I am definitely not an expert at any of this so I’ll refrain from giving out any actual advice and just relate my own experience with the a 14900KS. All the tech support I received was through my PC vendor. My first 14900KS was purchased in April of 2024 and by July has started to exhibit repeated CTDs. I was able to solve this problem by updating the BIOS which likely included those fixes above. By the end of July just a few weeks later, I became aware of the widespread degradation issue with the 13 and 14 series chips. By mid-August a “microcode” fix was put out for my MB to halt the degradation problem. Afaik it did things like enforce the Intel defaults and disable the Multi-Core Enhancement feature of the MB. If going in and tinkering with the BIOS seems intimidating, updating the whole thing is rather easy. Some MB utilities can do this from Windows. Now the 14900KS is repeatedly crashing again and a BIOS update doesn’t solve this. From looking that that timeline above it seems pretty clear that the chip could have been damaged between April and July. I can only guess how these things behave when damaged varies a lot. It still shows very good (even better) performance on benchmarks and the games run very well until just quitting. My previous 13900K did exhibit noticeable performance drops but never crashed. At this point I just plan to replace the 14900KS with another one as the microcode fix supposedly resolved the degradation issue.

5090, nothing learned from the 4090 problems...

It doesn’t look like there are too many easy solutions here. How about a power brick for your GPU? https://medium.com/@noahbean3396/the-rtx-5090-power-connector-controversy-another-generation-another-meltdown-c9863b93b64d No wonder it’s such a small improvement over the prior generation. It looks like it’s at the limit of what the current power ecosystem can handle. -

I thought they can use both types? -

TL;DW all these videos. How many 12V-2x6 connectors have actually failed? Or is this just theoretical? The 12VHPWR have definitely melted. Apparently some of the newer 4090s are made to accept the 12V-2x6 but you probably have to remove the cooler plate to find out. https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/not-all-rtx-40-series-super-gpus-use-the-new-12v-2x6-connector-new-images-of-16-pin-h-power-connector-emerge -

I actually had my slider all the way to the max level without any problems. Although I don't see anything different now that I lowered it to the normal preset of 60,000. Of course that’s with 64GB of memory.
-
Oh does that actually work? My experience with Nvidia has been that their AA settings in the Control Panel didn’t seem to have any effect.

I would turn on Anti-aliasing. That will get rid of the “sparkly jagged” look. I don’t think DLSS works with AMD graphics cards. Nor DLAA. If you’re getting 100 FPS you could afford to lose some frames in order to get the smoother image MSAA anti-aliasing will provide. Also turn on Anisotropic Filtering.

It would sure seem to be the best move for anyone getting this card to use the 12V-2x6 connector. Not the 12VHPWR https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/explorer/diy-builder/power-supply-units/evolving-standards-12vhpwr-and-12v-2x6/ -
Agree. That would be a super addition to the WWII roster.

DCS SEPECAT Jaguar Development Resumes!!!!!!!!!

Pardon my snarkyness Personally I try not to get too excited about new stuff coming to DCS that’s going to be years in the making. -
Yeah I saw that. Anything is worth trying at this point. My own tech support is out of ideas, the CPU and Mobo really just need to be replaced. But if something can hold me over until the end of March I see there’s some new X3D chips coming. Yep that’s what’s happening here. The 13900 didn’t crash, it just started performing really bad. This one performs really well until it just quits
-
I wonder if that's the problem, despite the BIOS fix. The benchmark scores for the 14900 are still good. When the 13900 went boom I could see it in the scores.
-
Oh I did that one already back when the degradation thing happened. The BIOS default now turns off the Asus MC enhancement and runs the Intel settings.
-
I did update the motherboard BIOS at the start of this trouble. Other games are crashing now too so not just DCS.

Tried it plugged into the wall, still crashed DCS250211-1.zip

I’m going to try plugging the machine directly into the wall and bypassing my surge protector. The Mem Test was run on the surge protector. For those others: - Disable Game Mode and Disable Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling: These are easy enough to test but I’ve been running the game with those enabled for years so I’m not sure why they’d suddenly cause a problem - Disable Core Isolation: Don’t know how to do this nor probably want to mess with it. - In the BIOS, set Min/Max Cache Ratio to "Auto", if you have such an option: BIOS is set for Optimized Default. Prefer not to mess with that - Ensure Windows Power mode is set to High Performance: This is done - Ensure no drive is full or nearly full (especially your system drive and your DCS drive): Drive is not full - Disable HPET: I understand hyperthreading is supposed to be enabled for this CPU. In any case again I rather not mess with that.

They admit guilt by putting a better connector on their next card I got to experience this one firsthand and now I’m the owner of the world’s most expensive drink coaster. -

The 5 series cards can also use the improved 12V-2x6 design. Definitely a worthwhile replacement if you’re going that route. I’m sure these YouTubers know that despite the clickbait titles https://www.corsair.com/us/en/explorer/diy-builder/power-supply-units/what-power-cable-does-the-nvidia-geforce-rtx-5090-use/ Already happened it was dismissed https://www.classaction.org/news/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-melting-class-action-alleges-graphics-card-sold-with-defective-power-cable-plug-socket#:~:text=Filed: November 11%2C 2022 ◆,org's free weekly newsletter here. -
