I certainly use DLC more on the A than the B. I use a smaller range of throttle at far lower fuel flows I do in the B. I haven't found a sweet spot and I suspect that environmental factors like gusting winds probably make a set-and-forget throttle position impossible IRL. As for visuals, I do like to have the needles on the VDI to get me in the ballpark. I also raise my head position so I can see the yaw string. Then it's just lineup, AoA and meatball.

I don't suppose ED would be willing to maybe let a hotfix happen a little earlier than the 16th of December?
-
I'm seeing similar seemingly random changes in performance from day to day, but with both Tomcats. I'm suspicious that this is an ED problem rather than an HB one.
-
It's happening for me, too. It raises the question of what else doesn't work correctly on the Supercarrier. The speed callouts from the LSO seem to be broken for both Tomcats, so I would assume that the LSO grading is not accurate. I'm not convinced the ball is where it should be, but ICLS seems to me to be pretty close.

These are beautiful. Thank you very much for taking the time to make and share them!

Jester menu has those instructions.

When and how will carrier landings be improved?
Biggus replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Bring it on. I'm looking forward to this too. -
Great video. Can't wait for the A.

Thanks for doing this. It's very useful.

The Forrestal is coming and will be available to everyone, I believe.

It'd be nice for the boat to broadcast a warning of an impending turn, and it'd be even nicer if it then broadcast that the turn had been completed and the new BRC/FB is xxx. My RIO has heard many a swearword as I've settled into the groove or have just passed final contact and the ship has started to turn. Then again, I have no idea how it's done IRL.

To some degree it's the controller, either not enough resolution or speed and lack of physical feedback. It's one of those things IMO that is easier in real life than in sims. I've only used the analog trim wheels on GA birds and not a digital button on a jet stick though.

Aside from the induced drag and looking cooler, I guess another other benefit is that when you roll out downwind, your pitch trim is closer to where you need it to be as you dirty up.

CPU overclock - is it truely worth it for DCS?
Biggus replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't agree with very much of this, either as an overclocker or car enthusiast. Nobody is suggesting that a person open up their bios and set massive vcore with absolutely zero knowledge or guidance or research, and the level of knowledge required to safely overclock a system is easily available today. Why would anyone overclock their system to the point where in-usage performance is degraded? Components certainly have parameters that they need to operate within, but that's certainly accounted for by anyone with the most basic level of reading comprehension. Intel provide specific chipsets for motherboards with the design intent of overclocking. They provide CPUs that support overclocking. AMD support overclocking across three main families of motherboard chipsets today. The aftermarket supports a wide range of cooling options. The internet has a huge range of reading resources available for every modern consumer OC-capable CPU. If a person owns an overclockable system and has the time and motivation to learn, then I'd encourage them to do so. Historically, for myself and many others it has had nothing but benefits. As for the car analogy, it's not really accurate to say that getting more power out of a motor will degrade it's longevity. It's sometimes true, but it regularly isn't. -
CPU overclock - is it truely worth it for DCS?
Biggus replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would not assume that you are shortening a system's life with every overclock. Some will draw less current and will actually give a longer life. Some will absolutely reduce life expectancy but still provide a far greater lifespan than you'd ever need. Like getting nine years and eight months instead of ten years. Some can and will degrade a CPU in months, days, minutes or seconds. Learn the limits of your CPU through research. RAM timings are also worth tweaking for some systems, but that's something you can learn later if you need it. -
It infers a user error. That's it.

You're either actively trying to be offended or completely misinterpreting what both of us have said to you. Neither of us have said anything remotely like IFF not being important or shouldn't be part of the module. We both offered suggestions that you might consider using in order to help you out, because your rather difficult to read opening post did not make clear the circumstances in which you are having difficulty identifying contacts. Establishing contact status (hostile/ambiguous/friendly/unknown) takes more than just a back seater hitting an IFF button and spitting out an answer IRL, and it's much the same at present in the game. Have a second source of information. Open the F10 map. Use the AWACS datalink. If you're WVR, use the TCS. I never listen to Jester when WVR and always use the TCS, especially against Western aircraft because he often makes critical errors with them. I'm not against having an AWACS interrogate function added, but it'd rank very lowly on the list of things that need doing. By the way, you mentioned MP in your opening diatribe. I would have assumed that you wanted a response to the content and not just the title of this topic. Also, when someone refers to a 'meat-based' issue, it implies that the entity being spoken about is human rather than AI. It is another way to explain that the problem exists between keyboard and chair. Peace.
-
Same here. No mods. AV-8B has been disabled. I own it and cannot use it. Not very happy right now.
-
This problem sounds meat-based. I second the motion that this is a non-issue. If you can't establish whether a contact is hostile, don't fire. You cannot rely entirely on Jester for hostile/friendly calls as he sometimes makes mistakes, so you need a second source of information anyway. Use the TCS, maybe try using chat or voice comms if on MP.

A-4E Skyhawk: Will it work with Supercarrier?
Biggus replied to Thinder's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
They both started as nose-tow birds. I assume that the shuttle was changed as required, but I have no idea how difficult that would have been to do. -
A-4E Skyhawk: Will it work with Supercarrier?
Biggus replied to Thinder's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I seriously doubt that it would be practical to retrofit launch gear. It would be a design consideration from the outset, considering the sorts of load that would be exerted when launching. Keep in mind that it took over two decades after the introduction of nose-tow aircraft for bridle launched aircraft to be completely gone from the decks of US carriers. If it could have been done at reasonable cost, it would have been. -
Been seeing this on the GAW server too. ATC response to an inbound call is to provide case 1 directions, but radio menu is case 2/3. I'll try to get a track if I have time.
-
Completely anecdotally, the single time I replayed a track since the SC released, it was flawless. I suspect it is a fluke, but it's a nice fluke to have happen.
-
I don't think this is a pointless thread, but it would be good to expand upon the voting options with more information. Some people don't understand what mission cards are, what the UFC backup page is, etc. I know I had to go and look for more information to answer a few questions.

Tiny Jester suggestion - move cancel assisted start please?
Biggus replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
+1. It'd be a nice little QoL change at some point if this could accomplised. Or maybe even leave it in the same place and add a deeper 'are you sure?' menu as a safety.
