  1. Funny enough i cant seem to set the radiator flaps to a certain state anyway unless they do it on their own in auto. Open opens them wide. Close closes them totally and auto well you guessed it. Cant cancel them out either. The switches arent spring loaded as ive read here or elsewhere iirc so its just 3 values you can switch around anyway.
  2. did it matter for zeh germans? nah, as they were engaged from any direction anyway. *badumtss*
  3. not really done anything fancy in terms of adjustments. vanilla axis/curves settings. set the slider as an axis control for the distance input. works like a charm. but as said. i think the gyro on the p51 is extremely power- and useful. i just have it set fixed on 1100 ft. i dont engage above that. below that i can do my own compensation. the only thing i change is the wingspan setting between the 109 and 190. it aint much but does a difference in my experience. if you have your controls synced at start up. you just could setup the range once to your liking and let the slider be. i find the slider more convenient than buttons. you could also use one of the turn knobs on the throttle of yours instead. i do have the minimal fixed sight ( + ) enabled and usually i dim the sightpicture. helps alot with aiming.
  4. ive set it to the slider of my x52s throttle. eventually you have to set your input to "throttle" or what its called. whats your flightstick anyway and hows it mapped? also i wouldnt change it continously. the gun convergence is set at 1100 feet. so i rather tend to get into that distance and try to stay there. gives maximum effect with a 1 to 2 sec burst.
  5. ooph... that discussion again.... id be happy if there were more simple dogfight servers on stable... i dont see the point in playin on beta. yes we are limited to a certain number of assets but heres the thing. from 10k or 10 feet above ground you cant tell apart normandy from some fields in germany or russia. so thats the more forgiving part in that respect. and the term "historically correct" is rather tacky as it would also imply a set outcome, or even certain events, which in a mp game, most likely will not repeat in "historically correct" manner. did the anton fly in 45? yes. there were enough around. did the 51d fly in 44 and 45? the dora? the spit x? k4? im no buff but at a certain point they all were. older models especially on the german side werent simply discarded but thrown into the meat grinder. the transistion to p51d happend similarly. a transistion. older models were flying until a new model was available. did they all meet? no. does it really matter? well to some it seems.. however.. the only thing imho thats neglegible is the actual map as stated to the reasons above. its a tradeoff i can live with and still have fun and dont see why my fun is supposed to be spoiled by external things. also, if you dont like the current maps, change it. start doing mods. ive been an active modder for over a decade mainly modding for operation flashpoint. thats what a community thrives from... an not I WANT I WANT I WANT. dont be so small minded... appreciate what you have. that untwists your knickers rather fast... just my 2 cents for the whole derailment here...
  6. i dunno.. i tried on the f16. jets arent my thing. too many buttons too many bleeps n blops. but in the end its what you get used to.
  7. it seems most servers are beta only. pitty.
  8. i use an DIY edtracker ive build it can only make rotations but the translations can be tricked, as most head trackers are "fake" 6DOF anyway.
  9. hm dont have the manual handy on my phone but i recall quite vividly that the convergence is 1100 ft. there were some real charts here regarding that matter. never had probs with that setting either. just checked the official dora manual and actually cant find any info regarding the convergence. only chucks guide mentiones 600m. yes it appears to be a lot. read same on forum and that its the regular convergence range german fighters were set up for. im open to suggestions tho... cause is sure spout vile crap like snoopy impersonating the red baron when trying to gun down the ponys with the longnose.
  10. thx i try the settings. only have a x52 so no extensions for me. on both the 51 and dora ive set the distance adjustment to the slider on the throttle like the twist grip on both real counterparts. however i tend to have a fixed distance for maximum effect / convergence. pony its 1100 ft and dora is 600 m (which both is about the same distance) but it feels much trickier to aim as the sightpane of the ez sight is rather small and disappears regularly in turns... the ez sight has that elevation correction that the k14 doesnt have. you guys make use of that? i mean doing all this on the fly is insane to say at least..
  11. ok. so my gut feeling wasnt wrong. i guess down low one can extend flaps to start pos and do barrelrolls or split s manouvers to shake the enemy of the six as sort of last resort but executing a split s with the dora and the quick departure is tedious! no such probs with the mustang. guess have to play around with that a bit and try input curves. any suggestions? aiming in the dora is tricky tho. the gyro sight kinda feels pretty useless especially as it travels quite alot when turning and you end up putting your s.w.a.g. on each burst. i dont know much about the doras history and conceptual goals but if it was designed as a strafe run type plane the employment of a gyro sight feels pretty redundant? i mean the the mustangs gyro is way better compared to the dora but also has its quirks and limits. the doras feels just out of place and generally rather "wobbly" . makes a hard time aiming right.
  12. so i made the transistion from the p51 to the dora and stacked few hours innit already. its a different beast and its giving me a headache. do you guys set curves on the stick aswell like on the mustang and/or add bit of flaps during turn? to me it feels like the dora is departing much faster than the p51 in any turns. even if i turn inverted into a dive and apply light stick pull (eg following a mustang) the dora starts shaking violently and departs very fast. same in a steep climb. granted i fly against ai mainly but but the comparison alone makes it feel weird. given the fact ones supposed to dive and get away from the opponent the moment you depart makes you a sitting duck. is it just me or someone else feels the same way?
  13. made me laugh. right on. thats what bricks and the anton have in common. they fall down on and smash your head in if you dont look up.
  14. are the servers up all the time? couldnt really find them few days back.
  15. i can only speak for the mustang a dora. latter ive been flying myself just for couple hours. some basic have been discussed, but the main sticky is: fight in your domain! the mustang is a high altitude escort fighter. thats where it excells above all other current warbirds. the mustang is extremely dependant on cool air flow. up where its chilling it performes best. fighter doctrine for the 51 dictated to abort any pursuit if going below 18k ft when on bomber escort duty. the mustang has a supercharger gap which gives it a hard time below 18k ft and above 8000ish. plus it takes quite a while to form up with the bombers again. up high dogfights get sluggish but the mustang will outrun and outturn any axis fighter. stay high stay fast. usually i circle alot in the mustang. high shallow jojos and observe especially when i notice that an 190 or 109 dives away. they lure you dow into their domain. thats where they jump you. so dont unless you have a favorable position. the dora and anton are hit and run fighters. at high altitudes they dont perform as good as the mustang. they cant out turn it. strafe your opponents from top and then dive away especially on the 190s. the general tactic with the 190s is to loiter high above watch for an unsuspecting target and drop down on it and unload your rounds on it then break away and climb. rinse and repeat. if your opponent notices you or the situation becomes unfavorable and turns abort the dive, climb and loiter again. the p51 cant climb and dive as good. most of historical accounts state similar ongoings and tactics. furballs bein the exception. if you find yourself in a furball its gettin chaotic and very dangerous. knowing evasive manouvers and the pros/cons of your a/c handlin are life! the mustang is fast up high and fast with wep down on the deck and can outrun the axis fighters in a straight line. but you gotta get there first.. out turn your opponent. pull gradually harder but dont yank on the stick. often the 109 oe 190 aborts and veers off. in most cases thats enough to bug out straight or have the bandit in front of you. down on the deck when it gets low and slow extend your flaps one step. prevents the mustang from departing. an old fashiones barrel roll with a twist rudder can help to fall behind the enemy. add flaps to brake faster. but dont just roll and reverse your turn. if you fly again the 190 or you have mr iceman on your 6 all he has to do is keep still for a second and shoot while you still turn or already reversed the turn. dont fly a straight horizontal zig zag rather fly shallow rolling scissors. that way you eliminate the possibility to fly through the fire of your oppo. another thing is to break visual. usual i go inverted and dive under the opponent keepin it in sight. the bandit will always have to pull on the stick to follow you hence the engine etc blocking its vision. as soon as you are below his line of sight break left or right (or start with a extendet left/right dive) and pull through on the turn. if all goes well youll be extending away from the opponent and he lost sight of you. this works best if distance is rather short. rolling scissors can work especially in high speeds with the 109 and up high as the 109 isnt as good up there and doesnt turn as good at high speeds as the mustang. down low... rather not. the doras edge is the dive and climb first and foremost. extend extend extend. it also rolls like hell compared to the p51 so rolling scissors can do wonders. breaking visual works even better dont try to out turn the p51. you cant. when on the deck apply flaps but staying fast is more preferable. up high its simply not your thing. stay in your lane and youll be good. it really boils down to fight on your terms. most fighting in dcs is done below 8k with the war birds and people complain the mustang is crap. its not. it simply doesnt fly in its domain. know your planes habbits and weaknesses. know where it excells (height and fighting style) check your target fixation. check your six. often. also i shied away from taking potshots at the target. wait for a good solution aim well and give it a massive 2 second burst instead of some peppering here and there. conserves ammo and doesnt wear out the guns as fast. firing in a tight turn isnt as good as in a shallow one. hold your horses. lurk. shoot. dont shoot from far away aswell. bullets are fast but no lasers. if you can see the tracers you can just give the stick a nudge forward and theyll fly over you. its something that must be trained. you sure can score a lucky hit but out of how many fired rounds? better burn more fuel whilest engaged in a pursuit to get a good angle than to pepper around and be caught pants down with no ammo after few mins in the fight. out of lack of ww2 servers ive been flying dogfights with m mustang against jets. they all made the same mistake.. an f14 or f18 and mig 29 cannot outturn a p51... their lowest speed is my max speed! they were always near departing and got their asses waxed by an 80 year old plane. they didnt fight on their terms they didnt capitalize on their strengths... they could climb and dive down on me all the time but they chose to fight me on my terms. thats target fixation and lack of situatuonal awareness. theres always a wild frenzy to make a kill. dont fall for that to fast. fly with caution and be aggressive when the situation dictates it! only the f5 pilot knew what he was doin and waxxed me good after a 10 min yank and turn dogfight.
  16. theyre quite alike. the d9 is the more modern fighter of the two hence bit faster. also has a gyroscopic gunsight that if you get accustomed to can give you quite an edge in a dogfight. the flight handling is similar to the mustang albeit not as squirrely. the mustang literally bucks around if you push it to hard. not so with the 190s. theyre not the best turners and up high where the mustang has the edge they should be used more in a hit and run manner. below 8k ft they whoop the mustangs ass. trim wise theyre about the same as the mustang. they roll/yaw. the mustang can be trimmed better in that respect. no refraction on the frontglass iirc. but visibility is poor in the 190s anyway. the models were adjusted tho to immitate the refraction some updates back iirc. model quality wise the dora is not as good as the anton. but not really bad to be frank. the current textured are decent tho the damage textures arent as good as newer models. there arent many texture versions of the dora sadly and no texture template either.
  17. gave the d9 a shot last night as i want to get a new warbird. i fly the mustang mainly. both planes performce very close but have some pro/cons, or simply vary as its the nature of the beast and their respective tasks. the p51 is a very simple to learn, handle and fly a/c, just as the dora. startup proceedures on the dora is just as easy as on the mustang. taxiing is more tricky in the dora as you can only use brakes and the view is worse than in the pony. general a/c handling is easier in the dora imho. the mustang requires some finesse when turning and literally will buck around if you try to make do things too hard (mustang is very fitting). the dora will be faster below 8k ft but cant really out turn the mustang. you go in fast and <profanity> off. its not a total waste in a dogfight and with enough bfm knowledge you can hold your own. survivability is definately on the doras side. it can take a punch. the mustangs weak spot is its radiator. take it out and the mustang is out of the fight very very soon. the doras armament is brutal, as one small brust of its cannons and mg will shread any opponent. the mustangs 6 50cal will do good damage too, but you need to aim well and and give a longer burst. the sights are a thing. the pony has the advantage here imho. the sight feels "better", whereas the doras functions the same way, it feels somewhat more "sluggish". the dora is the peasants brute lawnmower on xXx roidrage, while the mustang is the shiny sportscar. for pure flying only, they´re on par. personally ive always had a thing for german planes. for combat i side with the mustang. its more versatile in the specturm of things imho. in the end, it depends what suits your flying most. conclusion. get your wife buy one plane, and you buy the other and dont tell her.
  18. Someone didnt read the manual Unless you have to run, its not really much of a problem if you enter a dogfight. During cruise with mp/rpm in the greens i have them in auto.
  19. not found a server thats set for normandy. oh well.. gave few mig29´s, su27s and f14s a hard time on a dogfight server. that one F5 tho... mad!
  20. Kinda started mp lately. no real ww2 servers to be found. pitty
  21. So you guys lower rpm settings eg in combat (as in aerobatics)? still learning a bit so excuse the dumb question. gotta get used to the seperate handles in the pony.
  22. Thats because those footages were picked for exact that reason. If you look at more footages youll see that .50 cals didnt blow up things as much as its indicated by a bunch of videos. of course.. if you only look at videos that show planes blowing up and thats you´re only reference... "historical accuracy".
  23. "You get what you pay for" Good luck with that.
  24. it works. however. make sure you dont overwrite the new inputs lua with old carburator fix luas. it wont work then.
  25. Right i guess ive found the problem. The x52 throttle didnt move back all the way to where the two lines allign.... once ive reduced it with num- and the two lines alligned, throttle off worked. ffs... had to adjust curves for whatever reason here...
