Someone asked for basic resources. http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aircraft/ If those have been posted before, sorry for not finding and bumping the thread! Currently most interesting: Helicopter Flying http://www.faa.gov/library/manuals/aircraft/media/faa-h-8083-21.pdf

2 campaign for DCS BS English versions - ONLY FOR XP!!!
Woodstock replied to zika1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Correct, as stated by Wags here: http://www.simhq.com/_air12/air_394a.html -
Yes, this will sure work. I just had already removed the "1C" subfolder from my original russian install, that's why I had to bother.
-
Yes, it worked for me, as I stated above. I copied: ...\Ka-50\BlackShark\w1.lua (my "Options: Save Settings" profile) ...\Ka-50\Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\joystick\ (all .lua's except default.lua) ...\Ka-50\Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\keyboard\ (all .lua's except default.lua) ...\Ka-50\Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\mouse\ (all .lua's except default.lua) ...\Ka-50\Config\Input\Aircrafts\ka-50\trackir\ (all .lua's except default.lua) and ...\Ka-50\Missions\ (my personal missions) to their counterpart folders in the new english install. That's it. BTW, @ ED: The plural of "aircraft" is "aircraft", not "aircrafts". And the summary term for airports, airfields, airbases etc. is "aerodromes", not "airdromes".

Can´t speak for anyone but myself, but here´s how I did it today: I´ve had the russian DL-version for around 3 weeks installed in F:\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\... F:\Eagle Dynamics\ is empty except for the "Ka-50" folder. Prior to installing the newly downloaded english version, I created new folder "BS_RU" in F:\Eagle Dynamics\ and droped the old Ka-50 folder in that new one. Then I modified the two BS desktop links to include the new path F:\Eagle Dynamics\BS_RU\Ka-50\ and renamed them both to something like "Black Shark RU (/MP)". Tried and tested the modification, then installed the new english version. No problems there, you get a new "Ka-50" folder in F:\Eagle Dynamics\ which leads now to the english BS, and you get two new default desktop icons. The only specialty was that when activating the english BS, the serial entry field already offered by default to use the old serial of the russian version. I had to delete and replace it with the newly acquired serial of the english download. After install, I copied my setting and hardware profiles and my edited missions from the russian to the english BS folders and I was ready to go. Both installs work like a charm, I´m currently enjoying finally the training videos which I had to skip before due to my bad (read: non-existant) Russian. Don´t anybody blame me if this doesn´t work for you as well.

Sure, why not! I suggest to name it "Uncle Ironhand's Kindergarten".

English Version with German language?
Woodstock replied to WRFirefox's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
No, € 99,99.:smartass: Seems like I´m not the only one in a silly mood today, must be the excitement. Sorry, Groove and other mods, if us oldtimers force you to clarify all that kidding to keep it from being misunderstood and taken for real by the new forum arrivals... -
I suppose, like € 50.- being in the price range of $ 50.- ... :D I can live with pricing differences to weaker markets like CIS and US...:music_whistling:

Whazzzzuuuppp! Wow, Jim just dropped his pants. I imagine him doing it like in the Fighter Fling video, the refueling scene with the Playstation gamepad... http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-4-Df1g3c Time 2:45

Is that from the TV series ED was contracted to produce a BS sim for?

Thanks a bunch, Matt! Those are my highlight quotes: "Damned if you do, damned if you don’t." "From the time Black Shark goes into retail, we hope to have A-10C out nine months after that. Note that that is not a promise, just our current goal!" "...roughly only 5% of DCS customers ever play online, we still feel it a very import aspect of the simulation and we’ve spent a lot of time re-writing the network code for Black Shark..." "...we are already working on integrated VOIP communications..." "...we already have several air-to-air fighters like the Su-27 and F-16 in development to be introduced into the DCS environment at a later date." "Most of the items we first want to flesh-out are improved ground AI. We’ve already been working on ground unit scattering when under attack and using smoke grenades. We intend for the ground units to be less cooperative when trying to be killed." ---------------------------------------------- BTW, on improved ground AI: Leopard Tanks hiding inside burning Marder IFV wrecks. Very clever indeed, who would shoot something that appears already dead?! Just teasing, I love BS!

DCS: Black Shark User Screenshots Dedicated Thread
Woodstock replied to Teknetinium's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Title: "Thank God, it´s koaxial...!" -
My thoughts exactly. Thank you, Grisha and Jim! As I said in the opening post, I didn´t expect you to reply, so it is appreciated even more. I just wanted to let you know that I am feeling strongly about the issue. I can do that and still love the package for all it´s good points, being the best there is. For years we have been praying for a combination of LockOn´s and Falcon´s strong points. BS is a huge leap towards the right direction, but we aren´t there yet, and as a matter of fact, most of us never will feel completely satisfied because the hobby is about a substitution for a (mostly broken) real-life dream. As long as the developers regard all the whining about whats missing as constructive criticism and display of passion, and as long as we consumers keep up our enthusiasm and active community work, there might be a brighter future for the PC-Mil-Flightsim-Hobby after 10 years of near starvation. All is said, and I´m gonna try not to be a nuissance about trees in the future. Who knows, I might even manage to refrain myself from writing: "Hey Andrey, Happy Birthday, how´s the tree solution coming along?" on Chizh´s next anniversary... :smilewink:

It has been said why the Ka-50 has been employed in the way shown on pics and videos, but this is not the typical Fulda Gap scenario it was drafted for. Another great video of helo low flying, this time in an environment similar to our Georgian woods: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=mRt5mvk-2iw I´ve personally seen German Army PAH-1 choppers (Bo-105 with 6 TOWs) practicing like that near their base at Roth, their pilots stating that below-treetop-level flight was your only protection in an unarmed flying machine on a cold-war scenario. Enjoy the video! - And then imagine a barrage of 23 mm coming out of that third tree on your left - and then you know you´re in BS again...:smilewink:

I knew that in DCS: Black Shark Version 1.0 trees would be fly/drive/shoot-through and see-through for AI units and sensors. I knew it because ED were so kind to announce it beforehand and I thought: ok, no big deal, if they have their reasons and they feel they can release without tree collision model and sensor blocking then I can live with it as well. I was wrong. I´ve got BS on my harddrive for less than 2 weeks and already after only around 25 hours in pit I have to admit: I´ve got (tree) issues. The -thought occurrs to me in each and every mission I flew so far: - My Shkval shouldn´t be able to continue tracking that BTR disappearing into the woods. - That BTR shouldn´t be able to continue straight ahead at 50 km/h through the dense forrest. - My Vikhr shouldn´t be able to reach it, nor my designating laser. - The AA units in the middle of the forrest he was racing towards shouldn´t be able to see, sense, lock, track and shoot upon me with neither shell nor missile at a near horizontal angle through +200 m thick woods. - A multiplayer opponent shouldn´t be able to hide from my view inside a tree or race literally through vegetation. Helicopter combat is about hide and seek; the skilled pilot who is able to sneak up on his target by hopping from clearing to clearing, by sideslipping into a new position for a well-timed pop-up, he should be rewarded. In the current release of BS it is even worse than if there were no trees at all: everybody sees you while you cannot see them. With this I have found a huge dent in my perception of this in many other ways awesome piece of software. Huge enough that I have to vent it here in public and that I feel the quality of the simulation would more than double with this single issue fixed. I am not seeking nor expecting any explanations from anyone. I can imagine myself a huge number of reasons why things are as they are and I don´t want to start a time-wasting speculation. I also don´t ask for any information about future proceedings on this issue. I guess I´m not telling anything new to those in charge, nevertheless, please still regard this posting as constructive criticism. Forgive my rant, I just felt the urge to voice my opinion, to make sure nobody felt the current state was "ok"... Kind regards, Woody

The Virtual Fighter Bomber Wing 32 is a German-speaking community of aviation enthusiasts that virtually simulates military airmanship and which is organized roughly like the original German Air Force FBW 32 in Lechfeld Airbase (ETSL). Our goal is a simulation of military aviation as real as possible, based on the software "DCS: Black Shark" and "DCS: A-10C" by Eagle Dynamics. We thrive for good comradeship amongst our members, online as well as in real life. Equally important to us are great contacts to and knowledge exchange with other online squadrons worldwide. All our members constructively contribute to virtual wing life. Their accomplishments are being acknowledged, respected and honored. Our vision is to belong to the best online squadrons in the world and to enjoy an outstanding reputation as fair, team-oriented and competent simulation pilots. We are currently recruiting pilots for DCS: Black Shark and DCS: A-10C. With the ongoing start-up of our attack helicopter squadron, we extend our established services, administration and infrastructure to the Black Shark community. Our fixed-wing squadrons are currently transitioning to the A-10C. New beginnings always make for a wide range of opportunities, so if you want to be creative and help building, besides becoming one of the meanest sticks in the shadows of the valley of death, Join us now! see contact info below German text: Das Virtuelle Jagdbombergeschwader 32 ist eine deutschsprachige Vereinigung von Luftfahrt-Enthusiasten, die die virtuelle Kampffliegerei simuliert und in Anlehnung an das reale Jagdbombergeschwader 32 in Lechfeld organisiert ist. I learned today that Dieter Hofmann, deveploper and manufacturer of the well known Simped hardware rudder pedals died on May 11th at the age of 61 after a long and cruel suffering from cancer. Amongst other USB pedals in his product range, Dieter earned worldwide reputation at Frugal´s and many other TM HOTAS Cougar owners for his fine F-16/C pedals that plug directly into the stick and are fully Foxy-programmable. His family announced that most orders were being shipped and pedals are currently out of stock, the company´s future unshure but undecided. http://www.dhs-electronic.de/home.htm The flightsim community has lost one of its very few dedicated hardware contributors of worldwide appreciation, good quality and great value-for-money. Sitting down at my desk setup felt different today, with a feeling of gratitude and pity for Dieter, because noone, especially not him, deserves to suffer. And a sad feeling that the piece under my feet has become until further irreplaceable. Thank you, Dieter, rest in peace!

Lockon 1.12b: I have no ILS
Woodstock replied to RalfNeumann's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Ralf, If you wish to get LockOn help in German language, try: http://www.modern-air-combat.de http://www.lockon-hq.de http://www.lockonforum.de -
Sounds awsome! Us customers, we will have to globally coordinate our buying behaviour to control sales numbers: They must be allowed to make a good profit, to invest in personnel and hardware and to continue this series forever. However, we cannot allow them to make a fortune, because once they can all afford their personal MiG and Fiji island, they might just stop making sims...:smartass:
