  1. Thanks for the info  I wasn't aware of the change. I wonder why they kept fitting the mast in production 3 years down the line if it has no operational purpose any more? did the mast have any additional use other than the HF aerial? Nice pic there too btw.......
  2. Thanks for your answer, much appreciated. I agree, makes much more sense to wait and have a simultaneous roll out of the new DM for all 4 fighters, that way no unfair advantages on either side.
  3. Great news......... Very much looking forward to the new damage model. One question Racoon if I may, will the Spitfire have the new component model on release or will that come at a later date and at the same time as the rest of the WWII fleet? Lots to look forward to on the DCS WWII front then.......awesome news. These little updates and snippets of info keep us going, many thanks for sharing what you can with us
  4. wow..........:shocking: :worthy:
  5. Well, I'm no expert in the exact differences between the different Mk Spitfire's, but wasn't it possible it had an HF aerial fitted when new and this has been removed at some point? When I was in the RAF the BBMF Lancaster flew into RAF St Athan where I was at the time and they asked for volunteers to give their guys a hand to remove the engines, and I was one of the fortunate few to get picked :D It was having a main spar change and a specialist team were going to do it. Anyway we got to climb all over her and I remember someone from BBMF telling me everything was original on it at the time except there was a transponder installed behind the original radio, the one with the big dial in the radio ops position, and it had a small white aerial near the mid upper turret. This was required for current legislation. Just one example how some of these old beauties were changed to allow them to fly in modern skies.
  6. Good news! a sure sign things are moving in the right direction. I'm extremely stoked for this map, it's gonna be awesome to climb in the Spitfire or Bf109 and go for a spin on this map. Keep up the great work Racoon
  7. "Four weeks" and I'll take two (Spitfires that is!) :P :D
  8. +1......same here. It's been a while now, and were all chomping at the proverbial bit waiting for some news or an update on progress :)
  9. Must be referring to DCS next big release F5 Tiger II :D I wonder how they will handle the Spitfire's release easter Egg? !
  10. Yup, looks like others have it too, see this thread here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2834416#post2834416
  11. So far I've only flown the Bf109 on the VA server with today's update so not sure on other modules but it's working fine for me. There was a restriction when looking back when flying the beta 1.5.4 pre today's update (I assume this was due to the head position bug), but in the stable 1.5.4 all is back to normal and I havent noticed any trackir issues so far.
  12. If you have the space on your disk you can have both stable and beta. I have all three as separate installs, stable, beta and alpha (which includes the NTTR map).
  13. The updates are only on the 1.5.4 Beta release at the moment, but hopefully it will be moved to the release version this week with luck. I don't think the NTTR has seen any updates since the Gazelle released weeks ago, so none of the other modules would have been updated since then either and a lot has happened since the Gazelle released!. I love the detail on the NTTR map but I haven't flown on it for a while now because of the lack of updates it has received. Hopefully when 2.5 surfaces and we have both maps on one single install the updates will be better and easier to organise for ED. As for your other questions, I'm not sure about the cold and dark issue but I did read on the forums somewhere that tracks play back now works in 1.5.4 (sorry I cant remember the thread or post now otherwise I would link it for you).
  14. Live stream introducing the DCS Spitfire IX would be lovely :D
  15. It's working now, nice pic Harry  Where was this taken, do you know?
  16. Interesting proposition. For me though I would like to see some "no balls" sites on the map.....the V1 launch sites, how good would it be if they were active and launching buzz bombs accross the channel for players to intercept and topple or shoot down. They would make great ground attack targets, stiff with flak. Rail marshaling yards, supply depots, moving supply trains etc. That way ground attack and air combat could be added in same mission. I wonder if the map will be post or pre 6th June 1944 or both? Looking forward to more info emerging soon hopefully. Big thanks to Racoon for keeping the dream alive
  17. Great photo klem, thanks for posting it. Its news day today so fingers crossed we may get a Spitfire IX update later with some new screenies, maybe even a pre order option followed by a release in two weeks! :D Well, one can dream.....:music_whistling:
  18. Beautiful......love the shadow effects on the trees. Looking forward to this map with a passion!
  19. Yup, here's hoping for some news on it soon. Meanwhile I came across this gem....... http://www.globalaviationresource.com/v2/2016/03/14/the-old-flying-machine-company-pt-2-from-the-cockpit-spitfire-mk-ix-mh434/ It's an awsome read, sure got me in the mood for a Spitfire release in "two weeks"!!! :D
  20. Well for what it's worth I chose the Agree option. I would love to see a fully fleshed out WW2 DCS on the Normandy map. BTW is it ED that's doing the map or as I think I read somewhere a 3rd party? I remember Racoon I think it was mention he hopes the Normandy map could be done before the end of 2016, but we gotta see 2.5 and the merge first I would think.
  21. I see the 109 has gained a long awaited pilot model in the latest update (24-6-16) nice touch there ED, thanks  It's been a while since the 109 has had a little attention. Anyone else notice any other changes on the 109? as it wasn't mentioned at all in the change log.
  22. Great stream Matt.....thanks buddy. Looking forward to the next one.
  23. IRL it was designed as a Close Air Support aircraft. RAFG Harrier force used to deploy to field locations when on exercise, operate out of hides and use roads as runways for T/O, landing on either the "runway" or a pad in a field. Sea Harriers were used primarily for fleet air defence, then later when the GR6/9's were deployed to the ships they did both ground attack and air defence roles. It's a very unique and versatile aircraft. I spent 4 years working on the Sea Harrier FRS1, deep strip and overhaul........got some great photo's!......happy days. In DCS I'm not sure. With the Normandy map ED are planning to implement the use of temporary airfields for mission makers so I guess we could simulate the forward air ops quite well here, but on say the VA server....... I guess hovering over parked aircraft for the sheer fun of it would suffice :D
