggen Patch 14-04-2021 Feedback Thread
TobiasA replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I can not join any viggen in any multiplayer server. As soon as I enter the cockpit, it justs CTD's. And I know I'm not the only one. So I can either go back to 2.5 or fly something else. Can't really say anything about the 2.7 Patch apart from the new RB75 mission because... Yeah, I simply don't know because I can't fly it. -
Yes, but every thread about that issue turns into a discussion about how the current flight model is wrong, someone (not you) provides calculations for that, then it goes on and on about what everyone knows and ED has already said that the FM is not final and that they are working on it. If we discuss that, it is not gonna change a thing and all we can do is waiting for an update from ED. Speaking of an update, I am considering going back to 2.5 to be able to fly Viggen again. Stability issues should be highest priority now.

CCRP: At which altitude do you consider yourself precise with dumb MK-84?
TobiasA replied to Frag's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
I use CCIP only if I have no pod available or can't lock my target before the attack. If it is possible to use CCRP, then I go for CCRP. Except high drag bombs. A general rule of thumb for unguided bombs is: The higher you are, the worse the accuracy. Winds have an effect, your own precision has an effect, winds change on altitude, you have gusts... Above 15000ft even CBU97 will miss. Go as high as you need to be to pull out safely without getting into the frag zone or going over G limits. Or loft them in with CCRP. Unguided bombs have a high chance for you to die by MANPADs or AAA if you don't do it by yourself by entering the frag zone. Or you go high altitude and do carpet bombing, but then it will be pure luck even on the fine weather on all those multiplayer servers out there. -
Thanks man. We have like... 4 threads about the WIP flight model.
-
So the receiving end does get a hardlock tone if I softlock someone in TWS? Guess I need to test it in multiplayer... TWS is indeed more likely to drop a track. The benefit of it is mainly maintaining SA since you can keep track of other guys as well while a STT just tracks one guy with all the power we have.
-
Exactly. I had very few cases actually entering a merge in such a scenario. Almost all of them when getting jumped due to bad SA. It usually does not happen, and if it does, the fight is over in seconds. Even then, airframe differences don't have such a big effect since usually the fight entry conditions are pretty much uneven. Outside of e-sports of course. It's a matter of sensors, situational awareness and the ability to deploy weapons that decides it. It one of the sides has HMCS and the other doesn't, that is usually what decides that fight and the side not having HMCS will always try to stay below Rmin of the heaters, thus chosing the one circle fight above the risky two circle.

TobiasA replied to ECV56CHUMBO's topic in Wish List
Bumping this up. Would be so nice to see this in a mini update. -
TWS has advantages in cycling through targets. I am like 50% TWS because it is less likely to trigger someone a warning in BMS, old habits die hard. I have no clue if it is the same in DCS. If I don't give anything about being noticed and have clear SA I just hardlock the bugger through RWS and TMS up twice. But if I don't wanna let him know, I use TWS.
-
Wenn HMCS comes into play, the fight goes to the one with the higher off-boresight and higher instantaneous turn rate. And Flanker, Fulcrum and also the hornet can pull more AOA and have a high off-boresight capability so it is likely to catch a heater through the circle especially if you go wide to retain energy. Fights against those enemies get usually tight.
