Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
The_Pharoah replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
we also have to realise this is a game/sim thats developed in Russia (I understand). I doubt the USAF or McDonnell/Douglas would happily hand over current specs to anyone, much less someone ringing from Moscow and with a russian accent! :megalol: Besides, how are we to know whether something is exact or not? 99% of us (I'm guessing) will never step foot in an FA/18 cockpit much less go through fast jet training on it to be able to say 'hey Mr Dev, you're wrong in this point'. -
Its called Digital COMBAT simulator for a reason. Thats not to say it can't be added (or shouldn't be) but DCS is primarily a combat sim so I think it should stay focused on this. There are hundreds of types of military aircraft when you go back to WW2 and since then (plus variants). Why divert limited resources to developing civilian a/c when they can focus on these? I'd take an F4U Corsair or F4 Phantom II or F105 Thunderchief over a B737 any day. Civilian flying (esp the heavy iron) is primarily about getting from Point A to Point B on time and safely to deliver cargo/pax. Good luck trying to fly this over enemy territory. Unfortunately MH17 (may they RIP) is a good example of when that happens.

nah mate - when it comes to choppers, I fly in ARMA 3 exclusively. I'm not a big fan of the basic infantry combat in DCSW.
-
In the meantime, give the Huron a go in ARMA 3. Its basically a CH47 reskinned/renamed with retractable undercarriage. Atleast in that game you can actually do proper helicopter support ops (eg. troop transport, sling loading vehicles to the AO, etc). Whilst its not DCS-quality, its the one game where the helicopter is ACTUALLY used for something other than flying around and firing at practice targets.

Poll for Civil Modules you would buy for DCS World

lol good point. -
I'm a big fan of the Vietnam air war ie. I'd love for ED to recreate this as DCS would be an excellent platform for it esp Route Pack 6. At the minimum, we'd need an F105 and an F4 or perhaps even the F100.

Will the Skies over Normandy be populated?!
The_Pharoah replied to Celestiale's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
+1 for that. I'm also keen on Edge. I'm so over the current map. Its just.....bland. Once we get a dedicated Normandy map complete with time period vehicles/weapons/etc, I reckon you'll get more traffic. I've always thought that it would be great to have a channel-type map (south eastern England, western europe possibly incl Norway, etc) which was always on, there would always be something for even single players (online) to do eg. fighter sweeps, 'rhubarb' missions, bombing missions, strafing missions, escort, etc. And the transit to/from the main AO wouldn't be that long either. Again though...have the correct map and you'll get more traffic because it would truly become a 'proper' WW2 server (not a make believe one based in Georgia). -
Really? I certainly didn't know that. I'm assuming its still dependent on someone making the map though right?
-
lol only that? :P I'd be happy with a handful of a/c but a PROPER map. Western Europe would be perfect (which is what they're creating I understand). My main issue though is ensuring a/c are developed with the correct period in mind eg. you can't develop a P-51D and Spit XIV for the allies, and an ME-109E or 4 for the Axis and expect them to be able to battle on even terms. From memory, you always had a rough match up in a/c between the Allies/Germans eg. Spit I, II - BF109E/F Spit V/IX, P51B/D, P47B/D - BF109G/K, FW190A2 (I think) I'm more interested in the ground attack or anti shipping roles ie. Hawker Typhoon / Tempest, DeHavilland Mosquito, Bristol Beaufighter.
-
Other than the Tempest, I'd like to fly either the F4U or F6F. However, you'd probably need a Zero or KI84 to go up against it which means you need etc etc etc etc.... They did use these a/c against the Luftwaffe in Italy I believe.
-
Good point. I also thought about this. I've been keen on a US helicopter gunship (eg. the AH1 from Belsimtek) but also thought how difficult it would be (or is supposed to be) with just 1 pilot if you're flying on an empty server say. Not just that...how about flying with some random who takes pleasure in just fkg $hit up or wasting ammo. This will work really well in a clan-type environment or with peeps using TS3...or on public servers with like-minded individuals. Life is like a box of chocs aye? :)
-
I'd much prefer the F-105. Saw a heck of a lot more action I understand, drops a heck of a lot of bombs, and actually shot down Migs in North Vietnam (24.5 vs 0 for the F-104)! :) plus the 'G' variant could actually do SEAD missions.

@_Acoustic_ - love your sig mate! (Big fan of the A6 Intruder)

What should come after Europe 1944?
The_Pharoah replied to flare2000x's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
+1 to that :) we're getting spoilt for choice!! All I want is a Hawker Tempest *drool*. Okay I'd settle for the Typhoon (but without the tail coming on a regular basis like the RL version did). 4 x 20mm Hispano cannon would be fun. -
whilst I love seeing these sneak peeks...I also hate it because I don't have access to play it right now :(

Shein's X-55 Rhino A-10C Profile
The_Pharoah replied to Shein's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
How did you get the little mouse nipple thingy on the X55 throttle to work? I'm assuming you mapped this to slew? -
one thing that must be mentioned from the video....the quality of flying displayed! talk about a smooth takeoff and flight. Bravo! (I normally do the huey shuffle on t/o).
-
Love the new map. What I would like to see is whether ED have made bigger/better explosions in 2.0. The explosions in the current version are nice but a bit arcadish.
-
Yes I have but only a few - I don't spend all day on this forum hitting F5
-
What I don't get is, devs focusing on developing training aircraft for DCS (C101, Hawk, etc) rather than older actual combat aircraft eg. A4, F105, A6, etc. I mean, these a/c saw a lot of action in Vietnam whereas the Hawk/C101/etc really haven't (maybe in Sth America, I dunno).

nah mate, I still stick with my two: 1. FA/18 Super Hornet 2. AH64 Apache (or AH1 Cobra) We can't forget the attack helicopter scene. Lots of folks (me included) love being down in the weeds. -

The_Pharoah replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS Wishlist
Flying civilian a/c online is fun for about 5 minutes...then you see a fully loaded A10C or SU25T fly past and get the 'itch' to want to blow some $hit up. I do. No civil a/c for me. Would prefer the devs work on something like the F105 Thunderchief or A6 Intruder or F4 Phantom II. -
I've posted on this before...I would LOVE a Vietnam map complete with jungles, fire bases, etc but especially North Vietnam with its network of SAMs, AAA and Migs. From my reading of the numerous road map type articles from the devs, I'm sure this is something they've picked up on and are probably going to implement. I mean, imagine that....a dedicated Vietnam Air War server that you could use the Hueys (slicks/gunships) on proper missions. Yeah you'd need a few more a/c (eg. F105, F4 Phantom II, Mig 19) to go with what we have currently (Mig 21, F100 Super sabre thats in development). However as defender (NVA) you could also use a version of combined arms for SAM defense. So much potential....*sigh*
