Integrated & Unified Benchmarking Tool for DCS
SharpeXB replied to Limaro's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You probably know this but the in-game counter will tell you if you’re CPU or GPU limited. I’m not sure what the point is in being so elaborate about performance testing is when it varies so greatly.- 9 replies

Well of course. For example rudder pedals are nearly universal between aircraft so saving and loading a profile for those works pretty well. But there are few truly common controls for these modules. If I was setting this all up again, and will be soon with a new HOTAS I’d create a profile for say the throttle with that axis and the zoom view and such on it. Then copy it into each model and edit from there. I can’t envision what a “control set up wizard” is never seen one in any other game.

Integrated & Unified Benchmarking Tool for DCS
SharpeXB replied to Limaro's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Seems like a simple reasonable idea, all this needs is a standard track in the game. Some reasons why I think it hasn’t been done: It could only use free maps and modules and so might not provide useful results for the range of content in the sim. Personally how an Su-25 flying over the Caucasus performs is irrelevant to me. It would require a working track feature. This has been broken for many years, not sure if that’s been fixed entirely. DCS as a sandbox has the potential for such a wide range of scenarios, a “typical” one is hard to define. Multiplayer is sometimes much more demanding than single-player. Any preset or standard track has the potential to have bugs or break. The game will change and evolve over time so trying to be so exact about how any particular component performs for this one game at this one moment isn’t worthwhile. Finally all you need to test your own performance is to run your own track. I don’t know that a standard one matters so much. But it would be easy to include with the game.- 9 replies

Do they write English in Australia? Yes, get TrackIR. It appears Beam Eye Tracker is not very good. It shouldn’t be necessary to disable head tracking like that in order to use the cockpit.
-
Yeah I get about 120 FPS at the most using a 4090 and being GPU limited. Using 4K and max setting and 4x MSAA. Maps like CW Germany will be lower.

Does DCS benefit bigly from OLED?
SharpeXB replied to Beirut's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes DCS and everything else looks fantastic on an OLED. I gotta say DCS is rather dated and doesn’t exploit what a screen like this can really do like HDR but it’s still the best this game can look. I was curious about burn-in too but there are pixel shifting and cleaning feature which seem to negate this. I use mine for working at home full time as well as gaming and haven’t seen any sort of damage from three years of continual use. -
I don’t know how ED will do a global map since they’ve said the streaming technology which would make that feasible isn’t affordable for them. And a map that size which needs to fit on your drive will look like something from 20 years ago.

I was curious about this too when considering a stick upgrade. I think very few flight sims today have native support. It looks like that’s all generated by the stick software. But yeah native to the game would probably result in better quality. I see DCS is a mixed bag depending on the module.

Mouse behaviour changes for Head Trackers
SharpeXB replied to Psycho666's topic in DCS Core Wish List
If it’s not already possible in the config files an easier solution would just be the ability to change the cursor size and color. Personally I have no trouble seeing this using TrackIR. My guess is that this issue is particular to VR given the small sweet spot of some HMDs but not head trackers in general. Also, welcome to DCS- 1 reply

Were DCS modules ever sold as hard copies? Download is malarkey? That doesn’t make sense… This doesn’t strike me as the type of game someone would rent. It’s not like some game you play through in 20 hours or so and then quit. Those possibly made sense to rent but not this.

I don’t fly the F-16 but that HUD behavior might be realistic. The A-10 HUD image extends beyond the edges of the glass and you need to move your head to see it all.
-
Even better. It’s = contraction of “it is”. its = the possessive of “it” So it’s an aircraft that carries bombs under its wings
-
Oh my bad. It would be Eagle Dynamics’ map since Dynamics is plural. Corrected to Wag’s map.
-
Actually the title: “There are no "E"'s in Caucasus“ would correctly be written without the apostrophe before the s ‘s is possessive as in “Wag’s map”. The meaning there is plural as in “DCS maps”

Don’t even try to correct spelling or grammar around here English is a lovely language

Yeah that’s why I got the CH to hold me over till then. Right, that's a nice little add. What kept me with the CH stuff for so long is too many of the higher quality devices are like “home cockpit” style and not “desktop” meaning if you want to use your PC for anything else, moving them around is just more difficult. Like the Warthog throttle is 14 lbs and these throttles have big bases and too many switches for my needs. CH did fit the bill for being desktop form factor but lots of buttons.
-
Yeah the action on the throttle is a bit stickier than my last one. Time to look at something more current. The Virpil CDT line has the best form factor and value for me I think.

Could that mini stick be used for the mouse control in the cockpit? Seems like that might be awkward or a conflict. Can’t figure a use for a second analog stick. Good that it can be reassigned then.
