Release of new Virtual Panel v.1.2.1!
Fish replied to Mnemonic's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Stuff looks really good. What is it used for? I can imagine they would be useful for remote training, to allow the instructor to view the trainees performance, if it can be used on the internet -
For all that play lockon in widescreen format
Fish replied to Nate Dogg's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That explains why my FPS remained almost the same, going from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 -
Suppose those images with the reflective glass buildings, and the 'motion blur' looked too good to be true....

Im sure u want to learn the programming yourself, but if you need a lomac profile to start with download below. I found it easier to learn the programming by looking at how someone else had done it. Cougar profile for lomac

Does this look familiar? Then just reverse it

Im sure the fuel dump is a toggle for good reason. Like forgetting its on, and inadvertantly emptying the tank. Why would you need to dump fuel in the sim anyhow?

Well thanks to all once again, Its a dVi connection im using. and since ive got it running nice in lomac, , and ive taken some pics. Ive upped the res from 1360x1024 to 1920x1200, and it shows no change of FPS in a test track i use with a lot of activity. I wonder does the vsynch 'even' out the frame rate somwhat?Stuttering of explosions is definitely much less noticable. Maybe it shows how the cpu and not the graphics board is the fps limiting factor. Probably food for another thread..... (if its not been floggged to death already....) http://homepage.eircom.net/~fish44/Pictures/010.jpg http://homepage.eircom.net/~fish44/Pictures/011.jpg http://homepage.eircom.net/~fish44/Pictures/012.jpg http://homepage.eircom.net/~fish44/Pictures/013.jpg

Sorted. Thanks to all. Vsynch solved it. Had to dig out an old Catalyst CC (control center) file, uninstalled the current one, and installed this. This allowed me to select Vsynch on. Diden't have to change drivers! Like this CC, cause it allows custom settings for OpenGL and DX. (im using cat 5.11. For me they still the best for overall performance!!).

MB is IC7, i865P intel chipset.

Thanks for the quick reply all. (nice to hear from you Mustang).. Yeah Pilotasso, its 'Tearing' not ghosting. 6ms response time. Mustang, Im looking at my catalyst control panel but cant see any vsynch option. Can you help? Im using the new control panel, and it lumps DX and OpenGl together..

Recently changed over from a CRT to a TFT, and while overall the viewing pleasure is significantly improved, there is one downside which i see.In large changes in the image, ie quick movements, the image seems to 'tear' like as if its not updated quickly enough, and a 'line' ripples fleeting across or up the image. I imagine it has something to do with the refresh rate or response time, but i would like to understand what is happening. The monitor boasts a 6ms response time, (grey to grey). and at my current resolution, it refreshing at 60mhz. BTW, the above problem is not confined to Lomac. Im sure there's a thread somewhere that explains this. A pointer would even help. Thanks

Multiple hard drive aproach for gaining FPS
Fish replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the heads up guys. I have 2 WD 300g SATA1 drives, One has 3 partitions, OS on P1, and FC on P2. Also have 2gig ram. So Im not going to reinstall FC, unless im pretty sure its gonna make a difference to me. -
Multiple hard drive aproach for gaining FPS
Fish replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For those of us who dont know what the paging file is, or how to allocate it at the begining of a disk, or to separate the Lomac activity between the two drives, You might Like to help us out. Thanks, -
Multiple hard drive aproach for gaining FPS
Fish replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So go on, Tells us how to do it.....? -
When you play a trak, in edit mode, and you change the views, from those used during the recording, but once you do, FC works as if you were controlling the views as you would from inside the live action from that point on. If you choose the cockpit view, and the TIR is active, and youve got your reflector working etc, then what you see will depend on how you are moving your head during the playback.

Its true, and im guilty also. Have played, All original Rainbow six, Starwars Dark forces, Jedi kight,, Elite Forces, 1 & 2, (satisfied a long held desire to fight the borg) DS9, The Fallen Dooms, from original, to 3 Alien v Preditor, All ghost recon, and addons, OPF GOTY (with addons) HL2, F.E.A.R, and now got GRAW. Think that about it. Of these best imo, OPF (by a long way) for multiplay, strategy, war simulation AvP, (lights out, headphones on) for Shear terror. Fallen, excellent graphics, clever puzzles, F.E.A.R, best AI for this type of FPS. But problem with most, is they are 'addicitive', excapism. Like cinema. Most now its just fancy graphics, and they lack any game play, including GRAW. Games to look forward to for me, in order 1.Armed Assault (possible vaporware) 2.FF4 3.BS 4.Battle of Britian (oleg) 4.Fighter OPS (possible vaporware)

OT : Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter ? your thoughts
Fish replied to emenance's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Im very disappointed, but not 'shocked'. Once they anounced that they would release GR2 as a console only game, for me it was the end for GR as we new it. GRAW is also a console game. The console market for this game is different on many levels to that which supported GR. For me, disappointed, but no surprise. PS is this still the LockOn forum? -
On the first point, what i meant was Vista will come with DX10 native, we wont be installing DX9 or any other 'DX..' over it. But DX...n based games will run on it. Like at present it will be backward compatible to a degree. Yeah thats my point, to code a game to run on different render paths, will either compromise the appearance in DX10, or be costly. Thus one of the dilemas. .... Thanks,
-
A little off topic, but. Heres my take on it. -DX9 will not run on Vista -DX10 will not run on XP, -Games which are built around earlier DX technology will run on DX10 (maybe not so much earlier though). -Games which are built around DX10 technology will not run on XP. Anything else is illogical. The last point is likely to cause a dilema for game developers. http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=392627

Just upgraded from 1.5gig, to 2gig, dual channel, there a noticable change for me in preformance in lockon, much stutter is gone, and load times down. Should have done this a long time ago..

Just read a review of this card, and how it is being used in FPS games, eg GRAW. It appears to help with making the 3d environment more realistic by handling things like particle dynamics, and object interactions. This is very pertinent in discruction, and explosions, where there are many objects and 'sub' objects interacting with the environment, and in collision with it. Im wondering then, apart from explosions, if you would be useful for flight sims, or if its use in explosions would justify it being implemented. ?

How much u got to spend? If uve enuff, then get both.
