  1. Note: Open canopy first before repairing. Goes much easier You can also re-arm/refuel while repairing.
  2. Actually yes the p-51. Over in Aces high it is common knowledge as the issue is simulated. There are many references to it on-line but here is one: http://www.mustangsmustangs.com/p-51/p51variants/P-51B.php " Fully fueled and loaded, the P-51B and P-51C were a handful in take-off and climb. Pilot's soon learned to burn most of the fuel in the fuselage tank first, then switch to the drop tanks before you had to drop them and fight" Here's a thread where it was discussed, including a 51 pilot. http://www.mustangsmustangs.us/thehangar/index.php?action=printpage;topic=115.0 "Initially we were unaware of the stability problem with a full fuselage tank and so in an effort to conserve fuel we would use the drop tank fuel first. The problem was that in a steep turning contest over Ploesti, our guys were reporting that once the turn had been established, they found themselves pushing FORWARD on the stick with all their strength to prevent the turn winding up. Some succeeded, some did not. Those that could not prevent the turn from getting tighter and tighter reported that the bird would whip over into the most vicious high speed stall snap roll they could imagine. This often culminated with a spin. To the best of my knowledge most were able to recover in the 30,000 feet or so they had available; however, it is possible that some who did not return might have failed to recover. Within a couple of weeks we were given orders that after takeoff, we would burn the fuselage tank down to 35 gallons which would prevent the above from happening....well theoretically at least. <S>
  3. I don't fly FSX but there is support. It's called Prepared http://www.prepar3d.com/support/sdk/
  4. I would suggest going to the start menu and entering eagle dynamics/dcs world and "update dcs world" Do that for as many times as needed until it doesn't update anymore.
  5. Good info. Don't know if you meant to make a new thread or extend the other one about landing flaps. Also add that you should line up the HUD flight path marker with the point on the runway you want to touch down. Also remember to trim. Landing is no exception. Just FYI, the Power Setting to slow the plane down from 300+ knots 5 miles out with flaps etc. is Idle or just over. <S>
  6. Switch the radio mode switch to T/R Also you can google DCS A-10 Radio and get plenty of video's Here's one.
  7. A-10's are known for landing shot up planes. Here's one of many. She got it home without hydraulics. http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Stories1/001-100/0016_A-10-battle-damage/story0016.htm
  8. Maybe he'll announce the first "open beta" mentioned recently.
  9. Sometimes it helps to just shoot a blind Aim-9 towards Fighters to keep him busy while you hit the dirt.
  10. Very true in real life. But when listening on TS and playing it's not the case. It's not very smart to try to run an A-10 in most servers with Fighters operating. You rarely have backup and once they spot you it's lights out and another 20 minutes getting back to the same spot. If there was actual protection it would be great and the occasional getting shot down wouldn't be bad. Also if servers limited sides to their own TS channel the mud boys would be able to call for help without alerting the other side to their location.
  11. I found that the Fighters that concentrate on the mud movers are typically not very good against other Fighters. They try to pad their stats by taking easy kills and hiding from the other Fighters. The Fighter pilots that are skilled tend to wait for other fighters. Edit: How many times did I say Fighters? :)
  12. You do realize the thread has been dead for a year and a half? :music_whistling:
  13. I assume that if the compression area of the engine is damaged with holes it cant compress anymore. Trying to restart after a fire could result in another fire. Best to limp home on one motor unless of course both motors are hit.
  14. Repairing on the runway is fine for me. Just touch down further down so there is still room for others to operate. In multiplayer traffic isn't usually that high anyhow that a few minute repair is going to hurt. And a runway would not take days to clear with an A-10 fouling it. I'm sure the military could have it cleared in an hour. Worse case a bull dozer could just shove it off if needed.
  15. Haven't heard that about the F-16 but the P-51 was like that with it's auxiliary tank.
  16. A good place for the latest drives is Guru3d.com
  17. Guess it doesn't matter. The "World" is so small that if you take off with 100% fuel you can pretty much fly anywhere.
  18. Don't know. I actually didn't notice if the fuel pounds changed while flying.
  19. Last night I flew a mission on the hollow pointe server where the plane was already running on the runway at mission start. I lowered the amount of fuel from default 90% to 60%. After the message refueling complete the fuel gauge showed 0 but the pounds were correct. 2 landings and refueling later the same was showing. Edit: The plane was the A-10C
  20. I usually play multiplayer where targets tend to be a bit further out. First thing I do after a mission and out of ammo is to hit the red button to jettison the racks. That will get you 5-10 knots more speed. I like to be at around 17-20k altitude so when returning, set up an angle for a gradual descent to base. By the time I'm ready to approach speed is usually 320-350 knots. At 5 miles out, deploy the speed brakes and the landing flaps. The flaps deploy automatically at 190-180 kts retract the speed brake and lower the gear. Only small adjustments are needed from there to be at the correct speed when landing.
  21. When you touched down you were a little too slow and forgot to flare. Result is you hit pretty hard and almost broke the gear. Come in the same as you did but slow down some and get the flaps deployed before lowering the landing gear. Then keep it above 130 knots until you're at the runway. Drop throttle and flare with the nose up more. Any landing you can walk away from is good but if the crew chief gets to go home without repairing damage it's even better.
  22. Skate Make sure you're not running windows home edition when upping the ram past 16 gig. 16 is the limit. Pro and ultimate are higher
  23. Air to Air Refueling. When trimming, don't hold the hat switch. Simply tap it until you get the desired effect. Most cases if the plane starts drifting it only takes a couple of quick taps to straighten things out.
  24. Where are the capital "L"'s that belong on their foreheads :music_whistling::D
  25. Yup, no Doppler or very little
