Generally off if you don‘t have a force feedback stick. also make sure that the „game mode“ is off. On a side note… the A10 requires a LOT of buttons to be mapped to use. Can‘t imagine how that should work with the keyboard. It‘s a real HOTAS plane. If you find DCS pleasing you might think of some advanced hardware.

DCS has this setting to match the aircraft situation to the switch position upon loading the aircraft. Sry can‘t remember its correct name and where it is atm. If this is checked and the boat switch is forward foe example because you flew the A10 the last time and used the FLIR (happens a lot to me with liberation) and you didn‘t reset the switch to TV the cold and dark F16 will start in partial Dogfight mode behind the scenes. It doesn‘t tell you though, if you choose A/G the HUD and MFD‘s behave normally. But the sidewinder will shoot. It‘s happened a couple of times to me now and I developed the habit to toggle all my thumb switches once when I use the Viper so it can reset. I don‘t know if this is a bug or correct behaviour with the F16 but it does happen in our version.

Weren‘t they wirking at some point?? I think I used them correctly before.. or do I mistake it for something..

This afternoon I flew another mission in my liberation campaign, CAS which I usually take the hog or the Ka50 for but this time due to costs and availability I took the Apache. I started it up and did exactly these things: - loaded 16x Hellfire - set QNH just to find me using radio altitude. - boresight the IHADSS - set my right MFD or whatever they call it in the Apache to VID TADS and the left one to my weapons - started and took off. I told George to look there and gave him weapons free and flew around at 50is knots. He rippled out half the ordenance within a minute or so, I did absolutely nothing. the reds were decimised, so George decided to start shooting into the other direction. When the first Abrams fell I pointed that brother killer in the front back to the bad guys, he killed another 2 or 3 BTR‘s or BMP‘s then he did a last shot that killed a Zu23. All these tanks and AAA were hidden in or next to forest and trees or bushes, I or another human CPG would never have found them without getting way into enemy fire range and/or following tracers back. In a single player environment this helicopter is one of the most boring modules I purchased, no point in flying it in a combat mission at all. You don‘t use the gun against a Shilka and with the Hellfires in LOBL you are already basically in its range anyway so you can just spray around some bullets as well, just for the action. ATM and in single player it‘s a completely pointless module. It‘s certainly different with a human CPG without super powers but a brain with a naturally built in IFF. in comparison I did a Ka50 flight on one of my squadron‘s servers with a persistent campaign running. I planned my flight across the countryside in the ABRIS, typed in the final target coordinates and paced through the valleys to avoid the Migs above. On my way there I shot down two Hinds, one with a Vikhr and one with the gun, then sneeked in on an SA-2 site with Zu23 and SA15 protection, searched the Tor hidden behind the trees, once a clear line I fired a first Vikhr through the forest, then popped up quickly in autohover for the AAA, then used the gun for precision HE sniper shots at the Sa2 missiles and supporting trucks. Mission complete, fully myself and with a lot of fun… Let‘s give the Apache another 3 years and a competent human CPG..

Aaaahhh, it doesn‘t do that itself?! Thank you!!!

I know, old post what you actually do in the cockpit is to put the stick or yoke into the wind. This has several consequences. The wind coming from the side increases the lift on the in-wind wing as it has more surface the wind can flow over. So you DEcrease the lift by adding upwards aileron which is equal to a spoiler, it spoils the lift and the wing stays down. It also decreases the airfoil and hence drag. In the hornet which doesn‘t have ailerons it already adds spoilers. On the other wing the aileron goes down which is aerodynamically equal to add flaps (which is what the Hornet does): it increases the airfoil of the wing which, yes, adds lift but also a lot of drag. This drag is used to give directional control on the ground at higher (air)speeds. The more wind, the better control. For the Speedbrake: Aerodynamically and by definition a speedbrake adds drag by itself. For example the spreading surfaces of the F16 or the F104 or the Saber are speedbrakes, they put surface into the airstream. devices that extend vertically on top of wings are generally not speedbrakes but spoilers. They are less meant to reduce speed but primarily to spoil and destroy any lift. Airliners use them extensively at touchdown as they land far above stall speed and actually still fly when they touch the ground. To make them settle down and have effective wheel brakes spoilers are extended. So this brings me to the Hornet. I‘m not entirely sure (myself) how to define them. Military manuals and those written by fans of the hobby usually refer to them as speed brakes as they are used so. But with the Hornet it‘s not that easy. The Hornet has tiny wings far back and the whole body of the airplane (sry I don‘t remember the english word for it atm) creates a large amount of lift. So with this barn door extending on the top of the Hornet this is probably both, a spoiler and a speedbrake. Which gives it a big point in extending them after touchdown. As a carrier aircraft the Hornet has notoriously weak wheel brakes and adding the speed brakes or spoilers or what ever as well as pulling back on the stick has always helped me slowing down a lot on land based runways.

Ah, the teamkill chopper.. sure there is a reason: George spamming 16 Hellfires at everything he spots, even if you’d never found it as a human player and at the same time the helicopter being boring to use with George.. it‘s nice with a human CPG but like the Tomcat it misses the point after some hours if flying it alone. We had a couple of people flying it on our servers but they have all gone back to their regular aircraft quickly. I personally find the Ka50 much more interesting.

AIM-54 Hotfix PSA and Feedback Thread - Guided Discussion
Ephedrin replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's not helpful if you take partial sentences out of context and reverse them with pointless yet obvious statements to make others look stupid. This was a Tomcat versus a Mig23 in a 28 miles engagement. Go figure and leave the analysis to people who bother instead of praise blindly. -
Best way to quickly descend from high altitude
Ephedrin replied to Chad Vader's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I wouldn‘t use the AP channels at all if you don‘t want to take your hands off the stick or go very slow, low and search for targets. The Ka50 is extremely easy to fly manually thanks to the counter rotating rotors and VRS, as mentioned above, is no danger at all in forward flight faster than ETL. Vortex Ring State means that you descend into your own downwash but that can‘t happen if you‘re flying forward. Nose down always results in a higher speed, regardless of the aircraft. You need to stay below Vne, again regardless of the aircraft. There is a limit you can dive at, more is not possible, that‘s normal. If you reach the limit and it‘s not enough you reach the limitations of your aircraft and need to adjust the route. It‘s really as simple as that. -
Check you actually loaded the TGP. Then I‘m pretty sure your airplane needs to be fully aligned. Check you loaded the external loads (by default left MFD, right next to DSMS on load, then all on the right bottom side. It takes a few seconds. turn on the TGP below the Gun switch. right MFD (by default) go to TGP and wait until it‘s warmed up. Takes 2 min or so. Then top row press A/G.

The 6800XT is not a world wonder. It requires the rest of the hardware to fit and the system to be set up correctly. Heat must be removed properly, RAM must be fast, BIOS might be required to be adapted. And from a 1080 to a 6800XT you might (!) even have a power issue. and liberation probably requires a lot of CPU power.

Have you properly boresighted your IHADSS? I missed that first and wondered why George didn‘t lock what I was looking at.

I HAVE A DUDE TO USE VOR AND TACAN APPROACH WITH A 10 C
Ephedrin replied to mosqui's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
A little late to the topic but I‘d still like to point out that the advantage of using the „military version“ of a VOR is that a TACAN is portable. Not sure about the capabilities of DCS in the mission editor but actually you can put a TACAN whereever you want easily. Keep in mind, Tankers fly TACANs around all the time. They don‘t provide the ability for a precision approach but neither do VOR stations. A VOR/TACAN is just as precise or unprecise in legal terms as an RNAV or IAN approach as mentioned above but it can help you find the runway in the sim. -
When you have rudders without springs you don‘t trim the pedals, isn‘t that the point of having them? I had similar complaints in the beginning finding the Apache too twichy around the vertical axis, bein easily flyable with the cyclic but uncontrollable with the pedals. That was because I assumed to fly it like a hydraulic Huey! I don‘t have much real life experience in helicopters, 2 hours in an R22, purely mechanical and extremely sensitive. It flys like a Huey on Extasy but ab Apache is neither a Huey nor an R22, it is a flying hydroelectical computer. Anyway, what I found was that I suddenly had no issues with my nose anymore when I understood that the flight control system would manage the nose itself and the more I tried to fly it like a Huey with actual anti torque pedals the more it fought my input: oscillations. Slowly keep the ball in the center and don‘t do much more and the oscillations stay away. Maybe the vertical axis needs tuning, I don‘t know. But it‘s totally managable and I doubt it‘s a matter of the pedals in use.

What I found to work best against helicopters is use the 9m‘s seeker head, you‘ll get the circle around the helo and then use your gun. One squirt is already enough. A hind doesn‘t shoot back (yet) so you can take your time closing in. shooting the missile works well against Migs or Su27 etc from below but is wasted against a Hind, they spam their flares and have plenty.

I haven‘t followed the whole discussion but the last couple of posts. I haven‘t been able to drop GBU31 lately, no problems with the GBU38. I know very well how to fly and use the Hog but this bomb simply hasn‘t worked for a couple of beta updates now. ALN UNS all the time.

I agree. When I used CH Products controllers I used to play and calibrate with the manager, too, and had issues all the time, overriding game settings etc. When I was told to uninstall it and did that the problems were gone. It‘s a Win XP tool if I remember correctly. slightly off topic, but I honestly wonder how you can get good results with the Pro Throttle at all? It has such a bad resolution and short travel, the helicopters like the Apache must jump all around the place when hovering, speed control forward must be really difficult

Laser set to Latch on by default?
Ephedrin replied to directorguy7's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
The dots: you probably use combat mix munition for the gun. It‘s a mix of high explosive rounds and armour piercing, and once in a while there is a tracer or normal round I believe, it‘s been a while since I‘ve learned the A10 anyway, every dot is one of them. The steeper you dive as well as the closer you get the closer the dots are. Usually you aim with the middle one. If you use HEI it‘s one dot I believe. for the GBUs, if you want autolase as mentioned above you need to set a weapon profile. On the DSMS page go to the GBU12 profile and set autolase on, then set the lase time to 15ish seconds. It means that for the last 15 seconds before impact the laser will fire. latch means you have to turn the laser on and off with the pinky button/nose wheel steering button. I recon that you did it, it works well here. Could it be that you accidentally forgot the set your TGP to SPI? The lases where the TGP looks but CCRP drops the bomb where the SPI is. It could be that the bomb wasn‘t able to hit the target. -
If you only point the plane towards an enemy and fire the 120 it goes pitbull right away (uses its own radar). The Su will get a missile warning immediately and defend, at 20 or 30 miles the missile will be useless. You need a radar lock, TWS on long distance, then keep the lock while breaking to the side. RWS if a warning doesn‘t matter, depending on the situation. Read the manual about it, watch tutorials. The use as a spamraam won‘t make you happy.
-
Late reply, but maybe it helps. if an A-10 buddy is lasing, or an F16 or whatever, all you need them to do to get CCRP to work is to get the SPI. If you don‘t have a TGP let your buddy send the SPI via Datalink. All sensors to SPI and you get the CCRP reticle.

It's for example part of Ralfidude's zero to hero tutorials which are absolutely fantastic. The only thing is this tiny difference, since he used the early version of the A10CII for the videos. It can't be changed now. There are some other things like the screen swap that doesn't work anymore but hey... once figured out..
