  1. I'm seeing 13% CPU usage on the SSA when DCS is up (i.e a full core) is it normal? it there a way to slow the SHEM poll? trigger every 1ms or 5ms rather then what I suspect is "As fast as you can"
  2. Shadows off.. all of the shadows.. water to LOW. you can try my settings. they worked pretty well for me on the 2600K https://pit.uriba.org/uriba/upgrading-from-2600k-to-8700k/
  3. Ohh.. one more stupid option for all this (I know, I've lived them all). is TIR still connected and active? you have the Rift, it's wrapped in IR LEDs, maybe your TIR software picks up those LEDs as the clip and feeds the wrong position... (DCS does not disable TIR inputs when in VR). if you are using TIR with reflectors, maybe the IR LEDs from the TIR somehow shine into the oculus camera...
  4. any mirors around? plus, they have a pretty lengthy thing about camera and USB bandwidth. https://www.oculus.com/blog/oculus-roomscale-balancing-bandwidth-on-usb/ the way VR HMDs work is that they have a external fix (tracking station/camera). then the HMD tracks your movement with IMU with constant positional updates from the external source. i.e IMU update every 1ms or so, and external update every 20-50 ms. if from some reason, the environment is too bright, or there is a massive reflection, the external tracking fails (if not detecting a completely different location). and the position fix is all wrong. causing it to be rejected (and you have drift over time) or locks on the wrong position (i.e on the reflection of the HMD in a mirror for example). then it jumps to some place else...
  5. I have a strong feeling that you would mostly see 4*aim7+4*aim9 or 6*aim7+2*aim9 while flying online. Aim54 is not something you would shoot at a flighter target. (That is expecting to get shot).and no one will let you shoot down all the tankers and AWACS for the "other team" in TvT.
  6. OC the CPU for free. You have an H-55 that should be ok. That's an instant boost. Upgrading to 1080ti is an option. As is throwing in a second SSD. But I would start from OC and see where it takes me. The 5820k is no sloth.
  7. DCS should by default use System memory. the "when to sent to swap" call is on the OS. However disabling swap on windows is a bad advice. I would recommend tweaking it if needed (say reduce total amount of pagefile available, or moving the pagefile to a drive not containing the OS or DCS). In Linux there is a system setting called "swappiness" it controls when the kernel will start using swap. by default it's set to 60% free RAM (i.e it starts using RAM before half your memory is used). on high performance applications that are very sensitive to memory you set swappiness to 1 or 0. which means that swap will be used only when RAM is 99% or 100% full. But you never ever disable swap completly.. Windows unfortunately has no "swappiness" setting as far as I'm aware.
  8. @Beasty Try making a similar test on your rig, before and after the upgrade. as both systems are DDR4 (and probably be using the same memory sticks, it will one less factor to take into account. I'm curious to see how a better IPC of the intel will look compared to the almost identical core count/clock speeds. BTW are you running it stock or OCed to 3.9? (the standard silicon lottery result)
  9. Should work out of the box, as it is supported by steamVR. (At least if I read the press releases correctly). Now it's just figuring out if the tracking system is functioning.
  10. drop the shadows, instant performance boost. And don't go over PD 1.5 you can also overclock your CPU and GPU if you havn't done so already, those numbers seem too low for me. I got higher framerate on 2600K w/1080. Also..Check this thread. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=194778
  11. 22?? I have FCC calibrated to less then 20 and it moves the console the stick is bolted to..
  12. That is not what he means. I have the same gripe. the neutral position of the view in the A10 is very close to the front panel. it feels that the flight stick is pressing against your "crutch". in the other planes I fly, the M2K, the P51, F86, Huey. the neutral position is correct, you feel like you are sitting in the seat. Not on the flight stick as in the A10. Personally, I just "stick my head in the HUD" and reset position. then when I sit back correctly, it looks fine. However, I think the decision on the central position was made so that the HUD will fill up the glass as folks transitioning from the 2D pit would expect. (not sure if the HUD is like that in the real aircraft, or it's something tweaked to make it more readable in 2D when the hog was originally released). So the question is actually, "Is it possible to change the default center position in the A10?". I think.
  13. I always warn my simmer friends when they come over that this is a world of bottomless expenses. And that they don't really want to come play with it... Already had one get back home and order a rift within a day.
  14. Thanks everyone! Glad I was able to help The i9s (any of them) would not have been my choice for gaming regardless of budgetary considerations. I've played on "high" with VR only once on the rig, just for the heck of it. and it was fairly the same as doing the same flight on my custom VR settings with the 2600k However, now that the writing is done, I can start play around a bit. I'm using pterry much the same settings, only had shadows up to Medium and Default. and I get a fixed 45fps with the hog over Vegas. or in a instant action. I will do a followup with more complex playbacks. I've already had a request to do something with the hog with TGP and MAV on and units and stuff..
  15. I've been flying DCS in VR for a few months and came to the conclusion I'm CPU bound, and Coffee lake CPUs gave me enough excuse to upgrade. I also wanted to try and document the performance and see if it was actually worth the money. Unfortunately for us none of the computer hardware media benchmarks flight sims :) It's somewhat long (and also covers another popular military flight sim). So I'm linking to my blog. https://pit.uriba.org/uriba/upgrading-from-2600k-to-8700k/ Uri
  16. do you start the mission with "Start mission"? (i.e instead of hitting "fly"/pause key, hit a PTT and say "start mission") I missed that one when reading the manual.. I was stuck with that error for ages until I figured that out.... Now I'm stuck with voice recognition that doesn't like my accent :|
  17. I'm in the process of moving my cockpit around the house. But I've using that as an excuse to upgrading my computer, I'm upgrading from i7-2600K to a 8700K. I'm going to do my best in benchmarking things as I go in a DCS oriented way (VR and 4K). it will probably take me a while to get everything set up, benchmarked, crunched, compiled and published. but it should help out. But just a foot note, I get over 130FPS on average on "High" preset with my 2600K on a 4K monitor (GTX1080).. I have no clue why anyone should upgrade a CPU for DCS on a 2D screen.. I'm only upgrading only in hopes to get better Performance in VR. (again, this will be answered after I finish doing all the stuffs)..
  18. I already have a buddy to do RIO rotations with. besides.. If paired with a very good dog-fighter, a RIO will make him better and it will make you better by learning. However, My biggest concern as a VR addict. is that having a non-flying capacity will cause motion sickness. (as real RIO/WSO are probably more prone to that as well)
  19. Much Appreciated!
  20. A-6 is my second all timie favorite :) (After the A-4). I would fly it for days! (well.. nights...)
  21. CL tank m2k vs 2 bags F-16.. yeah, that's a demo alright :)
  22. there was one. I can swear I saw it in the settings a few weeks/months ago. but it has vanished at some point. regardless. I havn't had a change to play for the last few weeks, and on my return, it seems that spotting air targets has become a little easier. I can actually spot things 4 miles away.
  23. it's nvidia proprietary stuff.. regardless of DX version, I don't thing it's worth using and limiting our ability to choose GFX card vendors.
  24. all they need is to implement a more aggressive "smart scaling" when in VR. there is already an algorithem in place that allows you to play with that. it just need another setting called "VR" above high.
  25. I think you are CPU bound there, right click the CPU graph in task manager, and select logical could display. I think you'll see one of the cores pegged at 100%. From my experience, turning off all the shadows helps a lot. Have a look here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=189873
