barrel on fire for lighting during night landings
Doughguy replied to petitnouveau's topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Old topic i know but me and my mate wanna do some nightflying in our antons. Ive tried the tigr apc solution and its ok-ish. I wonder how they did it back in the days when things were all black/white. Eventually would it be possible to have a german searchlight illuminate a "target" or fixed point? The tigrs dont illuminate much... -
Well one cannot deny the fact that people are barred from joining servers for which they need the asset pack... Same goes for me as im on stable version... once the branches split again theres very little to play for me mp wise. There was only one pure public ww2 server on stable which was op jupiter. Couldnt find it anymore before the merge. Had to dogfight jets.... So in that respect its the same thing. Most servers are on the beta version. So i understand this argument. But as you say, it wont hold people back with the flying, itll just limit their possibilities. However if people are smart theyd get a plane with a map that comes with a discount or a plane with the asset pack with a 50% discount. And theres sales often enough... we are arguing here about mere 20 quid when people dish out 400quid for a warthhog or what not....

To be frank. Yes it is frustrating and boring. But thats how war was. With splitseconds of sheer terror sprinkled in between. however most crew did not have the luxury of memorizing terrain. Crews getting lost was a normal occurrance. The main thing is mp games are most of the time played in the a classic mp style game as in capture the flag and no "missions", hence also on the 4ya server you have rather that style of gaming instead of actually doing ww2 styled tasks. Also most players seem to fly just quite low all the time. Ive had some rounds on the 4ya server and had an engagement at 24k ft just once for now. The rest is well under cloud cover.. so when i see this style of "gaming" and read "where did all the ww2 people go?" Id dare to say off to arcady games, where you have instant action and not fly around 15min from <profanity>ecreekville off an cold start just to be shotdown over st.crap-sur-jaques w/o having fired a single shot. Dcs is just not for everyone. You cant please everyone. Just as arcady games arent for everyone.. if you wanna please all youll end up with a pile of crap. Dcs is a neiche product. A hardcore sim. Not everyone is into it. But some are. And many on here said, they still play but sp as they cannot find good "missions" to fly but often just random engagements. Which is nice for a break eg doing cap or so... but not every time you fire up mp... most of us arent kids anymore but grown people that have lives beside dcs and maybe can spend an hour each day or a few on the weekend. So alone learning an a/c, is an inevidable time consuming process... let alone master it. I myself just spend the firsr few weeks just learning with the tf51 and im still a sh1t shot in the mustang. If you transpose this to mp games its equally time consuming.. especially if you have to fly 20+ mins from a to b to actually see anything.. e.g i flew the dora yesterday on 4ya. And i could only start from barville... whereas all the action happening was around lessay it seemed. So it took me bout 20 mins flying there 2 or 3 times. I can do casual flying on my own. I dont need no mp for that. And again thats where many people, as stated above, just give up on mp, as its too scattered uncoordinated and too timeconsuming. The general mp mechanics of what is anticipated from a ww2 sim( a sim!) Differs alot from what currently is going on on the few populated servers. Me and a mate make and fly or own missions as in with set tasks and mission planning etc. If we just want to duel we agree to meet above eg caen and each goes in as he wants. And i see alot of private servers o which im pretty sure the same thing is goibg on. Granted we both have the asset pack but its not something in general that will contribute to the actual experience /mechanics, cause as said... people expect a sim... they get served arcady game style... thats like youd go to thailand and .... well.. you know... But mp wise on an open server thered just so much you can do... you cant set up a "real mission" cause you need players to populate the game. People joining in at random times will fall behind and server will be restarted midway en route to target. People wont always wait 30 mins for a mission to start either if they only have an hour a day and chores to do. As said... cant please everyone. As a feedback for 4ya, it would be nice to have more options to pick a start from... if everyones airborn you might want to spawn in the air and not going through the whole procedure for 20plus mins. Or maybe a more dynamic way if technically possible, so you can start off from airfields that have been captured. Also a/c types seem to be limited to a certain airfield. Not so cool if you only have one plane and have to fly longer than your buddy in a different plane. As far as knowing where you start from, one of course can pic from the role list, but maybe add the parking lot number into the plane description/name so at least one doesnt have to guess where one is. Its bit more tedious work but helps the new player a bit. Tried taking off of a broad taxiway and ended up as a burning pile of rubble.

Indeed. Theres alot of ww2 servers albeit very few are populated with 5+ players at a time and most of the time its around weekends. One big part thats frustrating in ww2 mp , and i speak about my own experience, is that you as a newbie are totally overwhelmed by dcs. No aids except a a map. Most new players can barely fly their warbird right let alone navigate just by map and compas. That often results in long hours flying around cluelessly and then being shot down of a sudden. And yet people advocate to make modules etc cheaper i.o. to attract more players, which on turn will just lead to more players that simply cant handle a single plane right and get shot down aswell... which is frustrating aswell. The learning curve in dcs is steep and demanding. That alone is off putting for very many people. But to each his own. Most mp games ive attended werent bad but rather chaotic and left one clueless about ones starting point, what to do or where everyone is. If you fly alone, youre dead meat. Casually joining up with people and fly some sorties is tedious as again you often have to fly on your own 100km+ to reach the action or join up with team mates. It is boring and time consuming. Not everyone likes this even if they like the ww2 theme. One could argue its realistic to fly that long. Yes it is. But as a coordinated pack not on your own. Theres many many more factors that contribute to the not so densly populated servers. Payable assets might be just one of them but certainly not the only one as its being portrayed.

Check the shop. You can get every warbird with the channel map for 60 quid. That is a discount if youd buy each on its own instead. And from that purchase you get miles points which in turn gets you a discount for your next purchase. Also you have 50% off of your first purchase as a new client. Tbf dcs is a totally different beast as far as sims goes and not everyone will like it. You can try out each module for 2 weeks but itll take longer to actually "learn" any warbird as each has its kinks. Now if you want people to buy bundles which are more expensive than buying a single plane that comes at 50% of its price as a new client you might just make people feel even more frustrated havin burned more money on something they might not enjoy as much. Caucasus might not "feel" right... but to get some flying hours stacked up its good enough. And your imagination will do the rest as the landscape is vast and versatile enough.... So far ive purchased the pony at 50%discount for the entry. Bought asset pack which is like 20 dollars? Bought normandy when they had it on discount. With the stacked up miles ive bought the dora for 18 quid. If thats not "cheap" i dont know what it is... Also, if you want stuff free, expect a bitter taste after the sweetness has vanished... People have high demands on here... but expect to be asked for super low prices... well i wonder if youd work for a quid an hour and so 50+ hrs. People be furious... The ww2 stuff is fine in its current stage imho. Its a relatively new branch and hence not as competative as the modern stuff.. nothing that cant be changed over time. But it takes patience... something many people dont seem to have...

Players can't find the server when I try to host
Doughguy replied to tityus's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
Hi, i cant really tell with your router. I have a fritzbox and it could be found under connections, where it stated "Fritzbox uses a DSLite Tunnel". It might be the easiest to contact your ISP and ask them about this, or google for your router model and DS Lite Tunneling. -
Cheers ill try that. Yes it aint ideal but depending on the angle and direction you approach from this wont be much of a deal.

Players can't find the server when I try to host
Doughguy replied to tityus's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
Nope. Win 10. Asked the same question in the german part of the forum. My server showed up in my dcs profile but my mate didnt see it in the list and couldnt direct connect either. Ive tried ipv4 and ipv6 connections. No avail. Then my mate opend his ports and it worked at first try he has a different isp. The culprit was the DS Lite tech on my part... Dual Stacking Lite connection. Gotta check your router if its not using it. -
People tend to forget the sheer scope of dcs and each module that it brings with... i consider each module an actual "game"... anyone recall falcon 4.0? No?
-
Tried the stable version of the server last weekend. Was demanding for a rookie mustang pilot as was bit lost at first and got jumped ar high alt by 6 109s. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that the time the server was set as it was kinda dusk/dawn already. Not sure if "regular" combat occured at these hours (apart from the nightfighting that took place in limited numbers) as you virtually cant see anything. Especially during t/o landing w/o airfield illumination is quite... challanging. Not sure if i just happen to be in the wrong mission or time but thats the only negative i have to mention from a subjective pov. Rest was good so far and will try again.

Cant see that it should go for free. Will people who bought it then get their money back or a module for free then?

Dont want to start a seperate thread as i basically have a similar question. I want a german kübelwagen (or any other german truck) to illuminate a runway for a mission at dawn. However ive not really managed to do so or find an option for this. Anyone got a clue?
-
Right. Managed to do 20 starts and landings in a row until i ran out of fuel. i established some visual cues. maybe helps some folk here. not much different from what i described above or how grafspee lands the bird. i usually start flying parallel to the runway at 300 meters and 300 kph. rpm set to 2000 u/min or 0.8 ata and keep that. if you´re too fast e.g.350 (310 is fine enough),make some big californian slips as eric brunotte describes. usually 2-3 fora second or so will bleed enough speed to slow you down. keep the landinstrip visually in the center of your wing.the lines of the german cross can be lind up with the outer sides of the runway. depending on how you´ve lined up, you will have to pull the turn differently before landing. for general flight, i like to trim the dora with a bit tailheavy trim. 1mark usually does it. for landing you can use 1-2. now, flying parallel to the runway, watch when your horizontal stabelizer passes the beginning (thats where you want to go upon descend) of the runway. if youve passed it, drop gear and flaps. now pull and keep a look on the beginning of the runway. you have to judge if you have to pull hard or soft. be advised that pulling hard will bleed off airspeed! pull the turn in a level flight so you keep 300 meters height. once done with the turn, speed should be about 250kph. i actually do use the gyroscopic gunsight for landing. the vertical line i center on the runway and try to keep it steady. minimal aileron input. bit of rudder to correct course.be gentle! the horizontal line i keep centered on the end of the runway. it helps a bit if you set the distance of the reticule to very close so you just see a huge cross or sort of some makeshift ILS if you want. now, keep it steady. as you descend, speed lowers. 220 200 etc. keep an eye on the beginning of the runway. once the bottom frame of your front window alligns with the beginning of the runway, i drop to 0.7 ata /1500 u/min. start flaring gently! if done right, tires will hit the tarmac at 200 kph. correct with rudder if necessary. go to idle and watch speed. if you´re at 150kmph pull stick back to lock the wheel. again, correct with rudder if necessary. gently tap your break repeatedly until you come to a halt, or taxi speed. these are crutches if you want to, but helps alot getting establish some "feeling" for this bird, before you do more "agressive" landing maneuvers.

Hi there. Better late than never. Afaik all x52s suffer from this. I have this slight jitter when i use my rotaries and sliders to adjust wingspan etc in the pony. Its not much noticable but if used with zoom it sure is pita. Hence i use the switch on the back of my throttle for zooming. Works as good. Guess the potentiometers in these things are just cheap. Often you gave to make fine adjustments and the jitterung stoops. Too much hassle for simple zooming imhon

after the latest update, my ed tracker stopped working properly for the fw190d9 dora. it works like a charm for the mustang, tf51 and su25, w/o ever(!) having me to do anything inside dcs. in the dora, i cant shift left/right as well as pitch/yaw/roll do not behave in the same way as in other planes but rather very limited im motion of range. i cant really grasp what happened as it works just fine with the other planes. tried deleting the old input config from directory, and even replacing it with the p51´s. funnily enough, i even can disable the inputs of the edtracker in the controls menu and it still works, if i use the p51. no so with the dora. atm i´m running a dcs fix, but might end up reeinstalling the dora, even maybe dcs, which i wouldnt really like to do. works fine with opentrack and in the edtracker ui aswell anyone halp please.
-
After todays update the inputs for my dora are corrupted. funnily enough, the ones for the mustang do not seem to be affected vastly, only 2 axis/slider buttons dont work. i also cannot seem to load my old inputs profile into the dora input slots. also the ed tracker doesnt work anymore for the dora. fine for the mustang. its a real nuisance.. any help?

As said. Just because one type was "outdated" doesnt mean it didnt fly anymore. Antons flew in 45. And correct me if im wrong but so did the spitfire model we have atm in dcs. Ao did the pony and so did the k4. So that part is "correct", even if people dont like the fact, merely from a "balance" pov... which in rl no one cares. You want your machine to be better and stronger etc. Same discussion as i p51 vs dora... there were alot of dora pilots that brought down mustanga. It aint worthloss because its "unbalanced". So in that respect its mostly just a subjective thing. People whish for a lot of things. But it takes time. Especially for a small team. And from a business point of view you want to reach as many clients as possible and not a niche only. Thats how it is. And i was a dev for 10 years. Also many people just enjoy flying a warbird. They dont mind 6 lane highways. Even tho there are none on the normandy and channel map. I do understand your pov and the enthusiasm but you have to understand that by being very specific in your "historical accurate missions" youre narrowing down the spectrum of possibilities to basically having to create a mod on your own. Which you are free to do so. I did so myself 15 years ago. It aint hard. It just takes time. The dev team has to think economical. If everyone would get their whish itll take even longer as its now just to even get past basic modelling. Apart from that most maps are far from finished.. vast expanses of "nothing". So wait out. And if you cant, start modding. "You might say "I could make a similar mission any map"... and you'd be right. But having the right units and structures almost exactly where they should be with the sight lines they really had, and knowing the navigational landmarks correlate as closely to what the actual crews saw, that, is the icing on the cake that takes DCS away from the description of game or entertainment software and it becomes a true simulator." Like ive said. I know its an example but would narrow down the scope of things to do so that its a fully fledged "scenario mod". Whereas it sure would be nice to have for some, most might simply not care as you can test your skills in similar scenarios but with just different settings. And yeah a 25/26 would be nice. But then one hast to look carefully of its in historically coherent.
-
Stukas still flew in 45 as tank busters to my knowledge. Mostly escorted by doras. If wed go strictly in chronological order with maps/planes alot of modules wouldnt happen in the first place anyway. Also older models werent simply discarded because they were old. New tech vs old tech did happen. One can argue about current battlefields... but to be blunt, from 25k ft a field looks like a field. Doesnt matter if german french or russian. Germans didnt had their fields in fancy swastika patterns. So its indistinguishable anyway for the most time. To be frank id be happy with a generic simple vast strecht of terrain with generic fields from that respective era. Cause if ones so strict with "historical accuracy" each mission would have its outcome set anyway... so wheres the fun in that...
