I would look at it holistically. - If you're in 1:1 duel with nobody else in sight then you can try as many tricks as possible and see which one works best. You can lower the flaps but don't lower the RPM's as it takes away precious time to get them back up. It's a fun exercise to train on with a buddy. However, in MP with 20-40 players the 1:1 duels are pretty rare. If you slow down you will immediately become a target for anyone above waiting for their chance to pounce. If you stay fast those above will have to think hard if it's worth engaging a fast target. This is what I love about DCS, you can actually dictate the conditions of the fight. With all other sims there's very little you can dictate due to simple FM's., it doesn't matter how fast/slow you're going, they can always get their sights on you.

for Flaps look for: - landing flaps = 1 binding - take-off flaps = 1 binding - raise flaps = 1 binding I never used 'flaps down', it maybe part of the game mode controls, make sure you're using 'A8 sim' controls, just search for the word flaps in the control assignment, it'll give you all of the options where the word is mentioned.

VIVID NORMANDY 2.0 by Barthek
peachmonkey replied to Barthek's topic in Texture/Map Mods for DCS World
it's like a totally different map.. We get to enjoy Normandy2 twice now! you're the real MVP, @Barthek!!! -
even though it's being paraded everywhere like everyone and their mother uses SRS in reality it's not so, not even close. SRS is daunting at the first sight, it has so many options that the first time users are lost in what's required, and how to even operate it. Watching some youtube videos to explain the operation of a tool is a poor approach to app design. If ED manages to create a VOIP client that is similar to discord/fps games with SIMPLE/ADVANCE setup it will cover both hardcore and noob radio users.

fixed Cockpit lights don't work in the MT version
peachmonkey replied to Hog_driver's topic in Bugs and Problems
are you on MT or ST? In MT the only light that works is the spot light on the right. None of the front panel lights work. -

don't fight AI in the horizontal, they will out turn you. With A8 always fight vertically. Always. It doesn't matter who the opponent is. -
Confused about rockets availability on P-47D 30
peachmonkey replied to PhotoFrank's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
yeah, out of all wwii birds P47 is by far the most complex as far as the number of required bindings needed for smooth operation. But on the other hand it's the most geekiest because of it, and I love it. -
I wonder if due to the problem with automated entitlement in STEAM the ED guys were authorizing each purchase and a license manually for the first 2-3 days. After which they just said it's not scalable (lol) and removed the option altogether.

Confused about rockets availability on P-47D 30
peachmonkey replied to PhotoFrank's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
I see you are new to the warbirds. Welcome. First, download P47 guide from https://chucksguides.com/aircraft/dcs/p-47d/ It's an easy to read and follow document with pictures and all controls explained. Check section 9 for weapons controls. For the rockets to work you need to: 1) use the bomb/tank/rocket safety switch and toggle it to UP position 2) Bomb/tank/rocket SELECTOR switch set to Rockets (down position) 3) Rocket firing Mode control: set to single or auto 4) only then you can press a weapon release button on your stick for it to work. DCS isn't IL2 or Warthunder , it's a simulator with all electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics systems fully developed/simulated, so you actually need to arm/trigger the weapons systems according to the real life pilot procedures. -
P-47-30/40 water injection control
peachmonkey replied to JesseJames38's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
for water injection to work you need to: - mixture set to auto-rich or full-rich. - throttle to max - turbo lever (left of throttle) to max* - water injection button pressed - rpm's to 2700 *Mind you that you need to control the max manifold pressure with the turbo lever and not exceed 64" on the manifold pressure gauge (there's a red mark near 64"). If you exceed it then the engine will fry within 1-2 minutes. Otherwise on water you can run 10-15 minutes. Also, you need to watch the carb temperature (top right gauge), and open the carb radiators flaps to ~60-70%. (oil rad flaps should stay ~40-50%) Btw, P47 shines at altitudes above 20,000 feet. If you think it can outrun bf109 or Dora at sea level: it won't. -
P-47-30/40 water injection control
peachmonkey replied to JesseJames38's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
you can go to Options -> Control assignments -> there should be 2 x p47 options: - "p47 sim mode" that has a ton of bindings for each clickable/twistable control in the cockpit - "p47 game mode" that uses simplified bindings. maybe that could help. -
that's weird. I got my upgrade for $9.9 using the DLC section of the store. I bought the upgrade, however N2 was running in low resolution. The next day I fixed it by uninstalling N1, then re-installing it, after that the high res started to work. If I look on the DLC page now, the options is still there (top one), however there's no price: null

the FFB getting messed up with the added curves in DCS affects ALL modules. Literally all of them. ED hasn't acknowledged a single request to fix it. So, I wouldn't wait for miracles, you'll have a head full of gray hair by the time it's addressed

see if you can nudge walmis on rhino discord to take a look at it as well. I pinged him about it last week, he mentioned that he'll try to test the mossie with rhino to fully grasp the problem, so far it's just me bugging him about it, if you add your voice maybe he'll do it sooner. He was trying to see if he can modify the received telemetry and re-inject it into the stream using his app telemFFB. null null

Yet another update to DCS 2.8 Open Beta, but what about the stable?
peachmonkey replied to ac5's topic in DCS Core Wish List
you and the community at large finally had the pleasure of meeting this character. The tunnel vision along with the disagreeing commentary in this thread (and in all prior ones, in VR for example) continuously warn not to engage in any further discussions due to the simple risk of going insane. -

that's a bit of strange assessment, but ok. Have you tried binding the pilot keys in the controls? It allows the view to move forward/aft/left/right. In VR it can clip outside of the cockpit completely, not sure if it's possible when played on the monitor though. Also, if you're on the map that allows external views you can press F4 and then use zoom in/out/camera rotate keys to adjust your view sitting on the wing, or directly above the cockpit. It's finicky but it definitely works. -
[NO LONGER PASSES IC] Improved Contact Dot Spotting (Updated v1.1)
peachmonkey replied to Why485's topic in DCS Modding
this is the issue with core DCS and has nothing to do with the mod itself. Without the mod I can see dots thru the clouds as it is. edit: i see them thru the clouds when they are Faaar away, i.e. a single pixel for AC that shows up 30nm away. Once the plane gets closer and crosses the magic broken LOD boundary it is no longer visible. -
ED's manual are pretty dry, it's better to use Chuck's guides for learning to operate the modules. Here's an excerpt from Chuck's Mosquito's guide on emergency gear operation: null

I noticed it too, however in my observations they aren't 100% see thru. You can go thru small branches on the top/sides, but if you go thru the center (i.e. the trunk itself) and closer to the ground you will explode.
