  1. Tomcat in SP wasn't for me either. But the Apache is not the same as the Tomcat when it comes to the 2-seater/pit thing in solo. The Apache pilot and CPG share quite a lot of hocas commands. You can fly and fight in either seat unlike in the Tomcat. George may not be perfect or smart but he can keep his targeting bracket on a moving target such as a helo better than a human can (even before IAT came about). And he can pick out targets you can't see (labels off). He is useful if you know how to use him IMO. When I switch seats, it's not so much because I need to but because I want to (for example, as pilot I get into the CPG pit because I want to have a go at the TEDAC). So I can enjoy both. Also, like all attack helos, the Apache only has a few weapons (and no radar at this point). So there isn't a lot of commands to grapple with in the AI menu as compared to a 2-seat fighter jet.
  2. Woah that is disappointing if it is indeed the case.
  3. I could be wrong but I doubt they are meant to work but merely serve as eye candy. Will probably take up fps to simulate water removal.
  4. Players have diff setups and binding preferences. Point is, it was there before, it was good for those who found it useful, why take it away. Yes, the new switch options (eg. button off state) are great. But is it so much to ask to put back a simple thing like the cycle option (just those that were there before)?
  5. It's a "standard winter camo" skin from here. More skins here although not many as BS3 is a 'new-old' and BS2 skins aren't compatible.
  6. No, the Apache does not come with turn-on-target. Yeah, BS indeed has some very useful AP systems that exceed what's available in the Apache. Auto Hover being another great one.
  7. Thanks. Needed to find out as I am updating my hotas bindings and running out of buttons
  8. CPG's LHG Store/Update Switch - I can use the Store (fwd) function to store targets but the Update (aft) function does not seem to do anything? Is the Update function a WIP? Thks
  9. DCS 2.8 latest OB as of 28 Dec 2022. Manual says the CPG's RHG IAT Polarity Switch (W-A-B) selects the polarity for the image auto tracker. • W (White, Fwd) - Bright objects are tracked by the IAT. • A (Auto, Mid) - IAT automatically chooses tracker polarity. • B (Black, Aft) - Dark objects are tracked by the IAT. I can mouse cursor click on the switch in the CPG pit to move the switch in any of its 3 positions (it's animated) but it did not seem to make a difference when I tracked some moving tanks that appeared white/hot. Also, the controls key binding doesn't work as in the switch does not move at all. Is this WIP?
  10. Yeah I was testing out the new IAT. So I noticed IAT Fwd long does nothing (doesn't change gate size). Is this on the to-do list or not planned?
  11. It’s more like strong beam (switch left) and weak beam (switch right) to me. Both do rangefinding once laser power is on.
  12. Why does ED do things halfway?
  13. Thanks guys for the explanation. My confusion arose from using the English pit which has incorrect labels for the switch. Not sure why ED has kept the English labels this way. I guess Designate mode includes ranging as well for the Kh-25/Vikhr to work. Both the Vikhr and Kh-25 require the laser beam. The Vikhr rides it while the Kh-25 follows the reflection (like a LGB). Is the laser beam stronger in Designate mode for the Kh-25 seeing it requires a countdown cooling period?
  14. Updated: Just to sum up the answers from the various contributors (thanks!). - Whether you own BS2 or not, you have the option to pick the BS3 2011 version in the ME "..." tab which is like a 'polished' BS2 with the LWS and no ODS. - Keep your old BS2 if you want to fly old missions and campaigns developed over the years for BS2 unless you want to convert them. - According to this, BS3 should work fine on its own if you uninstall your BS2.
  15. Hi, can someone help me understand the two? Ok the Power switch needs to be ON for the laser to function, for the Vikhrs, Kh-25 and Designator switch. I get that. The Designator switch in STDBY or MANUAL does not affect the Vikhrs in any way because the Vikhrs look back to ride the 'weaker' laser beam? But for the Kh-25, it has to see the 'stronger' reflected laser so the Designator switch must be on STDBY (wrong label? it should say "designate" or "lase" actually). So MANUAL actually means 'strong lasing off' ? But where is the RANGEFINDER part? Because you can still get the range whether it is in STDBY or MANUAL. Thanks
  16. Yeah I guess they might share stuff. I also noticed the Laser warning reset binding is also in the BS3 controls section even though it’s been replaced by the ODS.
  17. I was under the impression my BS2 would be 'converted' to BS3 upon purchase of BS3. Now that I have "Ka-50 III" added and still have "Ka-50 Sim", is there any point in keeping the latter and would it be safe to uninstall BS2? I suppose some are keeping BS2 for campaigns that still use it.
  18. BS3 - Why couldn't they bring back the cycle/toggle functions for 3-way switches (eg. weapon burst length, AP Baro/Alt)? It was all good in BS2/DCS 2.7. Now we need additional buttons or remapping. Such a simple task that would have closed threads like this.
  19. Perfect, thanks so much!
  20. Flew all that I bought but some I do not return to, like the F14 and Hind - not really into diff workload pits as I do SP only. I also prefer pits that look 'good' and that do not have a front view that is largely obstructed by canopy rails.
  21. Hey thanks. I put it in saved games/liveries... but the guns are purple? (as in your pic also)
  22. Old thread but I was looking for answers to the same questions. What I found is that for non purchase modules like the B-17G and Ju-88A4, you 'lose' the original stock skin once you place a new livery in either the Mods\tech\WWII Units\Liveries folder or the Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Liveries folder. You can get the stock skin only by choosing a different country with that plane. I think the stock Ju-88A4 livery (green Leopard prints) is in Mods\tech\WWII Units\Textures but is zipped. I tried unzipping it and making it like a livery folder in Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Liveries but it wouldn't show up in the ME because it doesn't have the standard livery structure (eg. no description.lua file). The B-17G skin pack by KIZIR_77 includes the stock skin (D-Day Doll) that's why you still see the stock skin after installing the pack in Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Liveries. It would otherwise have become unavailable also. Anyone have a working default Ju-88A4 livery in a folder?
