Great thanks that’s good to know

would it be possible to reduce the effect of these reflections in the sight glass on the hind. They are much more prominent in VR.
-
Agreed.

thought I had solved the problem on this by putting terrain textures to low. Flew for 20 or so mins with no issues then flying low over water as soon as I go below 800ft frames go from 45 to 22 with stuttering

I agree, when the falklands map as I’m pretty sure it was described as was first being developed, we all had falklands war scenarios in our minds, and why wouldn’t we. It’s one of the most recent air wars resulting in a number of air to air engagements and a large number of shoot downs involving both air to air and surface to air weapons. I thought that was the whole point of it. So to hear that the FRS1 wasn’t being developed puts a kind of what’s the point sort of feeling on this map, particularly after developing all the naval assets invincible class etc. Maybe I’m speaking a bit out of turn, it could be many people that live in that region are really enjoying this map and if that’s the case good for them, I do have a particular love for the Sea Harrier FRS1 so maybe there is a little bias there, but it was the most significant aircraft of the Falklands war shot down over 20 aircraft and I just think surely they should have researched this more to ensure they could develop it before creating this map.

VR perspective. The main issue I find with the SA map is its VR performance around built up areas. It also doesn’t work at low level atm but this is a well reported issue and I believe it must be something that can be fixed as it happens after a period of time. I don’t like the look of the buildings they look unrealistic, I’m not sure if it’s the colours? Can’t say for sure but I’m just being honest, i don’t often moan about Razbams work, I’m a big fan of them. The 3 best maps in my opinion in terms of performance and how they look, and it’s my opinion! Are Caucasus with the Barthek mod, and the better darker trees mod, The Normandy map, I do use a darker Normandy mod. and the Nevada map. therefore I have voted for synthetic, but I will say at high altitude over mountains on the SA map it does look beautiful.

So please someone explain to me who understands this better. There is a licensing issue to have a high fidelity module that resembles a sea harrier frs1 and it therefore is forbidden to release in dcs? Or it’s possible to release the sea harrier if systems such as the radar are not 100% authentic and accurate? I remember MicroProse releasing dogfight in the 90s and there was a sea harrier. Graphics were by today’s standards extremely primitive but it was clearly a sea harrier, for its time the graphics were good, it was a grey harrier with a black pointy end and roundels it was clearly a sea harrier so they were allowed to produce that in dogfight and It had a functional radar. Now I accept that whatever Razbam do is going to be far more accurate than the microprose frs1 from the mid 90s. I’m just asking why was it acceptable then but not now? And if it’s a case of lack of data would it not be acceptable for Razbam to use some creative license, I’m sure they have some extremely intelligent people working for them could they not fill in the missing gaps with creative license? I genuinely do not understand the situation fully as to why this module cannot be released so would welcome it if someone could explain clearly, if someone from Razbam could explain that would be fantastic.

F-4E Phantom Development Report - DCS Newsletter 31/03/2023

Phantoms with the shark mouths look really cool. -
Was never added for the Mig, are you thinking of adding it to the Corsair?

It’s strange because I load a flight and sometimes it doesn’t do it for a good 5-10 minutes it’s all running fine. Then it starts. So it shows it can run smoothly, there must be something that triggers it I guess. Let’s hope they look into this and can find a solution soon.

extremely strange gameplay where I can fly in VR with 45 fps in the harrier zero stutters extremely smooth. Low level, high altitude. Then all of a sudden I find FPS drop into the 20s, not flying over any built up areas, just low level. Sim is like a slide show, but if I climb above 1,300ft stutters stop, solid 45fps and smooth gameplay. Drop below 1,300ft and then severe stuttering.
-
Ok that’s a shame as it does work for me but I have read that for some users it does not work for them.
-
Seems to work if you load the mission twice not sure if you’re aware but yes it’s time it was fixed. Has anyone noticed an improvement in south Atlantic map with VR? Won’t get to my computer for a few days.

Thanks so much.

It’s awesome and I’m playing DCS so much at the moment, so pleased with the visual and performance improvements I have experienced with VR. But I have one minor wish that I would love ED to look into to just make things perfect. The new upscaling has made the anti aliasing better in VR imo but I notice only around the canopy edges they look a little rough and jagged, but only around the canopies. This is with virtually all aircraft, with maybe the exception of the F14 which I don’t notice it with. it’s particularly noticeable with the P-47 and even has a sort of wobbly defect the hovers above the canopy. It’s a minor issue and certainly isn’t taking away from my enjoyment of 2.9. Really would be nice if they could look into it though.

does anybody have a link to a tutorial to show exactly how you set up and link a drawing tablet to this and dcs to use in VR? I watched a vid and the guy said he is using a drawing pad with a stylus pen.

I’m noticing that I am having to restart my pc because dcs OB won’t load in VR. Screen just stays stuck at the loading stage on the monitor and steam VR stays on in the headset. Eventually dcs loads but in full screen not in VR. I have to restart my pc reload dcs mt and then it has been loading the 2nd time after a pc restart. Is anyone else experiencing this.

not for me it’s a huge improvement. Across the board with all modules I’m able to run with rain in VR now. Before it was unplayable. Visually it’s an improvement externally with regards anti-aliasing, maybe inside the cockpit readability is slightly worse with some modules. Spitfire cockpit for example. But regards the F14 the cockpit is much clearer now, I’m able to read labelling in the cockpit without mods, feel like this is more like the experience people using monitors get. Also feel there is far less shimmer with the new anti aliasing options. personally I feel it’s a huge improvement.

I am noticing a huge improvement with HBs F14 with VR in 2.9 MT both in terms of performance and visual quality/clarity, notably less shimmering and jaggedy lines in the cockpit. Feel like this is always how it was meant to look in VR. Thankyou ED and HB team.

Yeah I know. I didn’t say there was a problem with them and 2.9

Please could you consider an option to have VR only load when you are in the cockpit of an aircraft. There are other games that do it Assetto Corsa for example so I think it could be achievable. And it would make it so much easier to use the Mission Editor. I know I could go into the settings and unselect VR then reload the game and go in the ME, but I like to try things I am creating as I go along. I would really appreciate this feature, I’m not sure if any other VR users feel the same?

Has anyone else noticed that you can add weather now in VR and it’s playable. It maintains a steady 45fps and stays smooth. I normally don’t run mods in my open beta but I love the new Bartek Caucasus mod so much and I wanted to try it in 2.9 because of the improvements and this is like a brand new game for me I’ve never know a DCS update to make such a difference before I highly recommend people try this along with the taz 1004 better trees V3 mod and they work so well together, it looks unbelievable, looks so convincing flying low it’s like I could see the moisture hanging round the trees between the mountains I am blown away now by this update. I think the last time I flew with weather and rain effects was Flaming Cliffs days. Thank you so much ED.

When we had the opportunity to send some feedback to ED not long back I expressed my concerns with VR and how I feel it has been neglected. This update has improved the situation with VR, the upscale options have given me a notable visual improvement whilst continuing to maintain 45fps and smooth VR gameplay. I am still playing around to fine tune my settings but tried the Spitfire on the Normandy map last night and all I can say is it beautiful. Sinai was running smoothly as well. However despite an improvement with the North Atlantic map, and I noticed in the update the the built up areas have received some optimisation, there is still warping stuttering and strange effects when looking over buildings and it is in my view still unplayable. I will continue to see what settings can be changed but unfortunately that means having different settings applied depending on the map you are using. I have noticed that if you make changes to graphics in the settings despite it saying no game restart is needed you do need to restart dcs or performance is poor. I am still getting a lot of steam VR crashes with OB that I don’t tend to get with normal DCS. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing that? To think we could have further improvements with Vulkan being implemented, things are heading in the right direction. I shall stick with my 3080 for now and not invest in a costly upgrade.

Thankyou for the advice I shall have a look at your links
