Never had an engine fire with speed brakes on... And I always land with speed brakes on.
My guess is you have the bird strike option set too high in the gameplay menu.
Simple question but I can't find anything on the subject.
Is it possible to set the pinkie switch as an in-game modifier without using SST?
I can set it as a modifier in the controls option but the game doesn't seem to recognize it when its pressed.
Personally, I only fly western planes/helicopters lately because I prefer their avionics and cockpits in general. I always feel lost in Russian cockpits.
That being said, I always respected Russian hardware for their reliability and durability. I might look into the Mi-8 once it comes out... could be interesting.
EDIT: Good one Boris
I've been experimenting a bit more with my modded pedals. Once I got use to them, its actually not bad. It lacks the opposite movement of the opposing pedal but its not bad.
Of course, it doesn't beat real rudder pedals but it'll do until i can afford some.
You can raise the collective as soon as you feel the very first signs of entering VRS. If you're fast enough, you can get away with it.
If not the only way is to pitch forward (or any direction for that matter) to exit the unstable air as soon as possible.
You can also land vertically but you have to keep your vertical velocity above -500 ft/min if I remember correctly.
I was trying to figure out the permit crash rcvr option online with a friend earlier but there didn't seem to have any option to respawn.
I then tried in a solo mission and even then I couldn't respawn a plane. Any thoughts on how to use this option?
Pardon me if I'm late to the party but if I may add my opinion: I think the vibrations are just a little too intense... Not from a realism point of view (no personal experience with the Huey) but strictly in terms of gameplay. I find it hard to keep my focus on landing when it seems I'm getting my teeth rattled out once i come out of ETL. Hopefully it will be toned down just a tad on release (or perhaps before.)
Agreed.
From what I gathered so far, the Saitek Pro Flight rudders seem like the best option out there. Thing is, they're not cheap. Actually, it seems there are no cheap pedals on the market, at all.
I thought it might be interesting to start a Huey movie thread. Post your favorite movies with Huey scenes.
I'll start: I recently saw We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson. The movie is set around the battle for LZ X-Ray so it wasn't lacking in Huey scenes.
Some of them, however, warn't terribly realistic (although watching the pilot use the Force Trim button to fire the guns was quite funny.)
And Mel Gibson is great as usual.
After trying both the twist axis and my modded pedals, I can definitely say the twist axis is better. The metal plates help with comfort but still isn't wide enough. I guess I'll make due with the twist axis until I can afford the pedals. Luckily the mod I did to the pedals is reversible.
