What is the name of this maneuver at 06:59?
Stubbies2003 replied to oldtimesake's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
Yeah the pilot was obviously trying to force an overshoot on the MiG but that is a hella high risk move as any good pilot will take advantage of that slow speed for a gun shot. Agreed the only reason that guy lived is low level AI opponent. Don't try that on a PVP server. They will eat your lunch with you just hanging in the sky like that dude was. -
While it is true I've never seen an 16 A-G bird without wing tanks on 4/6 it is absolutely not true that the 16 is only wired for wing tanks on 4/6.
-
Infantry would be either but against anything armored you will want SAPHEI. Even then don't think you will be taking out MBTs with that. Just lightly armored vehicles up to BMP/APC etc. HE only rounds are annoyingly bad at strafing anything with armor at all.

Differing high G behaviour in BFM, Hornet & Viper
Stubbies2003 replied to markturner1960's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Total agreement there. WAY too easy to black out in DCS. I got three incentive flights in the 16 and we hit 9g on the first two rides (third one the aircraft broke before we got to that point) and even being the newbie maintainer in the back seat I never even lost color vision. As long as you do the proper g strain maneuver most people would be fine. Now breathing on the other hand was another issue all together at 9g. Apparently you needed to go through some kind of training to use the positive pressure breathing gear and they weren't going to bother with that for incentive flights so we didn't have that going for us. -
Just a suggestion then I'd re-work it as you don't seem to be "just asking" the devs...

I haven't seen any technical answer given as to the why but I am not sure if they know the why of it. I fly on live side in VR and almost exclusively in the 18. I don't have one of the problematic drivers and I always have the SA page open at the 40 mile range. I don't notice any loss of performance by having the SA page up.

Do you think complaining about it is somehow going to make it appear faster? Or is the goal here to get them to stop talking about it so they get to see less posts like these?
-
More correctly he was in missile override via the switch so pushing the AG master mode button shouldn't do anything at all when in Dogfight or in missile override mode. The bug is in it actually going to A-G mode and layering the MRM and AG modes at the same time. The correct behavior would be no AG mode at all in that case and no bomb drop but a missile shoot.

It doesn't say reported since the problem isn't on their end and they cannot fix a NVidia driver. NVidia must fix that hence driver issue. They can contact NVidia and tell them there is a problem but that is as close as they are going to get to fixing it. So the choice is yours to make. You go by your preferred method of most recent driver and live with the FPS drop or you prefer to not lose FPS and back track on the driver. Until NVidia fixes the problem.

[W.I.P]ALE-47 Should Not Require Master Arm
Stubbies2003 replied to FightsOn's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just chiming in to verify that the F-16 does not require Master Arm on to use the ALE-47 system. That doesn't mean with any certainty on the F/A-18 that it isn't required but it doesn't make much sense for it to be required. -
Well that is one bit of it. The F mav needs to be uncaged and locked onto a target and within range to give a ready indication. If you don't see the extra cross in relation to the keyhole when maneuvering the aircraft that is another indication it isn't locked onto a target.
-
T-55 isn't too much for the GAU-12. There are testing videos on youtube taking those out from the Harrier with the GAU-12.
-
OK forgive if this is too simple but you are uncaging and locking the Mav to a target prior to looking for the ready?
-
Yeah at the speed they leave the aircraft at you would have to get WAY too close to the ground on a strafing run to catch up to and run into your own bullets. Only way this can happen without ricochet now is in air to air gun work. Then yes this is a distinct possibility. Basically what you are seeing here is someone the brass likes/good pilot that they do not want to put a bad mark onto his record. Have seen other ridiculous scenarios laid out to cover a pilots read end whom they don't want to lose.
-
Odd. I just flew on OB again yesterday and specifically tested out the MavF for another reason and both live side and OB behave identically for me. I always start the timing right after the reload is finished and I never bother to wait for them to be done prior to take off and I don't have issues with them. I know a fair number of times that they weren't done as I can go A-G mode after take off and bring up the IMav page from the SMS page and see what remains of the timer.

I can't say for certain but when I was in the USAF they were labelled as AIM-9L/M so I wouldn't be surprised if the jet lumped them together. Now if you saw the same between a L or M and an X or a P yes that would be an issue.

Well, at least I caught the right wire
Stubbies2003 replied to Diesel_Thunder's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The LRLLS of the super carrier will help out with line up quite a bit. One of many reasons I'm looking forward to it. :) -
Well the kicker for your success is TARGET itself. Greyman is correct if you are not using TARGET but programming the throttle directly in DCS as the center position is not a switch position. Easily verified thru Windows game controller management. TARGET by virtue of how it worls will allow you to program all.
-
Good read indeed. The one bit where I can agree regardless of the certainty of outcome would be the release as the front part of the ship went down. Since DCS doesn't come even close to simulating that I cannot say how hairy that would be.
-
Ah well I am the same. DCS only for my VR stuffs so perhaps it is just I don't have everything mapped to the HOTAS and I just used the left hand controller to do whatever in pit wasn't configured to the HOTAS. I started with the Rift S and bought the Reverb later so I noticed the hand controller difference pretty quick when testing the Reverb in DCS. I tried the don't use hand controller use mouse bit but the only time I found that to be better is on any control that had to be right clicked and HELD in that position as the controllers kinda suck for that.
-
One other goofy thing I noticed is the Reverb doesn't have the main menu associated with one of the controller buttons right off the bat. I'm sure there is a way to set it up but no clue why this wasn't already done like on the Rift S. Speaking of the hand controllers I find them easier to work with on Rift S than the rather large Reverb ones. Especially for upside down right clicks. Last bit I've noticed as a difference between the two is that the Reverb cable to the PC isn't as nice for moving around as the Rift S one is. This big time. Flying via TrackIR is disappointing after you have seen the goodness that is VR.

I didn't edit anything about this statement thanks. No different than when the USAF wasn't a separate service but was a sub set of the Army. You just choose to act like using the term "service" is completely wrong and "department" is correct. Fine I don't care about the semantics of it. We both understand what it meant. You chose to interpret it differently. With a snide remark about how this difference of interpretation made you "right" and me "wrong" so yeah whatever. Your opinion and you are entitled to it.

I fly the hornet live side quite a bit and there are only a few situations where I see this but never without explanation. 1. If you try to use RWS LTWS and your width and bar settings are too high it will fail to maintain lock. Easily duplicated. Set the FCR to 40 wide and 4 bar. You will be able to maintain lock IF you manage antenna elevation fine. Now bump your bars from 4 to 6. You will see the FCR fail to maintain soft lock at that setting. 2. Directly related to what people have talked about above in that you must manage the antenna elevation on soft lock targets like TWS/RWS LTWS. If the target gets outside of the radar beam you will lost the lock. 3. Only time I've ever seen the FCR have issues from STT is when the target notches the radar or if the target is 25nm or greater.
-
Well if you are going to ask to get then since the EF-2000 is incoming I'm not sure why we wouldn't ask for an E model.
-
Yeah at what point did I say they were subordinate to the Navy? I said they were a sub set of the Navy. If you want to pick nits then sure department. That doesn't address the whole point that was being discussed in the first place.
