Should EWR and AWACS really increase the ability of artillary? It is an interesting feature by all means (and I am not knocking it), but in real life does this increase in ability exist? I know spotters and artillary radar (locates where rounds land) exist and obviously will help, but I wouldnt have thought radar that tracks airborn targets would help. http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/cs/aad_mst.htm http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/cs/alr.htm

From what has been posted in previous threads (please, others fill in the blanks) Is LOBS on track ? - I don't know. Is speedtree to be implemented? - Not in BS. Are we going to see an extended map? - Yes, some of Georgia is going to be modelled Is AI going to be better? Will the F-15 and A-10 be improved in any way ? - Not in any major way, if in fact at all. After LOBS what can we expect in the short (1 year) term ? - I imagine they are starting to look at a new engine, so nothing short term. Is a new map going to be available? - You asked this earlier What kind of ME improvements can we expect? - Non. Is an F-16/MiG-29in the horizon ? - Maybe in future editions, lockon 2 maybe... And the AH-64 Apache ? - Issue arrises with the 2 men aircraft.

They are leaders becuase they like to organise things and are very beuracratic? A simple (and useful) life lesson, just becuase someone is in command, doesnt mean he is better at the task than the people he commands. Leaders lead, the team performs.

Dont forget that B52 scale model that crashed (was massive). The pilots apparently lost control and it crashed and burned (I am sure someone will post the video below). Thinking about it now, I wonder if it was poorly controlled, or one of these were just out of view locking it up...

I used a variety of the mentioned techniques above. However, as well as having the little stick thing under my left thumb on the X45 throttle control the TDC, I also mapped the mouse to the TDC. The difference is amazing. The amount of control is increased ten fold. So with the ground pounders you can put the cursor directly over anything very quickly (makes up for the time you have to take hand off stick), also mapping LMB to target lock (ground stabalise) helps also. Not exactly real life controls, but I doubt the real aircraft have the dodgey movements we have to put up with, with the surrent sticks we have.

New Black Shark screen shots - 07 April 06
dynamocl replied to Wags's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
But what would be the point of the "Black Shark" if the crawling things didnt exist? -
I beleive nscode was making the point that LCDs were not around, and it's likely to be CRT.

Cowfreak makes a good point, not only do you get repaired, but the super efficient engineers also reset all systems (most systems and switches) on your plane, without you even knowing. So as you start the mission with canopy open, when you are repaired, the canopy will also open. Same with lights etc. This happens in most cases. If you were missing a wing, it will suddenly reappear - its things like that, that point out the repair job is done.

On multiplayer, you need to engine off, sit and wait, dont touch anything. Single player, there maybe a key combination for it.

(Pre warning) I am a pure ground attack pilot so forgive me if I am wrong. But won't this not work? Since the height of weapon release as currently modelled in lockon not have any impact on range? I have heard this mentioned since WAFM is non existant. If that is so, I guess your tactic works because the enemy target the aircraft in line of sight, hence ignoring the slot aircraft. For those that don't understand - he is saying a good tactic is to have a slower aircraft at the same height as enemy formation, head on. Another aircraft at a higher altitude travelling faster but behind the lower aircraft. In real life the faster aircraft with much greater altitude has much greater range with its weapons. However the enemy seeing the "slot" aircraft - the higher one being further away, treats it as less of a threat. However the slot aircraft having greater weapon range can engage the enemy - possibly before they can egage the forward aircraft. Again, as a pure ground attack pilot, I may be wrong (on both points).

Warthogs get a new set of tusks and teeth!
dynamocl replied to Galwran's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Does Holland actually have an Armed Service? You learn something everyday ;) </sarcasm> -
Janko, your post started promising, but then you took the wrong route of asking for an F-14. The Harrier should be the way of the future :)

From a pure sim attack aircraft pilot's perspective (25T and A-10) I can tell you all ATA missiles are far too effective, Aim 120, R77 the works are far too troublesome at the moment. Devs should make them less effective, not more. The forum is a buzz at the moment at all you poor fighter pilots moaning that you can't get 1 shot kills, and that radars can't scan through mountains. From my perspective, you guys are pains enough without these "mega fixes". PS - any hints on avoiding you guys are welcome (at the moment the best success rate us strike aircraft can hope for is to stay at the home plate - far too many fighters around).

zzzspace sound track radio chatter...
dynamocl replied to capttrob's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
You have the voices in your head as well? Actually, occasionally (usually after a stupidly long lomac weekend session), I kept hearing the Russian RWR paint warning (a su 25T pilot), the low, deep, quite booop warning. That was wierd. Anyway, my Psychologist is coming now, have to go. -
Limited Decal Stay? You want visible damage etc to dissapear over time? I hope not.

OT: Windows Vista RAM requirements
dynamocl replied to Shaman's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Err, are you guys (and that report) just basing these comments on that single screen shot?? If so I can do a similar task. 1) Boot up an OS (for this example lets say XP Home) 2) Create a quick and easy program that grabs a lot of memory (for example 800 MB) and creates a lot of threads 3) Open task manager... wow Page file usage is massive. Does this mean the OS is grabbing all the memory and creating lots of processes? Not really... I am not a Microsoft zealot, however I do get irritated by everyone jumping on the MS bashing bandwagon. You need to look at this more objectively. Yes, I agree programming lanuages are getting more bulky (as one of you proved earlier). But along with the bulk does come more features. Plus if software wasn't pushing the boundaries and demanding better hardware, we wouldn't be playing the lockon we have grown to like now. As much as you may not like it, the advancement of hardware and software go hand in hand. We could have just stuck with 486 architecture, but I like new things, so hey, if Vista needs 2G memory (which it won't) so be it. -
The expansion pack - Rome Barbarian Invasion has been released for a while now. They are even talking about the next game in the series Medieval 2: Total War. RTW has been out for ages now. But it is still a nice change of scenery

Actually, everynow and again (quite rare), I too have the input delay and sluggish responses. I would estimate one in every 100 multiplayer session. Not a big enough problem to not buy the game though.
-
Make sure to backup your controller setup, takes ages to get it back to what it was.
-
sorry srikeout, didn't know it was your forum. Wasnt my first line hint enough?
-
Sounds more like a term used on the recent "Enterprise" series.
-
You would get better response by contacting the people that matter, rather than posting on a public forum. Plus, I hope they spend time getting the game out and ready and not getting distracted by including support for every single peripheral know to man.

Ever thought of making a blog? That might seem mroe appropriate for these "discussions"

I have not seen it modelled anywhere to be honest. But I did miss the boat with regards to the "Tornado" sim. I played a demo on my old Amiga 500+, very dodgey graphics, ran about about 2 fps. Couldnt take off with the plane shaking to pieces (this was before flight in general interested me). Back in real life though, I do know that us Brits did have trouble in the past conflicts with the direct launch of the ALARM. In loiter mode it works as it says on the box, but they had trouble releasing them like the HARM (as is modelled with the SEAD missiles in lockon and Falcon). I beleive this problem with direct launch has since been sorted. Just a shame only a very small amount of airforces use them - you have to wonder why if it is the case of one alarm doing the job the 100 or so others couldnt do (if you beleive that). It must be down to cost and pricing - complexity must come at a premium.

Well, isn't quick to design trees and place forests, but is also kind to memory and other PC specifications. So I think it is "speed" in both cases.
