Apart from lower temperatures, it's also better to choose anti-cyclone (higher pressure) over cyclone (lower pressure) in the dynamic weather options if you want more lift, am I right? Thks

w.i.p Flight Model (FM) since [21.09.2022] DCS 2.7.18.30348 Open Beta
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to Dagobert666's topic in DCS: AH-64D
I find activating both ALT and ATT hold modes just before stable hover helps me get into a stable hover. I also trim to position the stick X and pedal X (controls indicator) in the 'hover pattern' (stick X a little down and left of center, pedal X a bit left from center). I just end up facing the wrong direction. -
25 curve - that's quite a spike in input at the outer ranges (after the flat part of the curve) of the stick motion. Reducing Sat Y should mean not having to resort to too much curve. It's a bit of a balance between the two, although Sat Y reduction means you lose a corresponding amount of sim stick range. Ppl lower Sat Y to achieve a more gradual input when they feel they don't need the full sim range of the stick (or collective). But hey whatever works for you Force trim. Yes, you are right as I understand it. This video explains the helo sim hardware dilemma. You could use trim or trim reset when your stick is back at center if you do trim. You can have a look at this too. I thought it was a really good video to understand trim in a real Mi-24. If you do trim - Instant trim would compound your input if you held the stick in position. Central position trimmer means having to center your stick each time after trimming which kind of defeats the purpose of having your type of stick setup where you want to hold it in position. Actually, without a stick that can stay in position when the hand is off, you are essentially in the same situation trim-wise as regular hotas users, unless you intend to hold the stick in position throughout and not trim. Did I get it right?

I may have the wrong technique but I recall as there is no ‘magic’ hover hold, we combine ATT and ALT hold to try and help bring the Apache to a stable hover. But I often end up with the Apache facing in the wrong direction and tap-tap trim the pedals/yaw to try and overcome the SAS bit by bit without the sudden lurch. Would it be better to just turn off ATT when adjusting hover yaw? I could simply test it but am not at PC now. Thanks -
Oh I borrowed the term from this tutorial. Tap is basically pressing and releasing the force trim release. I find I need lots of micro trimming with the Apache. And with instant trim on (which I find gives me a quicker response), it's lots of tap-recenter-tap to get the X where I want it in the controls indicator. Not sure I could fly without the controls indicator without losing track of the stick's true position. With this method, I seldom do a trim reset which can have a drastic effect. So with the helo modules, I watch where my controls are in the controls indicator since my physical hotas can't give a true representation.

Test diff settings to see what works for your setup. A stick extension is already an advantage over a regular short stick. But you could try cutting some Y saturation for further fine stick control. I think at the end of the day there is only so much one can do since it is WIP. In my case (standard warthog) I set them as => Cyclic: curve 15, dead 0, satY 90(pitch)/80(roll) | Collective: curve 15, dead 0. I also use the "tap-tap" trim method with instant trim for cyclic and pedals (regular VKB T).

Yeah tried it too. So it seems the only way to turn down the TADS image in the CPG IHADSS and not in the TEDAC is via the NVS (NORM or FIXED) mode using just the TEDAC BRT rocker. (Using the CON rocker only will leave some of the TADS image still visible when NVS is OFF.)

That's DCS. I don't think DCS will be ever be a complete sim in the near future with its current business model. Change your paradigm - it's a sim where you learn about, test and fly a buffet of EAs, report bugs and watch their development, eagerly awaiting updates and promised features. Then fly some missions occasionally, and enjoy the scenery. Learn from other YouTubers if the official channels do not bother to update outdated tutorials. There is no quality control there.

KA50 trim with a non-centring cyclic
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to edmuss's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Have a look at this, though it is for the Mi-24P. -
+1 We get that the FM and SAS are being worked on. But I'm curious if they are being fixed behind the scenes and then released in the recent updates because I don't see FM/SAS mentioned in the changelog (perhaps I missed it). I'd understand too if they do not want to mention it if the changes are still fluid or experimental, unless there is something major worth mentioning.
-
I have the same question. Schoolio did not mention the FM in his vids. In fact, I don't recall any real Apache pilots (such as Casmo) saying the FM is 'off'. Their silence seems to suggest they are fine with it. Do point me to a source if you have where a real Apache pilot reviews the FM. I'm interested to know what they think of the FM. In my opinion, as a simmer only with a standard on-the-table warthog hotas, I think the FM was flabbergasting at times when attempting a transition to hover. But the latest update seems to have improved it for me. The SAS sounds are still there but they happen less when you aren't all over the place trying to hover.

Ex Apache pilot talks about the problematic SAS... "It's not a normal thing to constantly hear the tone and get the SAS saturated message. In fact, in my 6 years of flying the aircraft I don't remember getting the SAS saturated tone more than a handful of times. Hopefully we see ED make a fix to this soon."

DCS: F-16C Viper Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)

I did not notice the SCAS sounds to be worse than before. My point is I am now able to transition to hover in OGE/IGE with ATT/ALT hold without rolling and rocking back and forth like before which had been one of my complaints. I find it surprisingly 'stable' now in that regard. Definitely an improvement IMO. Hence, maybe the SCAS sounds didn't persist and bother me that much because I got the helo to behave in a hover. Before, the helo would be all over the place and consequently the SCAS beeping would be more, which added to the frustration.

Just tried the Apache again after several weeks (latest OB, 3 Sep). Did some abrupt transitions to OGE/IGE hover with ATT and ALT hold modes, and no more wild 'rodeo' rides. Pretty stable actually. Was the FM/SCAS fixed? Definitely feels different and better.

Here is the track for the OP. The track was made today (3 Sep) after latest OB update (2.7.17.29493). The issue is still there. F16 ECM XMIT 1-2-1 ECM STBY NO RDR BUG.trk

Question - sight and acquisition - what is ?00 and seeker?
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to hreich's topic in DCS: AH-64D
There was a lot of discussion on the ACQ source and TADS when the module first came out as it can get confusing in the beginning. You can try a word search on the forums. There is some good info there. -
Question - what is key combo to take controls from CPG position?
GrEaSeLiTeNiN replied to hreich's topic in DCS: AH-64D
Yep "C" to toggle it but watch for the stick to come up to confirm that you have control. -
As mentioned, what you are experiencing is common at this stage and the FM/SCAS is WIP. That said, some manage better if they have a helo friendly setup - stick extension/floor mounted (finer stick displacement resolution), rudder pedals with a damper, no springs (helps with trim reset issues). But most have a regular setup and axes tuning with curves of about 20 (pitch) 30 (roll) 15 (collective) and saturation Y values of about 90 (pitch) and 80 (roll) can help. This is just an example and is what I use for a regular Warthog hotas (on table). But you'll have to experiment to see what works best for your setup. Also, just to check, make sure your power levers (sliders next to the collective) are not past "FLY" when flying. There is a "detent in lockout position" setting in the Special options which allows it to go past FLY without depressing the fingerlifts to release. I avoid checking that option but use "depress fingerlifts to release" instead. "Rotor RPM low" (from my general understanding) means your collective pitch angle is too much and causing drag, and that is causing the RPM (which needs to remain at a certain constant) to drop. So you need to lower/reduce collective to bring up the RPM. To make things easier for the Apache, I set the mission environment to have low temperatures (like 5-10 deg C with little to no wind) and choose places with low MSL (near the sea for example). This makes the air denser and aids lift. I don't do this for the K-50 but I find I need to do it for the Apache esp if carrying a full load. You may struggle with transitioning to OGE hover at times and find your helo all over the place and the SCAS doing strange things to fight you. That's quite common at the moment. Just take it slow and wait for the updates. Have fun!

Yep TMS right on AG FCR SOI for TGT/OA1/OA2 or press AG FCR OSB 10 (Sighting Option Selector, Chuck's Guide pg 221) "TGT".

ED, do I really need to submit a track replay for this case? If you follow the steps outlined, you can see it for yourself. It's repeatable. Skywalker22 and Furiz had reported the same thing in another thread linked above.
