Not to mention interesting terrain.
-
That's how things work in this business old chap.

Is it possible that we're placing targets farther apart than realistically a platoon of infantry would be from one another in the mission editor? I've never seen a group of infantry standing shoulder to shoulder or within 2 metres or so, they're always spread out because it takes effort to place them so close together.

I'm not a tremendously good P-51 pilot by any stretch but I do advise setting up some quickly reachable key commands (I use the switches on the warthog that I'd never use otherwise) for manual radiator control. It makes a lot of difference for me. There's no substitute for going fast for cooling but dropping out the radiator does wonders for engine cooling, even at 200 - 250 mph. I don't advise being over 61" MP at those speeds though even with an open radiator. My tactical abilities are worse than useless however, this is just my observation. As an aside: I'm very interested to see how other WWII aircraft deal with this sort of thing, I gather that most German aircraft didn't have manual cooling controls.

[REPORTED] Fw 190 Cockpit Bar! (answer Post #173)
Paradox replied to Krupi's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
We're only 24 pages in, this is going to continue, trust me. -
The D model will always be my favorite F-105 I think. 2000lbs lighter and a whole lot faster than the two seaters.
-
I would LOVE an F-105D in DCS. One of my favorite aircraft. Thud Ridge is still required reading for USAF officers I'm told. As for how it would stand up in a modern battlefield it's hard to say, it is still one of the fastest aircraft at sea level and its bomb load is pretty impressive. Aiming those bombs is certainly a challenge but you can wreck a pretty large area with a 4 ship flight of F-105s. No pesky back end multiseat stuff to work out either unlike the F-15E or F-111

Maybe Oleg knows something we don't. No idea.

Oh hi there. In terms of sqaure kilometres how large would you say the final map will be?

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
Paradox replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
What I hope for most of all is that we can all move on from this and move forward regardless of what our opinion was on the matter. We're a small enough group as it is and we didn't need splitting. Small and dedicated communities are only vicious because they care. Passion over spite. -
We're so lucky to have you and people like you Yo-Yo. Keep up the great work.

Would love to see a Yak-3 or La-5.. I'm not going to am I?
-
One thing is sure, DCS is going to get expensive in the next year or two... I have no self control :(
-
I seem to remember Wags talking about a MiG-15 in development from an unnamed 3rd party... That would be ace if we could have the two very significant aircraft.
-
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes but we won't know anything until they actually have something to show. They're making the T-38C for their first project potentially followed up by one of the F-14s (hopefully the D model). Don't know anything about the F-22, it was my impression that it's a low priority for them, personally I don't know how they'll do it.

MI-8 Magnificent Eight, Flight Dynamics Questions
Paradox replied to MaverickF22's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I think you did the right thing, if nobody criticised or commented on beta software bugs and issues would never be fixed. Tomorrow I'll actually finally be getting around to flying the thing. -
FPS and Mi-8: your experience?
Paradox replied to BaD CrC's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
This is measurably untrue. Your eyes don't have a refresh rate, they are able to distinguish smooth transitions and non-smooth transitions from one image to the next. Most people start to top out at around 140fps, not 24. A stable 20fps might appear 'better' than a fluctuating between 40 and 20 but a stable 60 (or 120 if you have a 120hz monitor) is optimal (although hard to get in DCS) TV shows are at 24fps (NTSC) or 25fps (PAL) but they appear smooth because the frame transition is smoothed or blurred. -
P-51D in game mode or something like that, P-51D in sim mode would be getting the DCS P-51 for free which none of us did. I would think that RRG would make a plane that they didn't necessarily have all that much data on, a 'sacrificial lamb' sort of plane, maybe one of the Italian planes for the freebie.
-
Ohhh right. I think I can get behind the idea. I think it would probably be better to have the existing DCS world client be able to switch between WWII and modern 'modes' but two installs would work just as well I think. I'll see where this is going. Word of advice though, don't aim too highly on the kickstarter, even with all the will in the world you aren't going to be breaking any records, you guys probably know that. Good luck Ilya.
-
It depends on the version but I think this version has positions flanking the rear, kind of at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions.
-
I think a fully crewed C-130H complete with navigator and flight engineer would be great. I have a mate who's a C-130H nav and he'd be all over it.

WW II stuff to DCS World by Beczl
Paradox replied to sokolus's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I hope that one day your WWII vehicles + the Flying Legends series of aircraft + the RRG content can put a firm end to the opinion that some people have or had that the P-51D doesn't make sense in the DCS environment. -
The MiG-29 is possibly the greatest example of an exhaust resembling a giant gooey black plume. I love it.
-
That might be a good point yeah.
